Henri was a wonderful host. We attended a business dinner there and were pleasantly surprised by ALL aspects of our experience. I highly recommend.
It is an excellent restaraunt in a very sketchy area
Came during summerlicious. Big portions, tasted great, good service, best value for your money! The only thing that bugged me was that a glass of wine was $11...
Excellent food and service. Our server paid special attention to us but wasn’t overbearing. Highly recommend.
Very friendly staff and I had some of the tastiest dishes I have ever had.
Excellent meal at affordable Summerlicious prices; good-sized portions; very attentive service. My only concern was that service seemed rushed; from the time we arrived to the time we left was only an hour for a 3-course meal, and we were not asked if we wanted coffee or tea with dessert. We would have liked to have lingered a bit longer! Hope to return to this fine restaurant.
This was my second time having dinner at Aiolio. My first experience was much better than my second. The chef/owner greeted us (group of 4 ladies) at the door the first time, but not the second (my husband and myself); perhaps our entry into the restaurant wasn't good timing for him to get away which I could understand. It was surprising that there was only one type of red wine and one type of white wine offered but fortunately both wines were suitable to their Summerlicious menu options. I think it might be a good idea to have one glass of (their selected) wine included in the pricing if only one type is offered and have the customer pay for additional glasses of either the same or something they would prefer. We were somewhat disappointed with both the main dishes we selected but the appetizers and desserts were quite nice. We really enjoy the vibe of the restaurant and not having to go downtown for a night out is a bonus.
We enjoyed the meals, and the service was good. We would go again.
The staff are curt and uninformative. I asked for a wine list, they denied having one but would tell us what they had. (Which, apparently was a red and a white wine.)
The menu was equally uninformative. Porc en brochette is skewered pork. No where did it mention it was covered in mushrooms; something my husband can’t eat. They did bring him it with no mushroom sauce, but it left us eating separately. Not overly romantic.
Later, I discovered they do have a wine menu online. I don’t think customers should have to go online whilst in a restaurant for such a simple thing.
The vegetables were hot but raw, except for my husband’s mashed sweet potatoes that had the consistency of baby food. The duck was good; crisp outside, tender inside. The pork also was cooked nicely. The restaurant was pleasantly decorated, though a little odd walking through bed sheets to enter.
It’s sad, as this could be a nice place to eat. Mostly it was the staff’s snotty attitude and the lack of basic restaurant communication. People want to know what they’re ordering, and be able to peruse the wine list without going online.
I went with my parents and I will come back with my husband 🥰
At first the server was quite accommodating to our requests for clarification about the menu. Towards the end of the meal, unfortunately, the server's attitude had a condescending note. Furthermore, we detected an unpleasant odour in the restaurant itself which made us wonder about the level of cleanliness in the restaurant.
It is our favourite local restaurant! We highly recommend it.
Always a great experience in dining.
Perfect spot for a wonderful meal, friendly service and great price!
The two servers were very pleasant and knowledgeable and attentive.
We started with the house salad with berries, the dressing tasted like pure honey drizzled on mixed greens and was more suited as a dessert course.
We then ordered the lamb shank and duck leg for our dinners, the two most expensive dinners on the menu. Both meals were disappointing and lacking flavour. The lamb was bland and drowning in a watery sauce and the duck was dry and under seasoned.
Our dessert choices were a crepe with fruit, which was no doubt a store bought crepe and again lacking in flavour, and a creme brulee which was a heavy and grainy texture.
We ordered a bottle of Ripasso that was also disappointing, very tart and light.
In all we spent over $150 for a dinner for two and left the restaurant feeling very disappointed. The only item that we enjoyed was a baguette with an olive and caper spread.
We will not return.
The server was friendly, very knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. The menu is not large but this allows the chef to do an excellent job!
Incredible hidden gem in the GTA. How many restaurants have you been to where the chef comes out to tell you about the various delicious dishes he's prepared and helps you make a selection based on your individual tastes and preferences along with an appropriate wine pairing? Ambiance takes you back to France or Italy. Service was impeccable. Food was decadent. Wine pairing perfect. Highly recommend.
My friend and I had dinner at this cosy little restaurant on a Friday night. Our table was tucked into a quiet corner and our server quickly ensured that we were comfortable. I ordered the duck confit and my friend ordered the braised lamb shank. Both dishes were delicious and served hot to the table. We both had the dark chocolate pot de creme dessert, a lovely, dense, melt in your mouth treat for any chocolate lover.
Chef Henri, we will return!!
Great atmosphere! The Owner is pleasant He makes a point of speaking to the guests assuring you are enjoying your meal. We certainly will return.
The staff were quick, accommodating, knowledgeable and pleasant. The water was cold. The food was hot. And it was all decently priced. The only thing was the bread was a tad stale, but honestly, everything else made up for it that I don’t even care.
It was great to have time with a friend at a really nice restaurant in Scarborough and not have to travel downtown. Top notch leek and potato soup, duck and lamb, and creme brûlée's and chocolate pot a creme. It was my second time and I was not disappointed.
We really liked the service and the roomy table for 6. We were there for winterlicious so our choices were limited. Everyone enjoyed the food. Our requests for extras like olive oil for bread dip, Parmesan cheese to add to the soup and extra bread were met promptly. Our only complaints were that the soup really lacked salt and flavour and the carrots with the lamb shank were still very hard. I certainly didn’t expect such big portions for the winter delicious menu. We all left full and happy. I will go again to try the regular menu.
Soup and cassoulet flavours were bland. More herbs necessary. The aioli with baguette had the most taste on the menu
Disappointing, unfortunately. The food was flavourless. Hard to imagine how it could be so tasteless. Not even the desserts were any good. Pity. Being a French restaurant, I really wanted to add it to my go-to list of restaurants.
The food was very disappointing.
The potato leek soup was very watery and did not taste at all.
Salmon was o.k., a bit overdone.
Mashed potatoes were missing salt.
What happened to the taste buds of your chef?
Crème brûlée, more a pudding.
Good food, attentive service a great local spot for a quiet good quality meal.
We have eaten at Aioli a number of times and have never been disappointed. Recently we thoroughly enjoyed the New Year’s Eve dinner as it was wonderful. The salmon tartar on a bed of avocado mousse was especially delightful.
