Great food - Great service - you get Sicily without the long flight and the hassle at the airports
Best food I have had on a long time. The Lamb melted of the bone. The appetizers wonderful. The squid ink was the best ever. Great selection of wines
Excellent place with great food and wonderful atmosphere. The owner made a point of stopping to visit with our table. Great experience!
We had a graduation dinner party for a large group last week. Angelo the owner was exceptional from the minute we walked in the door. The food was exceptional and my husband is from Italy! The service was also excellent and portions were big and served hot and at the right pace. We are very happy we found this place. The absolute best Italian food in Berkeley!! Thank you again for a great night!
You are now my favorite restaurant and that’s saying a lot since I love restaurants
You will be seeing a lot of us!!
I made the reservation for Mother's Day because I enjoyed the take-out food I had a month ago. The food is good, but the service very unexceptional. They brought the wrong dish to someone in my party and we had to ask for our wine after the food was brought out.
If you want authentic Sicilian food at a reasonable price in a friendly atmosphere, Agrodolce is for you!
Service? Hardly any. Music was very loud. Couldn’t hear across the table. Food was great but hardly any pasta in the pasta dish. Lots of sauce though
The food was reasonably good but the restaurant is totally disorganized. The five of us had a reservation at 7 pm but was not seated until 740pm. Then it took another 30 minutes before the waiter took our order. The space was also tight and the table we had did not have much room. The waiters kept bumping into our table as they walked by. Horrible experience!
Obviously they had service issues but many of those could have been rectified if they set the tables appropriately. The owner/manager was frazzled and causing a stir. The chef obviously is very talented but not a place to relax. Looked at this restaurant many times but probably won’t be back. Sorry...
This a nice place for pasta. They have more creative dishes. They have a decent sized regular menu plus a big specials menu. Lots of appetizers and salads as well. Great bread with dipping sauce. You don’t have to get pasta either, the lamb shank special was excellent. Nice cocktail menu and wines too. Friendly service. Will be back.
Great local spot! Delicious food cozy ambiance and friendly staff.
Terrific risotto, both the regular one and the special of the day. So tasty! Thank you!
I liked the variety of the menu and the decor is nice (brick walls, great photos). In terms of food, appetizers were good. We liked the bruschetta with fava beans very much but were charged $30 for 5 pieces of bruschetta. Whoa! The fish was well-cooked, and the ravioli were outstanding. My pasta dish (Pappardelle) was drowning in sauce but nonetheless tasty. Service was uneven. Attentive at first but then a main entree was served at the same time as the first plates. Coffee, requested for the end, was served before the desserts. So a bit ragged. Menu says that tip is included for parties of 6 or more. We were 5, but tip was included (at 22%). When we questioned the tipping, the manager politely and quickly recalculated the bill. Too many hiccups like this made me unlikely to recommend to others.
Really lovely food, ok but somewhat distant service, music didn’t quite fit the beautiful dining room, excellent wine list and very good menu choices. Overall very happy with this first visit to the restaurant.
We had dinner on 4/20/19 and the place was packed! Only 3 staff workers were on duty to host, bus and serve. I admired their stamina, professionalism and dedication because they were under a lot of pressure and the management/owner should be proud of them and reward them. I simply hope than being under staffed Saturday night was just an unfortunate situation. I wouldn't want the restaurant to loose its business because of that. Great food great vibe and deserving staff. We will be back!
Man I just love the food, both here and at Trattoria Siciliana, the sister (original) restaurant in the Elmwood. Everything is fantastic, from the simplest to the most complex preparations. And the family style menu for groups is terrific. And so. much. good. food. But! Do not come here unless you have a bunch of time to spend. Even with a reservation, you can spend 20 minutes in line waiting to check in, and then your table may or may not be ready, and then it might take a while for someone to take your order ... but they are just as nice as they can be. And did I mention how amazing the food is?
This place is fantastic! Highly recommended!!! The owner is wonderful and service is great. A very special place!
Food was great. Salads could use a bit more finesse but the paparrdelli with sugu was wonderful along with the pork and swordfish which was was delicious. Wait staff rushed and didn’t follow up once food was served but we’ll definitely be back.
The food is incredible. However, the service was slower than expected. It seemed as if the wait staff was understaffed and/or training, which delayed nearly all aspect of my meal. However, the food was worth every moment of waiting. The kitchen manager was extremely helpful and personable.
No idea why you have to make a reservation. Stood in line for 1 hour along with 3 other groups of 4 who all had a reservation at 7. We were finally seated at 8. Ordered standard dishes along with a bruschetta appetizer. 3 pieces of toast with some fava bean spread showed up at 8:45. When our main course arrived one of our dishes (Porcini Ravioli) was missing. Chef came out to apologize and said that he had mistaken the sugar for the salt and that they were remaking the dish now (ridiculous lie since both ravioli and sauce are made ahead of time). Chicken was dry and pasta was average.
Wonderful, authentic Sicilian food....whether the cream sauce, the red sauce, the oil/vinegar dressings, they were all perfect and subtle. Loved this place, largely patronized by a lot of locals. The only negative is that we could not figure out our bill!! But there were 8 of us, so it gets complicated! Will go again with 2-4 people!
it was a rather charming trattoria style restaurant-- interesting menu choices outside of Sicily
The owner makes you feel like part of the family
Our food took quite awhile to arrive and one appetizer never did. When brought to their attention we were not charged but otherwise the wait staff didn’t seem too concerned. The ravioli was good although it was swimming in cream on the wrong size plate. I went to the restroom after finishing my entree. A little wait in line didn’t bother me but I was surprised to find my empty dish still at my table. I wanted to like this restaurant and hopefully a second chance won’t be as disappointing.
Every time we visit Berkeley, dinner at Agrodolce is a must. Food is outstanding and original. Service is welcoming.
The food is really flavorful and the service was very attentive.
Wine list is great as it includes excellent wines from Sicily which otherwise are hard to come by - some very good wines are even sold by glass. This is generous.
Excellent olive oil comes with bread in advance of the ordered courses.
Food: Appertizer, octopus, in traditional Italian style: thinly shaved, marinated and on top of salad, not much flavor, octopus could have been fresher.
Main course: Involtini, excellent, meat tender, filling rich in flavor, served along with thin cut baked(?) potatoes with tomato paste which was nearly outstanding, fresh, nicely seasoned without covering the taste of tomato. Some people may find this dish (secondo piatto) somewhat little. It is recommended to take a primo piatto (pasta).
Understaffed. Took almost 30 minutes to order a drink. When we ordered food, it was a rush job. Seems like if you know the proprietors they give you special treatment. Otherwise, it almost felt like we were imposing on them. Food was okay and overpriced. Encountering one of the owners in a ridiculously tight t-shirt smoking out front was also a turn-off, especially when we he finally came to the table to belatedly take our drink order smelling like cigarettes. It was my last time there.
Sullen waiter seemed pretty disinterested in our party of four, disinterested in the menu, and uneducated about the wine selections.
The food preparation was uneven. Pasta ragu dish was very good and very (temperature) hot, which was nice. Generous salad had obviously been made and dressed hours before. Smelt appetizer was cold, unbattered and soggy when (I thought) it was meant to be crispy-fried and hot.
Bread pudding dessert was delicious and as piping hot as the smelt might have been.
Barman seemed genuinely nice and engaging when he took dessert orders and delivered them.
You wanted honesty, so I was. I am 1/2 Sicilian, love the cuisine and would like to return but don’t know if we will because of the hit and miss nature of food and experience.
A friendly bustling place. A nice break from the more refined atmosphere of many of the better Berkeley restaurants. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Good value with prices for entres from $16-20. Fun.
Appetizers were okay - not great. Entrees were good, however, service was extremely poor, disjointed and slow with excessively long waits in between courses and no communication regarding the delay from our waitperson. When we finally asked about our entrees, we were told that the risotto we ordered needed 25 minutes to prepare - however, this was at least an hour after our orders were taken. For dessert, one of our group ordered the panna cotta with raspberries and the raspberries were inedible. The wait person even took a taste and agreed that they were off. He took the dish away and when he brought a replacement, it was on the same plate as the original which had just been scraped off. Our dinner lasted three hours with most of the time being spent just waiting between courses. Service and communication need definite improvement.
Everything was perfect. The only thing I would have them work on is to bring out both persons dinner at the same time. My husbands dinner arrived 10 minutes before mine.
the food was very good this our 5th time going there.
we had reservation an we were early and we got seated right away there was4 of us.
I really enjoy going there the owner is very nice and oversee everything
Everything about our dinner was great. Delicious food, great service and delightful location! It was our first time here and we will definitely be back!
I had to send back my entree as it was stone cold. Our son's minestrone was lukewarm, but that didn't bother him. This seems to be a problem there. The last time we went, I had to send back my minestrone
because it was cold. Food tastes best when it comes hot to the table, in my opinion.
it was a great meal in a charming place
Great Food, Great Service, and the Owner is always warm and welcoming.
Noisy. We reserved a table for 5, were seated at a large table in the center of the restaurant, had to share with others. Service was very slow, inattentive and business-like: no smiles, the waiter didn't take the time to say hello or inquire why we were here. We only got one menu for the whole table, had to go to the front to get more. Once the waiter came to take our order, it was with a "what do you want?" attitude, rather than "how can I help you?" I indicated in our OpenTable reservation that we were celebrating a birthday -- the wait staff never brought it up. The food was ok, lacked in creativity and love for detail.
Awesome food, great service and wonderful ambience. Thank you so much
