Amazing food, great service with personality and humor! Desserts also tremendous!
Worst experience I've had in quite a long time. No host to greet so had to wait 10 minute to even be acknowledged despite the fact I had a reservation. Bread and olive oil on shelf in open container right at entrance - super unsanitary. Squeezed 5 of us into a table of four. Atmosphere was chaotic with owner running around sweaty and disheveled. Food was lackluster with pasta overcooked and mushy. I would never go back and advise others to steer clear. Total waste of money
Absolutely horrible service. I heard every table complaining. We waited for so long to get drinks, plates, etc. We never got plates with our appetizer. The manager was running around telling tables about other tables being “high maintenance” and blaming his staff for the chaos. It was truly ridiculous and all came down to the managers behavior.
While the quality of their food is excellent, Agrodolce is by far the best in the Berkeley area. However, their waiter staff is inadequate. However, if you have many hours to spend over dinner, Agrodolce is the place to dine!
There were five of us, and we all found what we ordered very tasty. I loved my grilled swordfish steak with roasted potatoes & Swiss chard. And I enjoyed the Cefalu salad for a starter, as did our friends who shared theirs. Two of us ordered the chicken w/ mushrooms and enjoyed that. One of us liked his linguini with clam sauce (fresh clams in their shells). We shared a bottle of Cabernet. The food was brought promptly,
and various waiters cleared away the courses as we finished. No complaints about the service. The dining room was packed, so, unfortunately, it was very noisy. But we expected that.
Wonderful local restaurant. Very crowded with celebratory parties but the staff handled it all well. Food is great and plentiful. Good value. Friendly maitre de. Sicilian food.
The food is delicious and the wine list has a wonderful selection. The interior is cute and has a vintage vibe. The service is spotty and you have to wait awhile to receive your meal. The staff is friendly but seem overwhelmed. I think a few more servers would help.
Agrodolce is a lively Italian restaurant with a lot of unusual and delicious choices on the menu, many of them from southern Italy and not normally found on menus in the SF Bay Area.
I'd like to think we caught the restaurant on a bad night, but we had been warned not to go. The place was packed, and they claimed to be down one waiter, but one extra waiter could not have salvaged this experience. When we first walked in the door, the owner/manager made eye contact with us which was a positive sign. Unfortunately, as we got closer to him, he turned his attention to a waiter and berated him for 5 minutes while we just stood there speechless. Once he finished his tirade we decided we would just sit at the bar and get a cocktail and appetizers, as we weren't feeling that great about the place. My husband then noticed a giant bucket of oil sitting off to the side of us, which was lower than hip high and could have any number of things dropped into it from passersby. The oil was used for dipping your bread, and didn't taste bad once we got over the fact that we didn't know what was floating around in there. We thought we'd get our drink relatively quickly, as the bartender couldn't escape seeing us at the tiny bar. Unfortunately, the moment we sat down he walked out from behind the bar and started serving customers on the floor. He didn't come back for over 10 minutes, but the manager, who was about two feet away, just kept seating more and more people. Once he had seated at least 6-7 other parties, we finally got a glass of water and a waitress started making our drinks. The appetizers were okay, but we knew it was time to leave when a group young ladies walked in and suddenly they were being fawned over like nobody else in the restaurant existed. It's too bad, because I really wanted to like this place and prove my friend wrong. We paid our bill and finished our meal down the street at Corso, which is always a pleasure.
Understaffed but heard 2 staff were out sick
But always an issue
Meals we wanted had been sold out so we ordered other meals as always delicious
I adore this place and luv Angelo the owner
Will go back always
Staff only 2 waiters felt sorry 4Wally and Jacob
No bus staff
SERVICE! SERVICE! SERVICE! SERVICE! SERVICE! SERVICE!
One of our favorites!
I've been many times and anticipate going many more times.
Your food is great but you need more waiters. You could seat lots more people if your service was quicker. I've been many times to Agrodolce for the food but I know I have to set aside a long time for the waiters to take the order, bring the order, bring the dessert menu and the dessert, and then bring the check. At least 30-60 minutes is wasted asking for and waiting for our waiter.
We're always looking for a good pasta place near home and was excited to try Agrodolce. The food was okay, but the real issue is the coordination between the kitchen and wait staff. Dishes come out helter skelter, and you can see the frustration on the faces of the waiters. We got two entrees and then, several minutes later, the other two showed up. Kitchen choreography is tough, but Agrodolce needs to tighten things up in order to become a regular on our dining out list.
We love this restaurant. The food is delicious. The wine just right. The service is lovely.
You feel you have a bit of Sicily right here in Berkeley.
We had a wonderful evening.
We felt like we were at a restaurant in Italy! Loved all the brick and fireplace! Very cozy but never felt crowded! The food from-the appetizers to the salads to the entrees were all delicious, especially the swordfish, meatballs and seafood pasta! Next visit we will share deserts after our meal! Spectacular Italian wine selections!
Anniversary not acknowledged. Rushed out. Kept trying to take my plate before I was done. Very loud. No point person door service. Desert was uninspired (pear tart).
We arrived and were seated on time. The food was good BUT THE SERVICE WAS AWFUL. We had to wait for our server, food arrived hot and was good but after that we never saw our server again. The service was NOT worth tip of minimal %.
Base on the service I wouldn't NOT recommend this restaurant. Perhaps if one goes as soon as they open the doors, might be better but no guarantee.
I have eaten here before but tonight the eggplant melanzane was cold and tough. There was a shortage of flatware as well.
Wanted to like it; we love Sicily. Menu sounds great with many interesting choices. Execution not so great. My wife`s patsa alla Norma was good. My pasta with sardines and anchovies was a bit of a muddled mess. I had heartburn afterwards. Stuffed zucchini flowers, appitizer, was deep fried and would embarrass a Sicilian, as would the cannolo.
Good wine list, Sicilian and Italian. OK prices.
Service good. No Italians, but not their fault.
This is our third time to Agradolce and each time we've had a delicious meal. The menu is full of unique Sicilian dishes that you rarely see in most Italian restaurants.
Food was amazing and reasonably priced. Truly authentic Sicilian dishes. I have been to Sicily several times. Service was really bad. They were very polite but it was really slow. Took an hour to get 2 cold (they were supposed to be cold) appetizers. Owner did comp us two drinks for the wait.
The ambiance is great, food is really good. It was a busy day so service was a little bit slow but they were nice.
Agrodolce is the best Italian restaurant in Berkeley, by far, and one of the best anywhere we have eaten in the USA. The home-made pasta is delicious, the meatballs are superb, the ragu pork and bronzino are excellent, and the tiramisu is perfection the palate. The owner and his crew are very accomodatiing; the price is quite moderate. Go there and you will have a memorable dinner !
Terrific food, nice atmosphere, incredibly hard-working staff.
Excellent trattoria with wide range of tasty Sicilian food . We had ragu pork with home-made pasta and it was truly delicious . Tiramisu for dessert was the best we have had in years and was accompanied by complementary port . Server was friendly, noise level was quite low . Prices reasonable , go for it !
Food was good, and priced well. Service is slow and it took forever to get water.
Food was below what I expected
Love this place—great food!
Absolutely stunning! Friendly staff, fun atmosphere. and great as always
Great Sicilian dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent selection of Italian wines.
Always a great meal great service a real delight . The owner Angelo makes the time feel like you are at a friends house
A great place! Great food, great place, and always excellent service. I can't say enough good about this place!
As Sicilian, food was quite average. The sauce of the pasta of a friend was burnt. The sword fish was really dry. And cannolo filling was too sweet (too much cream and too little ricotta) I was expecting something better.
Excellent food! We just returned from a trip to Sicily, so Agrodolce was a pleasant reminder of great meals we had there. Service is adequate— but brusque and rushed. Could it be that this place could benefit from one more server? We’ll be back. 😃
I just discovered this place, and I wish I had known about it sooner. We had a party of four and everyone loved the home-cooked style Sicilian food! The natural rustic atmosphere and the unpretentious service makes this a better choice than many of Berkeley's better known restaurants.
We really enjoyed our meal and I had a nice glass of wine. My wife had the lamb shank and I had the ragu for main dishes. We thought both were quite tasty. We will return again.
Angelo treated us like family from the moment we walked in. The server made excellent dinner and wine suggestions, and we left feeling perfectly full and happy. Suggestions: linguini and clams is light and flavorful, the tiramisu is excellent, and the lemon sorbetto is the perfect refresher on these warm evenings.
Reasonably priced good and drink. Salmon dish was overpowered by strong tomato sauce, linguini and clams had a bit of sandy taste. Other dishes were tasty and well prepared.
