What Insiders Are Saying
Agora is often overlooked for trendier spots in Dupont, but the Mediterranean food here is pretty good. Use it for a last-minute meal.
Agora is an awesome spot for a Saturday or Sunday brunch. The service is always phenomenal. And they have really mastered getting your bottomless food and drinks to you quickly!
Everything was great! Thank you for taking such good care of us.
Overall good brunch experience, but everyone in the annex room that we were in were experiencing similar difficulties of getting drinks and food orders correct (at one point we just got random food that we didn't order, but we were hungry and didn't really care - but looking back, wish it was a little more organized so I could try more of the things I wanted to on the menu!). I'd go back for another brunch - was with a group of 5 and would do 4+ because it is a loud place that has that "party" vibe with loud music, so I wouldn't go for any small, intimate conversations or dates and such.
Great for brunch not enough bathrooms
Great Turkish/Mediterranean dining spot. Significantly better than Ankara. Ingredients seem fresher and the food has more flavor. Wait staff is friendly and efficient.
Having recently had a wonderful vacation in Greece, it's been delightful to discover DC's Greek food and drink. Agora met my expectations for delicious traditional specialities, notably grilled octopus, seafood, lamb, and tasty ways yogurt and seasonings transform favorite vegetables. Dishes are small like tapas and great to share with one or two, and you can add plates as you go. I splurged for desert, apricots with an amazing mascarpone cheese, caramel and nuts, wow! Plus the white Greek wine by the glass was my favorite, Assyrtiko. Planning to return for brunch so I can sample the Turkish coffee!
Great! Excellent food, nice atmosphere.
Loved the food! Wished there were a fee more vegan options though.
Brunch was delicious. The service staff is incredible. I love this place and can’t recommend it enough
Agora was a wonderful New Year's Eve spot. We had a party of 10 and our service and food were all spectacular. I also write a YELP! review for them, but I wanted to make sure I wrote one here because they really did go above and beyond for my friends and I. We will all be back I am sure of it.
Went here for a NYE dinner and it was great! They were offering 50% off bottles of wine which was a great deal. Easily shareable menu - delicious food!
Lovely waitress, AJ and terrible meal.
Best brunch spot my friends and I have been to! The owner even came over to speak to us and gave us a great vibe! Will definitely recommend it to our friends and family. We will be back.
I've been to Agora several times (only for brunch) and it has always been a delicious and pleasant experience. The bottomless brunch is by far the best 'bang for your buck' I've come across in the DC area and if you are like me and don't care for the carb heavy/super sweet typical brunches, this is the place for you. I don't eat pork, so I also appreciate that they offer a few other meat options since most brunch/breakfast places don't.
Not that I've ever had a bad experience with service here but this most recent time I went, our server (Leo) was extremely sweet and made me feel I needed to write a review. I came with family, some being elderly, who can be difficult and particular but they were raving about Agora by the time we left... Leo was helpful, made suggestions, did not forget any orders, checked on us quite a bit, cleared the table to make room as often as we needed, etc. He sent out bavlava and knafeh (as we were celebrating 2 birthdays), which was unexpected and delicious. Plus he smiled the entire time - really goes a long way :-)
This place has been consistently excellent since they opened. [They only get a ding this time for the over-aggressive waitress, who was otherwise very friendly and competent. Just please stop with the hard up-sell on EVERYTHING.] Food is phenomenal, creative, unique.
On the average, we have eaten at the Agora once or twice a month for the past X number of years. It is our restaurant of choice in the neighborhood. It is superior value for the $$. In our view, it is way above the 14th street/U street collection of eateries.
Agora is nothing but consistent: The food is way above average for the money. The hot food comes to the table hot. The cold food comes to the table cold. The staff is always pleasant and easy to deal with. The service usually is slow. The food usually is brought to the table in no recognizable sequence. Conversation usually is difficult because of the noise.
We intend to keep eating there. It is a super place.
Went based on the 4.5 rating we'd seen and were not disappointed...a wonderful dining experience!!!!
Always a good time at Agora. Great food and service, you can’t go wrong.
Food was generally quite tasty and authentic. Wine list was decent, but have tonsay that the markups are a bit rich. It is generally a shame that American restaurants feel that gouging wine drinkers is okay, but here it seemed a bit worse than usual. Our server was friendly and efficient.
Welcoming wait staff with the confidence to serve great food in a lively atmosphere and a fun place to catch up with family & friends!
The food was good the location was great and the ambiance was cozy.
The food, service and ambiance at Agora were all outstanding for lunch on a dreary winter day. There weren’t too many people there so it may be louder when crowded, but on that day the sound level was perfect. As was the lunch special, which provided an enormous amount of food at a very reasonable cost. I had the hummus, roasted cauliflower and squid, all of which were excellent. I will definitely be back. Also, our waiter was perfect. Always there when needed but never intrusive.
We never miss a chance to eat at Agora when we are visiting DC.
We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. Our server was fast but had one or two minor delays.
Food was excellent and bussing of the table was on point.
I would like them to carry a little more cocktail offerings.
We tried several different items on the menu and each one was wonderful. Truly enjoyed our dinner.
Brunch with a friend we hadn’t seen in a while and this place was a great venue for enjoying eats and company!
The food is consistently outstanding. I would recommend making reservations as if fills up fast.
Had a lovely time wine was delicious as was food
One of the best finds in DC for a great brunch! We will be back!
Very popular so make a reservation!
What a great brunch! The food and drinks were all delicious and abundant. Service was impeccable. Will definitely be back.
Agora used to be our favorite place but it somehow lost its personal touch and became commercial lately. We hope it will recover its identity soon!
I went with a group of friends and we enjoyed what we ate. However, there were a few missteps. The server never asked us if we wanted drinks, and he would disappear for long stretches. One of the dishes we ordered was short ribs, and they were a bit tough. I would recommend this restaurant to others, but with caveats.
What a great experience! Food was excellent as was great service by our server, AJ. We chose Agora based on reviews in Open Table and our meal totally hit the mark. We loved the octopus, shrimp and especially the lamb ribs. From beginning to end we were well taken care of, and couldn’t have asked for a better night out!
We enjoyed Happy Hour at the bar. Especially the Turkish wines.
Food and service were excellent!!! I also loved all the brick. My only complaint was the noise level. Otherwise, amazing!
Awesome Brunch! All you can eat AND drink and the food is amazing. Service was really friendly and attentive despite that fact that the place gets pretty crazy with the 11AM brunch seating. And the warm fresh pita bread is worth the price of admission every time.
Super tasty food! Great lively atmosphere downstairs. More quiet upstairs. Tapas. Order the lamb!!!
The food was delicious, staff and ambiance were great. The only problems I had were one of the dishes we ordered never came out and the size of the baklava dessert from the pre-theatre menu was laughable. Literally 4 bites. I've never had a dessert from a pre-theatre menu anywhere else in DC that was so small. I can't speak to the size of the other desert option as we all opted for the baklava. I would definitely go back, but would stick to the regular menu instead of the pre-theatre one.
Worst dining experience ever. It began poorly when I received expired, curdled cream for my coffee. We waited over an hour for our food, which never came due to the waitress not putting in the order. Then to make matters worse, we find out that the kitchen ran out of everything we ordered. Thanks for wasting an hour an a half of my time.
My friend and I shared a combo appetizer plate, which was very good. The pitas with the dish were wonderful, served warm, replenished as needed. Lots of lamb on the menu, clear on the menu viewed online ahead of time. We shared the riblets. On a Friday night, Agora was quite loud, impossible to have a conversation in a normal tone. Agora has fabulous, restored brick walls and hardwood floors, so the noise level on a weekend night shouldn't have been a surprise, but not in our senior comfort range. Will choose somewhere else for auditory comfort in the future.
