Attentive service. Knowledgeable staff. 4 of us went for afternoon tea. Exceptional covid-19 sanitizing practices in affect. Food was fresh and delicious. The only thing missing was clotted cream. We are looking forward to a Christmas tea.
We were very impressed with the outstanding service that our waiter/host provided. However, other elements were not as impressive.
1. The pastries and sandwiches were not anything special. Pretty much what you would get anywhere else in Toronto.
2. The tea collection was very good but all our pots were lukewarm. We did follow our host's advice to order our pots one by one to have hot tea, but it didn't seem to work as expected.
3. The ambience of the cafe was very nice and modern; however, it didn't add to the experience. I would have preferred a more traditional setting.
The food was amazing. Wish a bit more as I enjoyed it so much. The server was so nice and I love for the afternoon tea you can drink as many teas as you want. It made for a fantastic visit to the AGO
Where can you feel comfortable eating during this difficult COVID time? AGO’s Bistro! The tables are far apart, the staff is masked, the room is airy and filled with light. And the food is beautifully prepared and presented. Afterwards, a visit to the gallery itself makes for a perfect afternoon.
The AGO Bistro is a calm, safe dining experience, with lovely ambiance, friendly staff, and keen attentive service.
I will definitely continue to invite friends and family members to share a meal prior to visiting the gallery.
Thank you for your respectful considerations throughout.
Had high tea, only on for weekends in September. Food was very good, complimentary Mimosa, and excellent teas. Quite pricey, though.
My daughter and I wanted to go to the AGO and booked the afternoon tea which she has never experienced.
It was delicious but pricey.
She’s 18 years old and couldn’t drink the mimosa. I feel that the bistro could have given a discount for an underaged person.
Other than that, it was a lovely afternoon.
Went for the afternoon tea. Very good COVID policies. Service excellent. Afternoon tea food 7/10. Was happy they allowed us to have as much tea as we wanted and could try multiple flavours.
Great brunch and felt super safe during covid had a great time. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to not wait in line for a delicious lunch. Also we missed out the afternoon tea but there will always be next time.
Best burger I've had in a while. And the take out pie was really good.
Was a great idea to get us oldies back into the building
I didn't realize a third of the menu was sandwiches (what sounds like an actual dish on the menu, is actually a sandwich). I think it should be noted on the menu when a food item is a sandwich. When I inquired about the food with the restaurant staff prior to booking, there was also no mention that the items that sounded like dishes were actually sandwiches. The sandwiches were nothing fabulous and the bread tasted like yesterday's. At the very least, the bread should've been fresh. The quality of the ingredients, in all the food items, was mediocre for the price. The cost should really be about half of what it currently is, per person, to match the quality of the food. Conversely, the teas and the service were fabulous, We were able to try all kinds of very nice teas that were served in beautiful tea kettles and pretty tea cups, by very attentive and polite wait staff.
The AGO Bistro has really improved; the food and service are of great quality. We had the smoked salmon quiche with salad. The quiche was outstanding, with flavourful filling and a lovely crunchy crust. The plain greens were rescued by a delicious dressing. At the urging of the waiter, we shared a chocolate lava cake, which turned out to be one of the best I have ever eaten. The dining experience was COVID cautious without being intrusive. All in all, a very good experience.
It was a lovely time filled with fancy treats and dreamy teas.
We went for Afternoon Tea on Sunday. Everything was delicious. The service was terrific; all the staff were lovely. I'd definitely go back.
Would have liked some art work on the walls where we were seated.
Well kept and maintaining social distance from other tables. Street parking available directly in front. Food was mediocre. Delicious tea.
Fairly ordinary meal. However, it’s difficult with the Covid restrictions. We were in a back room that is not part of the main restaurant. The food is OK, but Not is good as it could be, we we’ve had in the past.
We had ordered tea for two, one vegetarian . The presentation of the savory and sweet and savory befitted an art gallery... even the cups and saucers are beautiful to look at. There is a wide choice of teas available and you can experience more than one! A really lovely way to spend an afternoon with a friend.
Exceptional food and service with personalized touches to boot! So glad the AGO has reopened. Will be back again soon!
It was unremarkable. Service was good. Your website is misleading. Food does not live up not does presentation which was poor.
Food was good, service fair, ambiance absolutely terrible for a
fancy Afternoon Tea.
I was expecting something like the Bistro restaurant as I remember it
previously, not a very poor 'cafe-type' setting.
Definitely not appropriate charge for the occasion.
The service was professional and excellent . The pre selected afternoon tea menu was exactly as expected . We started with a mamosa which was followed by on a three tier dish with varied food items starting with sandwiches with specially created fillings, delightful tea biscuits, scampi, duck and scones and finishing with macaroons and other desert items. Of course, there was a selection of teas to choose from which accompanied the main dish. Absolutely I would recommend the Afternoon Tea served at the Bistro attached to the Ontario Art Gallery.
This in the context of COVID, so all more subdued than it otherwise would be. Overall good food the second pot was lovely & hot, as it should be, 3) the room had windows on one side, paintings on another & 2 bare white walls. Given that this was at the AGO, it would have been nice to see paintings on the other 2 walls (one of the walls even had hooks on it).
We had a very good meal. The place was quiet because of the pandemics.
Attentive service, nice setting, and good food. Perfect spot for an after AGO exhibition lunch.
Plenty of room for physical distancing. The service was considerate but not overly intrusive as it could have been with the limited clientele. Menu was varied and our food (2 guests) was well presented and tasty. We were not hurried but neither were we ignored. It was my first venture to a restaurant and I was very comfortable. Would recommend.
This was our first dine in experience since COVID. Distancing was maintained and the servers masked and shielded. The choice of food was limited bur sufficient. My wife's trout was very good as was my Charcuterie plate.
Excellent in every respect.
It was cool because of the location being inside the gallery but the menu was incredibly limited. I thought it was really cheap how the menus were paper, being in an art gallery it could have been more thoughtful. The food was really good and the restaurant was quiet so that was nice.
Hi Naomii, thank you for visiting us! I just wanted to quickly address our menus right now. Before COVID we did opt for large reusable menus with beautiful works of art, however, for the safety of our diners, we have temporarily instituted a disposable menu. This is to ensure that no other guests touch your menu, and to limit the potential for contamination. We are also launching the use of QR codes today, if diners would like to see the menu on their phones instead. Thanks for dining with us!
Very attentive and accurate service. The food was fresh, and nicely presented.
We were there the last day before COVID shut everything down. We had a lovely time and our server, Kelly, was first class. Food wonderful, as always, lovely decor. My favourite Toronto spot.
Good food, great atmosphere and art. What more could you ask for?
The fried chicken dish was tasty by the chicken was overcooked and over fried.
We went for my partner's birthday and we were treated SO WELL, nice table, food was excellent, very tasty and perfectly prepared. Would recommend this for a special lunch out anytime.
Delicious food and very professional service. The room has interesting and fun coloured tables
Great Birthday lunch!
Food excellent and service over all was very good but it seemed that all the suggestions and recommendations from our server were for the most expensive items on the menu, whether it was food, or drinks.
Very nice dinner for 4 on a weekday night. Food and service were spot on with good vegetarian and meet choices.
