I took my daughter and granddaughter out for lunch at the Bistro last Thursday. I really enjoyed the buffalo meatloaf and potato leek soup and they ordered the soup and a salad. We all had different desserts that were delicious. The food was excellent as was the service. Lynn Clark, Grimsby, Ontario.
Corn soup and Ahi tuna salad were excellent. Fish and chips, mediocre. Expensive/
I really like the cafe but this time we didn't enjoy the choice we made - which was the grilled eggplant.
It was really not a tasty dish and neither my guest nor I enjoyed it. The eggplant was oily, the leek fritters overdone and dry and the pickled cranberries, while pleasant, didn't provide a sufficiently moist contrast either to the palate or the eye.
Interestingly the waitress, who was otherwise excellent, didn't ask us how we were enjoying our meal.
I feel sure that the Bistro could prepared a much more tasty vegetarian option than this is.
It's a lovely place and the service is attentive. Next time I will be sure to choose more carefully.
Another great meal, very nice ambiance and service.
Deliciously inventive dishes, excellent service and a great location. What’s not to like?
Cost for food was fair in regards to the mains but not for the tapas style appetizers (these are the ones on a separate short menu). Would rather come to sit at the bar for a couple drinks after walking around the gallery but not for a meal. Atmosphere was pretty quiet on a Thursday late afternoon and seating is dim with a more intimate vibe.
I enjoyed lunch at the AGO’s Frank restaurant (I prefer the original name). The chicken liver pâté was especially good. I wish the menu selection had been wider. Service was excellent.
Great spot for brunch in Toronto. Service was top notch and food was excellent.
Impeccable service. Delicious cocktails. Creative and tasty dishes. Will definitely return.
One entre had to be returned because cold.
2 people ordered al a carte menu and not summerlicious or prix frei for dessert choice when then went to order dessert were advised by server that it was no longer available server knew at start of order they wanted the bread pudding but server made no arrangements to secure their choice they specifically ordered al a cart for this choice.
2 people ordered summerlicious had different salads one of the summerlicious diners and one of the al a cart diners had same salads but when served were served wrong salads the summerlicios diner got the portion size of the al a cart the server had to recover the plates and serve
I am member at gallery and never had a good experience dining here Toronto has great chefs you can and should do better.
I do not think I will dine here again unless hard pressed by a guest of mine.
Good service, good wine ( A Tasmanian Pinot Noir). The navy bean soup was delicious as was the Cornish hen. The cheesecake trifle for dessert was to die for.
AGO Bistro is a wonderful restaurant to enjoy a Summerlicious lunch with friends.
Everything was great. Fries were a little overdone (burnt). Other than that everything was excellent.
Host was a bit pretentious
Menu very limited
If you are looking for a nice meal close to the Art Gallery, you can't find a better place.
Very friendly and quick service without making us feel rushed. The food was delicious and the flavours well balanced. We will eating there again.
Very nice spot if you are planning a visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The service was nice and the food was reasonably good. I would return.
A great treat on our birthdays. We will return soon.
Good experience at this Bistro. The waiter was extremely nice and the food was amazing!
Nice decor, comfortable seating; food expensive for what it is. The menu described lovely food but the cooking did not live up to it. The waiter was somewhat bossy with us. It wasn’t busy so it wasn’t as if he was ‘rushed off his feet’, with customers. He forgot to bring us part of our order, but we could never get his attention to let him know. Don’t think we will go again.
EVERYTHING about this restaurant is outstanding ! Th ambiance is exquisite, the food is delicious, the price point is perfect. Most importantly, our server, Sean, is their BIGGEST asset ! He made the whole experience that more enriched ! Look forward to doing it again and again !
Whether for a glass of wine and some cheese/dessert, a drink one one's own or with a friend/spouse sitting at the bar, the AGO Bistro is relaxing, high quality, and definitely not pretentious. However, I urge one to enjoy lunch or dinner - whether going to the AGO or not (my wife and I are members) - for the full experience. You will not be disappointed.
Re: seating, one can opt for the bar, the ground floor near the bar or on the other side of the restaurant, or an upper level at the top.
Highly recommended. (p.s. ask the bartender for a cocktail recommendation based on your tastes... you will enjoy!)
I've never had a bad meal here. I used to go often when it was called Frank, and am happy to see that the quality has not suffered from the change of management, or whatever happened. This brunch was as lovely as expected, with great, friendly service and an absolutely delicious truffled mushroom benny.
The waiter was kind of rushing me. I didn't feel comfortable. He asked me if I finished my soup, I said no. And then I was just checking my phone, he took away my soup.from appetizer to main course to desert he was rushing it through as if he wanted to make it finish already I didn't feel like I was enjoying my time
Fabulous lunch, as always. Servers are friendly and know their menus. Just the right amount of attention and as always - great food. One of our party is a vegan and she was delighted with her meal too.
Service was top-notch and food very enjoyable. Thanks
Lovely server who was personable & efficient! Enjoyed 2 appetizers & dessert! All delicious, especially the pate. My friend bought a cookbook & the chef was very friendly & chatted with us & signed the book. My friend, from England, was pleased!
Our server was one of the best servers I have encountered. Truly a super star of the service industry. The food was also delicious.
Beautiful, clean restaurant with delicious food and friendly service. I felt awkward going in with a reservation for one (plus giant backpack, lol), but I didn’t feel out of place. I’ll definitely be back.
We particularly liked the appetizer option 3 items for a set price
We had truffle fries, escargot and olivesAll. Ery good and a nice startr
Our experience at AGO Bistro was phenomenal! The service we received was excellent, from the time we walked in to the time we left. The food was delicious, cooked to perfection, and beautifully plated. We will definitely be returning in the future!
We sat at the bar and had a lovely time. Starting with drinks and appetizers and then moving on to dinner and dessert. The bar man was efficient and professional, kept a considerate distance to attend when needed and left us to our visit when not. Food is excellent and a good value. I really like this venue from top to bottom.
Great for a special occasion. The Mothers Day Prix Fixe was fabulous and very affordable.
The restaurant itself is bland, and resembles a cafeteria - not at all what I expected for the "AGO Bistro." The food was okay, nothing exceptional or delicious. For dessert there was only one option and it wasn't my taste. The americano's were not rich. Lastly, the service was awful. Our server seemed like we were bothering him. He was not attentive and every time he did come by the table he would rush us and walk away before we were done placing an order. My family and I won't be back.
Prix Fixe is a great value and perfect to share. Server was helpful to my mother-in-law, and knowledgeable. First time for brunch, but the food was excellent, as it always is when we go later. Would go again, and would bring the mother-in-law.
Very good food and excellent service. Limited by very good menu. Recommended.
It was a great way to end a great day. I would recommend the AGO Bistro.
Very nice place with a gourmet food. Will come again.
Had dinner before seeing an exhibit. Overall my friend and I enjoyed our meal except the PEI mussels. They just were not as flavourful as expected. Kind of blah.
The duck confit sal ad was very nice and light and fresh. My friend had the cid which she liked and the fennel with it was very good. Overall it was good but would not get the mussels again.
Great place for apéros lunch or dinner after a visit to the AGO. Room is cool and funky - love the wood and glass wine rack wall . Food is yummy from the bistro burger to the delicate Fogo Island Cod and the super delicious flank steak ...oh did I mention the pasta - it’s scrumptious too!!
