About
We arrived for our Open table confirmed reservation and the restaurant agreed that we had a confirmed reservation. We were told that they longer took open table and they would not seat us because they were too busy. We had a very poor experience on a prior dinner visit and were trying them a second time.
Needless to say this was our last attempt.
Restaurant was very nice, but when we showed up with our Open Table reservation, they said they don’t use it. Luckily they fit us in, but that needs to be squared away.
Went there for an early New Year's eve dinner on a date. They had their regular menu, which is what my friend and I wanted. The drinks were tasty and the food was very good. The chips and salsa/guacamole were amazing. I could have eaten just that and I would have been happy. Our server, "Jesus G" was great. The food arrived on time and dishes were appropriately cleared when finished. He was friendly and cheerful.
That gave us a large table in a side room for a holiday party. Great drinks and food.
Wonderful food and service for a little family celebration
Awesome service! Ambience is was great! They did a great job of making my partner feel special on his birthday.
I really enjoyed the restaurant. However, my salad came missing a couple of key ingredients. When discovered the wait staff more than made up for the error.
The service was excellent and really enjoyed our wait staff. He was a delight and really helped to answer our questions, and make great recommendations. We enjoyed our meal and our conversation that evening.
Food is good. Service is horrible. Wouldn't go back unless it was for a concert at the Paramount.
Friendly, attentive service, fabulous food and drinks, and a vibrant, fun atmosphere!
Food delicious. But if you are coming pre event at Paramount, do your best to arrive before 6PM. Despite providing a limited and more expensive menu for the Speaker Series, this team can't manage to bring in enough staff to serve. We waited 15 minutes to order anything and drinks came haphazardly 20 minutes after that and we only ordered 3 beers and 1 agua fresca.no mixed drinks. If we had time we would have ordered dessert and more drinks but everything took too long.
Excellent food! A bit on the noisy side.
We were very impressed with the quality of the food. The mushroom tacos were outstanding and the fish and shrimp ceviche was also top-notch. We plan on returning!
We could not get reservations and Flora but this was perfect for a very nice place
not far from the Fox Theater. Great service, good food & reasonable.
Four of us had a pre-concert dinner at Agave; it is a great choice in downtown Oakland. The cocktails were excellent; a good selection of tasty dishes. The service is outstanding. I’d highly recommend this restaurant and will return.
Tasty food but slow service. Overall, a good pick pre-Fox Theater dinner spot.
Agave was recommended by a friend. I was so disappointed. I ordered the Emmolas which were delivered at best lukewarm, not hot. The food was just alright, nothing I would order again. Maybe it was just a bad night for Agave (and for me too.) The server was great. She was friendly and attentive; and was very busy taking care of many tables at the same time. I do not write bad restaurant reviews unless warranted.
Agave Uptown is our favorite downtown Oakland location!
Enjoyed the food, nice ambience and close to other activities!
I don’t like the food. The food is not authentic Oaxaca style. There is not variety of food and of flavor water. The environment is not Oaxaca style.
I really like this place. I have been several times and have not been disappointed.
Restaurant is consistent with great food and service. Healthy options for those with special diets, too. Will definitely return.
Tasty, high quality Mexican dishes. Nice, clean, contemporary restaurant. Polite and quick service.
I love this place. Good food, good vibes, and good service.
We had reservations for a Saturday evening, and really looked forward to the live music. We waited for over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Our waiter didn't check on us, and we had to repeatedly track down someone to ask about drinks, our order, etc.
When our food finally arrived - it was really delicious, fresh and well prepared. I would give them a second chance, but my sweetheart already said he won't. Too bad.
Food was excellent & drinks were interesting but great too!!
We went to Agave Uptown before an Oakland Speaker Series event. Our biggest disappointment was that they had replaced their usual menu with a special "speaker series" menu that did not include any of our favorites. This special menu appeared to include only the more expensive items. Two of us had the salmon salad. It was good although not exciting. It was exactly what we expected. Three people had a spicy red stew served with tortillas, rice and beans. They thought it was OK but not something they would order again. One person had a crispy tortilla topped with steak and chicken. She said that the topping was fine but that she didn't like the tortilla it was served on. So, don't go on a Tuesday evening when there is a speaker series scheduled or you will not get their usual menu.
This restaurant is in beautiful space below the Mitchell Kapor Center. The servers were friendly and responsive, though a tad overwhelmed by the crowds. The real challenge was the food, which definitely did not match the nice ambience. We’re definitely going to give it another try though.
Food always yummy. Location convenient for an event at lake Merritt or Paramount. Pre theater definitely recommend reservations.
So sorry but we had a terrible meal at Agave Uptown. Drinks came 25 minutes after we ordered them. Food was cold and long time in coming. Waitress never refilled our water or asked us if we enjoyed our meal. We didn't. We won't go back.
I found it odd that margaritas weren't on the menu. But, our server stated we could definitely order them. The meal we chose was okay... tacos. But, the beans were cold. We had to "look" for our server (i.e. get his attention) in order to get more drinks as well as condiments. We ordered the bottomless chips/salsa. But, had to ask for refills twice instead of them being automatically brought out. In addition to the beans being cold, the restaurant charged us $2 for "extra" beans, which we did not ask for. We did bring this to our servers' attention. But, since we were running late for a show at the Paramount, we didn't have time for him to remove the extra beans from our bill. All in all, the food was okay; service was lacking. Not sure I'd go out of my way to eat here again.
Just great food and a fun atmosphere😊 the mole is wonderful and so is the guacamole.
Overpriced for what you get. Flavors are bland
Pretty good. Not great. Convenient location near the Fox Theater
I was disappointed in the food. I was expecting more Oaxacan options and mole options as advertised. The food, especially the beef was not of good quality and over cooked. The food and drinks were overpriced.
Great food and happy hour. Moderate portions! Many choices too.
We had a big group, gratuity was included so the waiter didn’t refill the water or bring out more chips. Other than that the experience was wonderful for a business lunch with 18 people.
Great happy hour drinks especially the agave margarita. Just wish they had more happy hour food on the menu but what they had was delicious!
We have business meetings at Agave very often. I personally love the environment and staff. The Staff are friendly and accommodating. Also, their mole is to die for.
I always love coming to Agave! In addition to the delicious Oaxacan cuisine, I think the ambiance always makes for a pleasant, upbeat dining experience! Love it!
