Agave Tequila Bar
Staff did not know what was going on with new menu changes, we were not able to order what we wanted on the menu because the restaurant came up with a new menu but didn't have a print out of it.
We have absolutely loved every Ann Arbor restaurant we’ve eaten at over 4 years visiting our daughter at college. AA is foodie heaven. But after 4 years, unfortunately we found a failure. Supposed to be Cinco de Mayo and graduation celebration at a Mexican restaurant. Unbelievably they were out of salsa!!! Got queso instead — like eating cold cement. No frozen margaritas. Brought broken taco shells for meal and said sorry. Service was abominable. Staff literally ran around a half empty restaurant and never knew which table they were supposed to be at - waited for drinks and food forever. Should have listened to reviews and skipped it. Just thankful we didn’t get sick....
Drinks are pretty pricey and not made well. However, the food and service were good!
Restaurant was not open yet a reservation was still accepted by open table.
The staff did not have any knowledge of tequila. Since they are advertised as a tequila bar, you would think the staff would be able to give recommendations. Also, we had a group of 12 and our food came out at very different times with the last person getting their food 30+ minutes after the first person. The food was fine but not great. Probably would not go back.
Food was wonderful! Loved their cheese covered burrito. The premium margarita was very good. Servers seem stressed. There were two bar tenders, but getting drinks from them were very slow. It wasn’t very busy when we first arrived, so the slowness and stress didn’t make sense.
I would recommend for the food just not on St. Patrick's Day or when there is supposedly an active shooter on campus. Service was not good, server disappeared for long periods of time, memebers of my party waited long periods of time for drinks or never received their drink at all. Drinks a little watered down for the price. Loud obnoxious drunk college kids making a mess in the restaurant. May try it again sometime.
Everything is good. They have items on the menu that set them apart from other similar restaurants in town. The prices are reasonable and the portions are perfect. I plan to add this into our regular rotation.
Food was delicious. Server was very friendly. Drinks took a little long to get, but were very good. Overall affordable and left thinking, we should tell people about this place so that it stays in business.
Sadly, one hot mess! The hostess and waitress were rushed. Food took 45 minutes to arrive. I wanted to be sympathetic, but it seemed short staffed and over booked. Maybe if someone offered us a comp I would have felt as if they cared, but with so many other options, keep walking.
I have heard good things from many people about Agave. The food was decent but the drinks were average. The margarita tower was not that strong compared to others I've had. Also, the service was not the best. It seemed as though there were not enough servers working so it was often hard to get the attention of our waitress. The happy hour food is a good deal. The portion sizes are great for the price. Although they have some great deals, compared to other Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Mexican restaurants, Agave would not be my first choice.
Unfortunately, very poor service on this visit. Issues with drink refills, order incorrect and being charged incorrectly for multiple items across 2 bills.
My friends and I wanted to have "Sunday brunch" at 11AM, which turned out to be when Agave is meant to open. They were still closed at 11 when we got there, so we walked around a bit to give them some time. When we came back they were still closed (~11:20), with no one inside that I could see. Menu looks neat, but we didn't have a chance to actually eat there...
Wouldn’t honor the reservation
The restaurant was obviously understaffed, there were just 2 waiters and a bartender to cover all of the dining room, including hosting and bussing. We waited about 15 minutes just to be greeted. The staff was working very hard, it was just too busy for 3 people to handle. The food was good, but the restaurant could use some sprucing up including a thorough cleaning. If they staffed it adequately and kept it cleaner I might return; otherwise not.
Outstanding food and service! We went during restaurant week and had the burrito and shrimp tacos. We both loved our lunch and had leftovers as the portions were very generous. We liked it so much that we are going back tonight!
Our waitress was attentive, but wasn’t very knowledgeable about the menu. The draft beer taps were down and there wasn’t much of beer selection for People who don’t like tequila. If you like tequila and Mexican food you definitely have to try Agave! The Baja shrimp tacos are absolutely amazing and worth the drive, we even took some to go.
Very unique dishes, loved the Inferno tacos (it's rare to find a place that serves food spicier than a couple jalapenos).
The dishes we had were a little heavy on the sauce (difficult to taste how the food itself was prepared), but I know that's how many Americans prefer their food. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to coming back again, it was a good experience with a fun menu.
Great atmosphere with wonderful staff.
Great for groups
Food and service were fantastic. Had a great time with friends!
Food was ok. Drinks very overpriced. Service was chaotic!
This place is all new. Great inexpensive creative tacos and other treats.
An all new taco to try. A blackened fish taco with a mango salsa. Seriously so good.
Came just before the dinner rush. Drinks took awhile, but the food came out fast. Went on Taco Tuesday- a great deal. Probably would only come back on Tuesdays.
Food was good, we did get two different menus, one updated one not, so ordering was a little strange
They were out of 2 different things we tried to order, but not the end of the world
Good service overall
We had reservations at 8:00 pm. However we were not seated until 8:30 pm. We were not greeted upon entering the restaurant. Around 6 workers walked past us without anyone saying anything. Once seated we had to wait 20 mins before our drinks were given to us because the bartender was having an argument with a customer. The final straw was when my boyfriend ordered a steak chimichanga and they bought out beef. We told the server and all she said to us was that the kitchen was a mess. She didn’t offer to remake it or anything. This was our first time at Agave Tequila and I’m not sure if we will cone back due to the horrible service.
Worst service I’ve had in a very long time. My wife and I went expecting great things as it was during Ann Arbor’s restaurant week; we couldn’t have had a worse experience. We will not be returning and encourage others to not waste their time or money at this establishment.
Service was poor,
Food tasted mass produced when it finally arrived
A Mexican restaurant should at least try and have decent salsa. This tasted like it came out of a jar in a cheap supermarket!
Will not be returning
Food was incredible, server was friendly, only downside was our margaritas came out after the food did. Was surprised that a tequila bar wasn’t staffed with more bartenders. Could’ve been an off night though...we’ll probably still go back.
Literally the worst dining experience of my life. We went for my friend’s 21st birthday and it took over an hour and a half to get our food which definitely was not worth the price. A manager came to help us when he realize our waitress wasn’t doing anything and she gave him the biggest attitude I’m surprise she didn’t get fired right then and there. and on top of that our waitress told us that margaritas were five dollars when in fact they were 10 and wasn’t able to change our bill. This all created a horrible birthday dinner for my friend and made us never wanna go back again.
Everything about this place was terrible. The servers were not attentive. No hostess to seat customers. No refills on drinks. Took 15 minutes to get a menu. And the food was not good. Will not return.
The service was unusually slow and we could tell our fried ice cream had been sitting out for a few minutes before it was brought to the table, but the value was great and the food was also very tasty. We sat outside which was nice. Good Mexican food but don’t expect it to blow you away.
The salsa and chips, queso and guac were very good.
The chicken fajitas were flavorless and lacking chicken.
The steak fajitas were so chewy and had no taste I couldn't even swallow the meat.
Food was ok - I’d go again but I have had better tex-mex or mex - whatever they categorize themselves
Drinks were delicious - large and not too strong
We had one server probably because it was a late Monday lunch so there was only 1 other table
Great atmosphere and great eating.
First time we have been at a Tequila Bar, and it was fun trying the range of tequilas and tequila-based drinks. Also, we had appetizers/salads, and they were light, fresh, and delicious. The environment is simple, but with distinctive Latin flare.
In all, we felt Agave is a nice place to drop in for a bite and a few drinks.
