We went to Agave because we heard that the margaritas were good and they were. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was also great! Awesome ceviche, great sliders, tasty fries!

In the past, when we ate at "The Old House," (what it was called before being named Agave) there was a full dinner menu. In it's new format it is pretty much bar food served in a nice dining room. The choices were mainly appetizers and sandwich items. What we ordered was tasty, but definitely not what we expected for a special anniversary dinner. We'll scratch Agave off our list of "Special Occasion" restaurants.
As a local, I have often met friends for dinner at the El Dorado Hotel before an event at the Lensic because of its close proximity. The expansion of the Agave bar into the space previously occupied by the Old House Restaurant is attractive and we enjoyed a quiet booth. However, the menu is lacking. The service is slow and the food is uninspired. It is a shame the hotel can't hire a good chef, an adequate kitchen and bar staff, develop an interesting menu and serve delicious food! Also, it would be appreciated if the hotel would honor a Lensic ticket stub and provide free parking. Then we would be more likely to enjoy a pre performance dinner and after performance drink with friends......like we did before the hotel changed hands.
Lovely decor but limited menu and mediocre food. Santa Fe has much better options for the money
Menu has changed from what they have posted online... not in a positive way. Service was very good, best part of the evening. I ordered the Filet and while the spices were interesting the portion size and quality of the meat were pitiful especially for the price. Another person ordered the Pappardelle which was marginally acceptable. However they had run out of the meat that was selected. I opted for the 'rum brownie' for dessert which was probably the best of the food selections for the evening. I won't describe it but the presentation was borderline pornographic and had us all laughing... but probably was not their intent. I don't know how this place survives in a city like Santa Fe which abounds in very high quality restaurants.
We have been here many times. This time was a real disappointment. 45 minutes from seating to being served first round. Second round took awhile, too. Some in the party received the second round before the rest because another server took the drinks. The waitress was overwhelmed. We felt sorry for her. I expect better at this bar based on past experiences.
We had a drink at the bar, and dined at Agave on Friday evening, March 2, 2018. The wait staff was very friendly, however they were very, very understaffed - especially behind the bar. During dinner, we waited 20 minutes for a glass of wine. Unacceptable. They are too many other restaurants in Santa Fe with better service to go back to Agave. And, we're locals...
Subpar food but attentive server who accommodated our dietary restrictions and still got us to our theatre performance on time. Thanks!
Old House Restaurant recently closed and Agave, which was in the next room, expanded its space. We didn't know this when we made the reservation but kept the reservation since we had tickets to a function that was across the street. There was no hostess and no one to seat us until a busboy found someone. Agave is . . . a lounge? . . . a small plate restaurant? I don't think they quite know how to utilize the larger space yet. Service was poor. We had to ask different servers to find our server. The wine came after the food, 2 shares that we asked come separately but didn't. The shrimp tamale was all tamale. The salad with grilled salmon was ok, could nave been grilled more. Both came on plates of an awkward size, making sharing a mess.
Breakfast came as part of the package. The waiter was sloppy with pouring water, getting it on the table, menus. When the check came (since it was already paid for) he wrote a note "suggesting"an 18 % gratuity. Food was good, tho.
We would stay at the hotel again -it was lovely - but not eat there.
My husband and I come here for early dinner often. I took my friend for lunch this time.
I like that the valet parking is available.
It’s spacious and service was great. The salad dish that I was looking for was no longer in the menu, but the server talked to the chief and they accommodated to my request.

Total train wreck. Our family has been going to the old house for 20 years as it has been one of the best restaurants in town for years. Sadly, they only tell you that the old house is no more once you arrive and what you are faced with is a hotel restaurant. Service was terrible and disorganized. Just as another reviewer mentioned appetizers arrived at the same time as 3 if our 5 entrees ( two others took 23 minutes to get there). So embarrassed as we took out of town guests to a former great place. Clearly they have moved away from real food and just want to serve the hotel guests. The restaurant is poorly managed (after long waits and incorrect orders, we never saw the manager). Good place to go if there is literally no other place open.

Service was abysmal. First course arrived before drinks. They did not have the sparking wine or bottled wine we ordered from their list. First course came before drinks. We sent it back. Then first and main courses came at the same time. We sent the main back. No accommodation from management for an expensive and aggravating Christmas celebration which still cost an arm and a leg.
xmas eve entrees...both seafood and prime rib were delicious. However for 85.00 each... the prime rib was truly the better value. Seafood entree served only 2 shrimp and 2 scallops
We have been many times to this restaurant and always had a good experience with food and service. This time the food was bad and service poor. Unless management get it’s act together I don’t recommend this place to anyone!

While my steak was good, my husband's sea bass was flavorless. The service was poor even though it was not busy. There were many empty tables.
Meal was good but has been better in the past. Service was average. Have been here many times but will probably try somewhere else next visit to Santa Fe.
Very disappointed in this Thanksgiving dinner. Salad was overdressed and soggy; Lobster Bisque had less than a teaspoon of lobster. Turkey was almost non-existent and was a mess. Server spilled a pitcher of ice all over me, the floor and the table. We had to ask for things at least three times. Very disappointed!
Our service, cuisine, wine and ambience was very appreciated.
The coffee was horrible - skip the coffee.
Shrimp cocktail, crab cake, sea bass. The sea bass was cooked perfectly. It was my birthday and I got a flan and chips and salsa. Enjoyed after dinner drinks. Best was just taking the elevator up after dinner. Lovely evening!
The food was great but we were the only table for an hour. A few service issues, nothing major, just details. The bar was very loud, made it hard to have a conversation in a room with only one table seated, us.

Server was really low key. Food was slow coming out and my steak was way under cooked. By the time my steak was served, the ithers in the group were finished eating. He did take 15% off my meal without me having to ask
We noted that the restaurant had few diners, so took that as a clue we might not have made a good choice. As a result we ordered from bar menu. Calimari and nachos were mediocre. Nachos billed as "grilled"chicken, it it there were only a few nuggets of tasteless chicken.
Main courses were absolutely terrible. We went on a Thursday night. I didn't think it would be terribly busy, but it was the only night my husband and I could work out an anniversary meal together. I should have heard a bell ring when the hostess called to confirm our reservation, quoting the wrong times, then asking me to come in later because they were quite busy. My husband ordered the noodle paella, although it wasn't called that, and it was so salty he had to send it back. He rarely sends food back! He ordered a scallop and shrimp dish to replace it. When it finally came out, there were no scallops on it. No manager came to visit us. I had a beautiful piece of steak that was drowning in sauce. Again, way too salty. The meal presentation was horrible and the place is really loud acoustically. We were offered a free dessert for our anniversary. Gee,now I feel really special.... I had creme brûlée and my husband had a chocolate tort type thing. They were delicious. Kudos to the dessert maker. Shame on the head chef!
While the food was outstanding and all six of us agreed everything was delicious the service was the poorest we have had in a long time. As the hostess seated us she informed us that along with the regular menu there was also a three course dinner available. When our server was asked about this she either said they were out of it or it wasn't available. Wait time for getting our drinks was at least 15 minutes. We had to continually flag down our server for bread and butter plates, drinks and additional serving pieces. The whole wait staff disappeared for long periods and the only attentive one was the waiter filling our water glasses. Two of us were served our entrees and then another 15-20 minutes elapsed before the rest of our party was served. The Food and Beverage Director and/or the Restaurant Manager need to get on the floor and train their staff properly. We hadn't been to the Old House in a while and won't be back any time soon. It's a shame as the food was delicious and this was a birthday celebration.
Mediocre when you think of our expectations- the restaurant is in the Eldorado Resort - it should be classier
It's expensive, but the food is delicious and the room is lovely. However, I do think they should have had a vegetarian option among the main courses on Saturday night. That said, the chef is outstanding.
Bar is close to dining room, so was very loud the night we went. Food was good but not good enough to support the price. Disappointing. The hotel its located in is beautiful.
Food was extremely disappointing. We had our wedding there 15 years ago and the quality of the food nor the menu selections are not any near what they used to be. Obviously not a choice for fine or even quality dining in Santa Fe, especially when there are so many more desirable options. Service was great---both the hostess Angelina and our waiter Salvatore. To top it off my rib eye was cold....took leftovers home and it was better two days later with eggs!!!!

From the first person we met at Reception, through the entire wait staff, the service was outstanding as was the food!
New Year's Eve dinner so expecting the higher price-- $95 per person. However, usually there is something extra for the money (champagne, glass of wine, something). Food was excellent but meal ended up almost twice as much as a similar meal when we've been before--again with nothing to make it feel "special."

We have been coming to Santa Fe for Christmas since 2008.. This was by far the best choice for Christmas Brunch we have made over the years! Exquisite decor in all rooms, inviting fireplace, delicious foods, and incredible staff. Again, for $40 a person, the courses would have easily cost double had we gone to our usual dining hang-outs. We plan to eat here,again, next year!
The Hollandaise sauce tasted like it came from a package, with a little lemon squeezed in. Wasn't overly impressed with the dessert selection. Service was fantastic, just over all not super impressed with the setting.
The food was overpriced - the menu on the website is not the same as the one at the restaurant. The items on the menu were completely different and cost twice as much. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night.
