Thank you for making my birthday lunch with friends such a nice time. Felt sorry for our server as he was a busy bee, appeared to be the only one taking care of everyone. He did a great job. Loved my cobb salad and thank you again for the delicious flourless chocolate cake with the birthday sentiment. Great job. I would do it again!
The food was just OK but the menu choices are not what they used to be when it was The Old House nor is the quality of the cooking. Not certain we would never return here.
Glad to be able to make a reservation for breakfast rather than standing in line! Highly recommend the avocado toast. Probably the best I’ve had. Tasty thick bread, Cotija and salsa—what’s not to love. Egg white omelette was ok but leaned to the dry side.
This restaurant had amazing food with just the right amount of spices and we really enjoyed it. The chef came out to see how we liked it which was very nice of him to do, and the deserts were amazing.
Unfortunately the service was very slow.
Not a very welcoming feeling
We each ordered a steak that had no flavor at all. The fingering potatoes where band as well.
Not worth the money for such nice restaurant .
The menu was limited; food ok to disappointing. Trout dish almost unappetizing. After meal, we found out there was a fish and chips special every Friday evening we were not told about. Would have ordered that. Kitchen was out of one of the entrees ordered (and waitress didn't know until food almost ready to come out.) Waited quite a while for waitress to bring bill; finally had to go find her (and there were not a lot of diners left at this time) Then, found out bill was incorrect -- charged us for the first entree that -- was 86'd (and the replacement entree) and an extra margarita we didn't have and had to go find her again. Waitress should have checked the bill before bringing it to the table! Very very noisy as we arrived (a lot of bar drinkers right next to our table) but calmed down as they left, en masse. We were taking a friend out for dinner to thank her and we were very disappointed in the whole experience.
Overall, a great place. Bar service is very slow as restaurant fills up. Maybe need to add an additional bartender.
Beautiful place and food was excellent. Great happy hour!!!
Great Place for Happy Hour. Could be the Best In Santa Fe
Geraldo was wonderful. Service was perfect. Food and drinks were delicious.
Food and service was terrible. We ordered the ribeye and it came served undercooked and it was tough as nails and half fat. We never got our starters, they forgot. In addition I ordered a dirty martini and it came with no olive juice and olives on the side. It was loud and it took forever to get waited on. When you spend over $100 for dinner it should be at least decent.
Restaurant week. Ordered the ribeye steak. Cooked as ordered and happy about that. I don’t know where they get their cuts of meat but this was, by far, the worst ribeye steak I’ve ever had. The fact that I didn’t get an actual steak knife gave me high hopes for this steak. Could not cut it with the butter knife and was the most “chewy” steak I’ve ever had. While there, my wife and I ordered the signature margarita some we’re doing the margarita trail. Margarita was just ok and was never asked if we would like another drink so just had water. Dinner was over $100 and was the worst waste of money I’ve ever spent.
Restaurant week in Santa Fe. Usually very good but this was not a good experience. Small portions, not so good as in the past and service was slow and not consistent. Only 4-5 tables occupied with 20+ open.
I am not sure what happened on the night we were there but there was so much confusion with the waitstaff. No one seemed to know what to do. The food was amazing and they made a perfect margarita. We will try it one more time to see if it was just an off night. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the meal was top notch. I do wish the service was more attentive. The servers were walking around lost.
Restaurant week before ballet.
We went for happy hour before dinner. We sat at the bar as there were no open seats at the bar tables. We were then completely ignored by the two bartenders. We were at the bar for about an hour, and the only time we got any service was when the manager swung through the area. When the manager took our drink order, he then told it to one of the bartenders, the bartenders then spent the next several minutes arguing about who would serve us (apparently the loser got to make our drinks). Later we ordered the ceviche, which is a standard on their menu. It took over 20 minutes for it to arrive, and the shrimp was on the tough side. The service was better in the restaurant, and the dinner food arrived quickly.
My wife and I visited for Valentine’s day dinner. Our waitress Cheyenne was attentive, friendly and helpful. The butternut squash soup, scallops appetizer and filet & shrimp scampi were incredibly delicious. To top it off the triple chocolate mousse was heavenly. Well done and we will return.....highly recommend!
Limited menu, very weak wine list, pricey for value
I had a great time at Agave. Food was excellent and service was superb. Was seated you the fireplace which was a bonus to the experience.
Breakfast menu is fantastic and a great representation of New Mexican food. However, be ware as their lunch menu is dull in comparison to their brunch options if you are looking for the New Mexican fare. Breakfast stops being served at 11am.
The food and service were great. We did have a problem with front of house. Two people joined us unexpectedly at our 5 p.m. reservation. Although the restaurant was deserted at that hour -- only three or four tables -- the staff would not seat us immediately at a four top table, and wanted us in a booth, which does not fit me. When we pointed to a table next to the booth, we were told we could not have that. That table remained empty the entire time we were at dinner. So I was squeezed uncomfortably into a booth.
Ridiculously expensive for two enchilada plates and three premium margaritas. $100 with tip!! WOW!
Table was reserved. Plenty of open tables. Service was excellent, attentive correction of drink order was
Immediately resolved. The food was delicious and plentiful. Great place for everyday dining. A bit pricey.
Restaurant uncomfortably hot. Bartender made us feel unwelcome, so much so we went to another restaurant.
Very disappointed that the "fine dining " menu was the same as the bar menu. When I mentioned it to our waiter, he made a nasty remark and walked away. I told him that his remark was uncalled for and left the lounge.
welcoming staff all recognizing the special occasion, however we reviewed the menu on line and chose the restaurant because of 2 entrees we were looking forward to. Much to our chagrin a different menu was presented to us when seated. We decided to stay though disappointed. Our choices with the offered menu were very limited with only 1 or 2 choices other than the usual bar food. The quality of our choices were nicely presented and the quality was there, wine list outstanding but on the pricey side. Major downfall was not having the appropriate menu on line
We went just for drinks and a bite. Margaritas were very good as was the flight of guacamole. Ni
Great place to visit with friends and family. Staff was attentive and courteous. I highly recommend.
The service was good but the food was not very good at all.
We went to Agave because we heard that the margaritas were good and they were. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was also great! Awesome ceviche, great sliders, tasty fries!
Great food and excellent service! Quiet setting. Very attentive server-Ryan
In the past, when we ate at "The Old House," (what it was called before being named Agave) there was a full dinner menu. In it's new format it is pretty much bar food served in a nice dining room. The choices were mainly appetizers and sandwich items. What we ordered was tasty, but definitely not what we expected for a special anniversary dinner. We'll scratch Agave off our list of "Special Occasion" restaurants.
As a local, I have often met friends for dinner at the El Dorado Hotel before an event at the Lensic because of its close proximity. The expansion of the Agave bar into the space previously occupied by the Old House Restaurant is attractive and we enjoyed a quiet booth. However, the menu is lacking. The service is slow and the food is uninspired. It is a shame the hotel can't hire a good chef, an adequate kitchen and bar staff, develop an interesting menu and serve delicious food! Also, it would be appreciated if the hotel would honor a Lensic ticket stub and provide free parking. Then we would be more likely to enjoy a pre performance dinner and after performance drink with friends......like we did before the hotel changed hands.
Lovely decor but limited menu and mediocre food. Santa Fe has much better options for the money
Menu has changed from what they have posted online... not in a positive way. Service was very good, best part of the evening. I ordered the Filet and while the spices were interesting the portion size and quality of the meat were pitiful especially for the price. Another person ordered the Pappardelle which was marginally acceptable. However they had run out of the meat that was selected. I opted for the 'rum brownie' for dessert which was probably the best of the food selections for the evening. I won't describe it but the presentation was borderline pornographic and had us all laughing... but probably was not their intent. I don't know how this place survives in a city like Santa Fe which abounds in very high quality restaurants.
We have been here many times. This time was a real disappointment. 45 minutes from seating to being served first round. Second round took awhile, too. Some in the party received the second round before the rest because another server took the drinks. The waitress was overwhelmed. We felt sorry for her. I expect better at this bar based on past experiences.
We had a drink at the bar, and dined at Agave on Friday evening, March 2, 2018. The wait staff was very friendly, however they were very, very understaffed - especially behind the bar. During dinner, we waited 20 minutes for a glass of wine. Unacceptable. They are too many other restaurants in Santa Fe with better service to go back to Agave. And, we're locals...
Subpar food but attentive server who accommodated our dietary restrictions and still got us to our theatre performance on time. Thanks!
Old House Restaurant recently closed and Agave, which was in the next room, expanded its space. We didn't know this when we made the reservation but kept the reservation since we had tickets to a function that was across the street. There was no hostess and no one to seat us until a busboy found someone. Agave is . . . a lounge? . . . a small plate restaurant? I don't think they quite know how to utilize the larger space yet. Service was poor. We had to ask different servers to find our server. The wine came after the food, 2 shares that we asked come separately but didn't. The shrimp tamale was all tamale. The salad with grilled salmon was ok, could nave been grilled more. Both came on plates of an awkward size, making sharing a mess.
Breakfast came as part of the package. The waiter was sloppy with pouring water, getting it on the table, menus. When the check came (since it was already paid for) he wrote a note "suggesting"an 18 % gratuity. Food was good, tho.
We would stay at the hotel again -it was lovely - but not eat there.
My husband and I come here for early dinner often. I took my friend for lunch this time.
I like that the valet parking is available.
It’s spacious and service was great. The salad dish that I was looking for was no longer in the menu, but the server talked to the chief and they accommodated to my request.
I appreciated their efforts.
