With a passion for family and food the Lujan sisters came together to open Agave Azul Kitchen & Tequila Bar in 2012. Their goal was to bring together a gathering of authentic Mexican home cooking that stuck to their roots. Their family originated from Zacatecas, Mexico and then came to Hughson, California to begin farming. With this heritage came recipes passed down from generation to generation. Food was the center of their life and growing up on a local farm allowed their family to cook at home with food grown on their land. Sandra and Gabby originally had the thought of opening Taqueria El Agave, but it quickly transformed into a full kitchen serving some of their favorite dishes such as pollo con crema y rajas. The unique thing about Agave Azul is their attention and focus to the quality of each of the ingredients that goes into their recipes and their commitment to never sacrificing on quality home grown ingredients.

Best upscale Mexican restaurant in the area, bar none. Mocaljetes are solid; every entree we've tried has been very flavorful and well prepared. Don't skip the tortilla soup; everyone in the Valley does one, but none are better than this.

Mole chicken was great with good flavor and texture. Deep fried fish in fish tacos were so overcooked it was hard to chew. We constantly had flies swirling around us and landing on our food at an indoor table!

Great food in the atmosphere was great live music made it entertaining. Our waiter could’ve been a little more attentive to our table. But overall the experience was great. The food was great. The atmosphere was great. Enjoyed hearing the live music DJ.

Food and drinks were very good but our waiter was very slow to serve food, drinks, and check. When asked if I can have coffee at the end of our meal, our server said, "We already dumped the coffee. Do you HAVE to have coffee? We can make more, but you can have milk instead." Ultimately, I decided not to drink coffee because I didn't want anyone to be upset having to make another pot but it was frustrating considering we spent over $300 as a group.

It was my birthday diner. There was four in the party. We were seated right away. The servicer was the best. He answered all our questions and there were a lot of them. Turns out if it is your birthday you get a shot of house tequila. The food was the best I think I have had in a very long time. There was so much food you'll have a hard time finishing it all. The bar services great house margaritas. We will be back to this awesome place again and again.

I made my reservation in advance and requested a booth table. Once we got there we got seated in the middle section (basic table, booth) while some of the booth tables were empty. What’s the point of asking for any specific request if they can’t honor it

From the moment they greeted us at the entrance, to the promptness of getting our table we knew it was going to be a good experience. We had a party of 6, they brought to chips and salsa sets to our table. Waters were serve literally as soon we sat down. The waitress (I wish I could remember her name she had above shoulder length hair and glasses) gave us amazing food and drink recommendations. She was very attentive of the table, and made the experience very enjoyable. The food portions were very decent, flavorful, and the mojitos were on point! We will be back!

Went to celebrate for a family function. While the cost was great for food and drinks, the location of the restaurant is less than stellar. If you are nearby and would like heavy Mexican food, good service at a good price, this is the place to be.

Excellent homemade food. Everything is from scratch. Worth the drive - they are in Hughson. Nothing in Modesto or Turlock compares. I hate the black walls but can overlook for the great food.

The food was delicious, fast, and served hot. Service was slow on a busy night. Drinks took a long time from the bar. Fun music and a vibe. Just be prepared to be there for a while if you want to have a couple of drinks.
