   I booked the afternoon tea for my partner and I for my birthday because I had read good reviews. It was in the bar of the hotel and there was no one else there at all. It was a Friday afternoon and the hotel was quiet so I assumed this was the reason. The table had been set up for us, but unfortunately things did not get better after this. The young man serving us initially did not appear in a good mood. When I asked him if there was a drinks menu he just said ‘no’. I was surprised that the bar did not have a drinks menu. He also did not verbally tell us what drinks were available. I could see there was a drinks chart on the wall so I had to get up myself to look at the drinks available, which was surprising that I had to do this. As it was a nice day, we asked to sit outside on the verandah. He was helpful in allowing us to move but I wished he had asked in the beginning where we might like to sit. At this point I indicated that it wasn’t what I had been expecting and he appeared to change his attitude after this. He then became much more friendly and accommodating. The food itself was ok, the scones were warm and seemed fresh. The lemon cake was nice and they were able to accommodate me to provide vegetarian sandwiches (although I don’t know what they were as the waiter didn’t say!) I had mentioned the dietary requirement when booking, which judging by my experience it would probably be necessary to mention in advance if you have any special Requirements. You may not be asked or told about this otherwise. Overrall the experience did not seem worth £16.95 each. We had dinner at the excellent Bistro Pierre in the evening and when I saw that they also did afternoon tea (for the same price) I had wished that we had gone there instead. I imagine it would have been a much nicer experience. So to any others considering their options - give this one a miss and go to Bistro Pierre instead.

   Cakes and scones were freshly baked. The scones were still warm and very tasty.

   Lovely food, great service. Love it there. My son who is 8 came too as a treat for Nannys birthday and he gave York House 10 stars out of 10 as his first afternoon tea experience

   When I've booked cream teas before there in nice settings . Beautiful laid out but this was just in bar ok had tablecloth but was expecting more
