Made our daughter's 21st a lovely memorable afternoon. The Oscar Wilde lounge is so elegant. Service was excellent as was the food, especially smoked salmon sandwiches in a black charcoal bread. We were offered extra sandwiches, which in some places you don't get. Great choice of teas in the menu which were explained by the waitress. The pianist played Happy Birthday while she was delivered some chocolates on a plate with chocolate written "Happy Birthday" on it which was a surprise. The only thing I would say is we felt quite cramped on a small table. We had 2 platters as she had her own being vegetarian as well as the teas, glasses etc for 3 people. All the staff were so friendly and polite, thank you!
Beautiful place, beautiful service and very nice food.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We booked afternoon tea to celebrate our 11th anniversary and were delighted when a 'happy anniversary' message, written in chocolate, was brought out.
The pianist was superb and the atmosphere delightful.
10/10 and will definitely be visiting again.
Amazing venue, lovely staff, great food, we all loved it. Highly recommend.
Excellent location, food and choices of tea. Service very polite and attentive.
Special anniversary celebration. Experience was excellent The service and food were outstanding. The pianist played a wide range of music and was extremely talented. Would like to revisit and would highly recommend.
Absolutely wonderful high tea experience! Only negative was the room was very warm!
Excellent service, good food and a great variety of tea.
This was by far the very best London afternoon tea I have experienced in a long time. The Oscar Wilde tea room is spectacular.
The food was perfect and very traditional the way I think afternoon tea should be. The service was excellent without being overbearing.
The staff were warm and friendly and seemed to re-appear just as you might need just about anything.
Hard to fault anything, so I will not try.
We loved it! Every minute. Such a treat but worth every penny. Great tea room, staff & food. Highly recommend
Fabulous from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble, from assisting me with vegan options, to arranging flowers on my behalf for my mother. We were celebrating her 80th birthday. Everyone made such a fuss of her. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout. The Oscar Wilde lounge is stunning, opulent and intimate. Food was delicious and plentiful, with more available if we had wanted it. The pianist played happy birthday, as the staff came out with a decorated plate and Mum’s flowers. It really was a special afternoon and Ziya cannot recommend Cafe Royal highly enough.
The ambiance is opulent without being pretentious. The history is what drew us to this location. The staff provided outstanding service. We ordered the afternoon tea package with champagne. This package was the perfect size and just the right of food and drink for 3 of us. The manager Archie was superb! He and his staff made an unforgettable experience that we will remember for a lifetime. Highly recommend!
Our entire experience was completely lovely! Magdalena took care of us and was very gracious in explaining each portion of the afternoon tea, as well as offering tea suggestions. The ambience is exceptional, the sandwiches were delicious, and the Victoria sponge deserves its own mention. Thank you to Magdalena and the rest of the staff for making this a wonderful afternoon for us!
My husband and I enjoyed afternoon tea at the Hotel Cafe Royal during our honeymoon to London. Everything was perfect and it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, the tea was perfect and the ambiance and service was superb. Highly recommend afternoon tea at the Hotel Cafe Royal if you are ever in London.
Wonderful experience of tea, food and environment with friends.
Fabulous setting, with opulent decor and pianist providing a classic atmosphere. The menu was excellent. Lovely savoury selection, good choice of teas and fine quality sweet treats. All with good service, what’s not to like?!
Sandwiches (especially the vegetarian options) weren’t that inspiring - and did feel slightly awkward about asking for more!
Perfect in every way. The food, the service, the surroundings- it was a little piece of heaven. Although there were very few people there, it still had atmosphere as the pianist was marvellous and the staff went out of their way to be attentive and friendly.
But I would let them know that a service charge will be added to the quoted £55
From the moment we were delivered to the entrance of the hotel and directed to the coat check it was a wonderful experience. Everyone we encountered at this hotel were friendly and welcoming. The high tea was five star from start to finish. We were not rushed, enjoyed every moment and were sorry to leave. Also must mention, the piano background music made the ambiance so elegant. Our server was most lovely and accommodating and We truly enjoyed her conversation. The items they chose to serve were all tastier then the next with the presentation being AAA. This is a great English high tea experience!
Outstanding ambiance in a beautiful and ornate room with piano in the back ground. Wonderful service by staff. Very polite and professional. Very good selection of teas. Good selection of sandwiches and sweets. The only part I was not happy with was when it came to replenishing the sandwiches, we were kept waiting half an hour and when they arrived, only one set was served when we were a party of three (vegetarians - which was mentioned at booking). So we were kept waiting another twenty minutes. This led to a delay in being served our sweets. Which we felt we had to rush to eat and missing out on trying another tea selection as we had another engagement to attend. We were there for two and a half hours, which normally would be plenty of time were it not for the 'waiting' time in between. Other than this, Hotel Cafe Royal is a beautiful venue for Afternoon Tea.
Surroundings were opulent, service impeccable! Food was amazing except the scones were more like thick biscuits. .....my only complaint. Would go again.
Amazing for dietary requirements :) Great value for money!
Fab-u-lous! What a special setting, loved it!
First off the chairs used in this room are suitable for children in height and very low to the floor and quite uncomfortable. Service started out good, but then declined. Had to ask for more tea. Quality of sandwiches were nothing special
The room is beautiful. The service is perfect - attentive, accommodating, and also friendly. The food and drink were festive and tasty. It’s just really expensive. Two of us had champagne, 30 g. caviar, a bottle of still water, and the afternoon tea. It was almost £300. When you think about what you’re actually getting it’s not really justifiable. I think it would be fair play for them to offer complimentary water and refills of champagne. This alone added about £40 to our bill. Still, it is a lovely place and I suppose for a *very* special occasion I would go again.
What a truely wonderful experience from the moment you enter the room nothing is too much trouble, the sandwiches were fresh and the fillings were fully explained by Anna our server, tea was plentiful and freshly refilled. The orange jelly to cleanse your taste buds was exquiste and then they brought out the cakes and pastries. We were in heaven such wonderful flavours. Upon leaving we were given a goody bag of even more of the lovely treats. What an experience
We had a most gracious and personable waitress called Hollie during my husband's birthday celebrations on 11 October 2019. Hollie was invaluable to our experience and made everything worthwhile with her well educated manners and knowledge of her work. We sat in the Oscar Wilde table which had a fantastic view of the entire elegant room. Food could have been a little better, but it the overall was enjoyable. We definitely recommend this place to anyone who values traditional elegant architecture, history and decor. It's lovely. It's London at its best.
My mom and I went here for tea and it was amazing. The sandwiches and dessert were fantastic, and they brought us as much as we wanted. Same with the tea- plenty of options and unlimited. The room was beautiful, the pianist was wonderful, and the staff was delightful. Would definitely recommend!
The service here is impeccable, especially Marion. He pours champagne like it’s an art form. The pianist is probably one of the best in London, and adds so much to the atmosphere, which is already decadent af. The gilded walls and cushy couches make you feel lush and affluent. The china is dainty and beautiful. The food was decent, though I have had much better. I had to have gluten free options, which were meh (though the GF scones were pretty amazing). The rest of my group had the regular option and they seemed happy with it, but it wasn’t the “mmm this is delicious” response that we’ve had elsewhere. All in all, if you want to feel like royalty and are more in it for the ambience or the history of the room, rather than the food, go here. If you want a tasty afternoon tea, with a lot less ambience, try 108 Brasserie instead.
The entire experience was just perfect. The young lady (April) who looked after my wife and I was just wonderful. The food was exceptional. The choice of teas was exciting and varied. The lighting and accompanying pianist was just perfect. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wishes to celebrate a special occasion. Great value for money.
Incredible. Beautiful surroundings. Impeccable service by knowledgable and very friendly staff. Lovely creative food. Made special by playing happy birthday and giving my husband chocolates on a plate saying happy 60th. Thank you thoroughly recommended.
Best afternoon we ever had. Excellent Service.
We booked dairy free in advance and all was prepared special for us. Where Do you get such a Service?
Take away of what you are Not able to eat possible
Most delicious, most wonderful and enjoyable afternoon. We all liked it immensely and the food and presentation, including the service was exceptional. Will come again! No doubt
I attended Afternoon Tea at the Hotel Cafe Royal with a friend as part of a two day break in London. We enjoyed the experience overall. I made the booking having looked at various venues as the October offer of a free glass of champagne was available. Our only complaint would be that the staff although very polite and attentive initially, became a little haphazard as the tea room and service became busier. we did have to ask for one cake to be exchanged as a small fly was in the room, and landed on the cake. however this was done immediately.
A lovely afternoon tea.
