   the opus one bar was very good value for money. the staff were exceptional, very friendly , smartly dressed and well mannered .would definitely visit again

   Been here quite a lot now and it never dissapoints. Great food very welcoming and pleasant staff. Lovely ambience and good drinks. What more could you want. Lovely romantic place great for that special occasion. Highly recommended .

   Last time tried Opus One for the gentleman's afternoon tea it wasn't very good and they had changed the menu, but thought we would give it another try as we like the surroundings, but it was the same again. The food was cold and no chunky sandwiches though it was served on a three tier cake stand and not just one plate as before. Come on guys it used to be amazing so try and get it back to perfection. We will be first in the queue :-)

   We came for birthday afternoon tea with my 8 week old baby. It was a real treat... a step away from nappies and toddlers! From the moment we stepped through the door the staff were very attentive and looked after us to a really high standard. The atmosphere, service and food were first class. They even noted the birthday celebration and came out with a birthday plate with strawberries and chocolate brownies. I would definitely recommend... in particular the gentlemans afternoon tea.

   Excellent food , interestingly cooked. Ambience a bit confused, and bar folk rather noisy.

   Distinctly underwhelmed by my afternoon tea experience. I have had afternoon teas in many venues throughout central Manchester and was expecting something really special from this 5* hotel but the experience was distinctly...ordinary. My companion had the traditional afternoon tea but with a glass of champagne for £29.95 as she was celebrating her 70th birthday. She got four fancy cakes,two scones with a dollop of clotted cream and a mini jar of strawberry jam and three finger sandwiches. I went for something different - the gentleman's afternoon tea for £20.95. This comprised a mini chicken burger, a mini battered fish with two chunky chips and some tartar sauce, a small, round,soggy pastry pulled pork pie, the same two scones, cream and jam and a small baked Camembert with two Melba toasts and some strange mixture of crumbly Lancashire cheese and chutney smeared over what tasted like foccacia bread. Be warned this is another place that automatically adds on a "discretionary" 10% service charge, which I felt particularly peeved about paying because we sat in the part of the restaurant on the Peter Street side where you can have passersby gawk at you while you are eating but unfortunately is out of view of the waiter's station, so if you need their attention, you either get up and go to them or you wait until they pop their head in - and then you've got to be quick to grab their attention. All the above plus service charge came to £55.99. Maybe worth it to the fashionistas of which there were none on the day. But for me,no. I doubt whether I'll go back. I'm more likely to recommend the Sculpture Hall Cafe in the Town Hall - bags of character, extremely comfortable with attentive staff and a better selection of interesting, local food. And a lot cheaper !!

   We had afternoon tea, we tried the traditional and the gentleman's both were superb, especially the gentleman's as the menu was different from the one I had seen the previous week our's had the mini fish and chips. Will definitely be going back again, the staff were very friendly especially our Spanish waitress.

   We visited as a group of 5 for afternoon tea. I would advise to book in advance as we did as it was very popular. Afternoon tea was lovely, some of us had traditional afternoon tea and some the gentleman's afternoon tea. Both we felt we're really good value and quality was great. Beautiful building and set in a very nice hotel. Would definitely try again.

    I love Opus one for Afternoon tea the staff are really pleasant and not intrusive but are there if you want extra tea. It is quite pricey but the food quality is very good and compares with other hotels afternoon teas. I also like the fact you can have alternative Gentleman's afternoon tea. The reason it only got 3 stars for ambience was it was very quiet and not many in but it was only 2 days into the New Year
