Tea at the Bath Spa hotel was supposed to be a treat. All in all it was awful. We were seated at a table in the ?Orangery. We were seated at the table closest to the door to what appeared to be a kitchen and it was in dire need of some oil and squeaked every time someone went through it. The other side of the door was black with mould or dirt and did not inspire confidence. The waiter had his shirt tails hanging out, porters were trundling past us with suitcases and people in bathrobes and slippers were walking back and forth. The tea pots arrived at 3.10 pm. Some 20 minutes later the fizz was served. By the time the tea stands arrived it was 3.50 and the tea was cold. The waiter disappeared and was not seen again. There was no jug of hot water. The white bread was doughy and the brown bread little better. The sandwich selection was uninspired- if I wanted a cheese and onion sandwich I would have had a meal deal from Tesco and I never found any chicken in the Coronation chicken sandwich. The scones were OK but the jam was from a jar. It was tasteless and jelly like and did not contain any fruit. If anyone from the hotel reads this then Waitrose or M and S does a good range of conserves. The cakes were not pleasant for the most part. The macaron was obviously bought in and a tartlet with a very unappetising bright orange dome was encompassed in a very a soggy pastry case. This was not a wonderful experience- far from it! The restaurant was shabby with scuffed skirting boards and a good layer of dust. If you are considering booking here my advice would be to not do it. I am £110.81 worse off and have a bitter taste in my mouth. I wish I had read others comments and reviews prior to booking. I did email the hotel but no response has been forthcoming.

I want to love this experience; I really do. But the thing about afternoon tea: it's a meal. The location, ambiance, service - all takes a back seat to the quality of the food. At least, that's my perspective. And when my wife leaves half of her portion eaten, that's a mark of a sure miss. The wait staff was outstanding and the setting was very nice. However, this meal cost us more than what we paid for dinner at a Michelin restaurant a few nights later. Perhaps I don't fully appreciate the concept of afternoon tea. Perhaps we didn't linger and chat for hours whilst enjoying and snacking on whimsical treats. Perhaps we got off on the wrong food by characterizing this as a meal rather than as an experience. Perhaps. Note to proprietor: the scones were probably the biggest letdown. They were sweet and cupcakey...

Distinctly average. Basic sandwiches, scones that had way too much vanilla added. Cheap and flavourless jam. Pastries were okay but didn't look handmade. Dining room was too big, with no atmosphere, as only a handful of tables being used. You'll be better to opt for the lounge. More comfortable and intimate.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know where we can improve. We strive to deliver exceptional quality in our afternoon tea offerings, so it’s disappointing to hear that elements of our menu, particularly the sandwiches, scones, and jam, did not reflect the high standards we aim for. We are actively reviewing our recipes and sourcing to ensure every item is flavorful and fresh. Thank you again for your valuable insights. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for a warmer, more enjoyable experience. Warm regards, Management

Great experience with attentive staff. A total surprise when our waiter brought out 2 pieces of chocolate cake with a birthday candle, on a plate with Happy birthday piped on it, for my husband. It was a great surprise. He also had a complimentary glass of champagne! Would recommend this venue as one of the best.
