This is our 2nd time and we were again thrilled with the attentive service and truly delicious food. My husband was wantin their great hamburger and they were out of beef so instead at our request they gave him a Ahi Burger. He loved it along with onion rings. I had their special of the evening which was also Ahi served with great chunky mashed potatoes and lovely vegetables. I love how they also make chunky veggies. The sauce was Mango chutney. Another guest had chicken piccata with 2 huge pieces and the other Carbinara which he said was the best ever!!!
I think this will be our go to place when we come down here.
We liked that the piano player kept it soft enough so we did not need to strain to talk.
Our waiter was very attentive and let us try the wine before ordering.
On our annual girls trip we had an amazing dinner at Affina of the freshest sea bass and clam chowder made fresh to order with tender clams in the shell. The owner and his son were gracious and charming and the live piano music the perfect accompaniment to the great evening. We were so happy we had experienced Affina!
Andres made our dining experience so enjoyable. His Dad is the executive chef and together they treat you like a part of their family. The menu is inventive and they have a small curated wine list to compliment it. Highly recommend trying it out!
Great night out with my girl! The team at Affina was amazing! From the Oaxacan chef to all the servers they are tuned for customer service! The meal was great and timely.
Very good. Great ambience
Cute and great ambiance but food was flavorless. Possibly better to go for dessert and drinks than for dinner.
Totally disappointing. It looks beautiful from the outside, but the unassuming menu really is just a charade for a staff that doesn’t know how to cook. Seems there’s no chef.
- Clam broth was separated.
- Burger came TOTALLY raw; inedible.
- Chicken Piccata was some sort of BBQ concoction that was so salty my mouth puckered with the first bite.
- Poutine was melted cheese and bacon on top of fries.
The restaurant was empty; granted it was a Thursday (in summer) evening, but if that doesn’t indicate something awry, I don’t know what does.
No, absolutely not. There is no ambience, the food is mediocre, the menu options were. If you are looking for a trendy Italian place, you would probably want to avoid an establishment that serves "chicken bites". The ambience and decor are the worst aspects, whoever put this place together must have been a friend of the owner.
Our server was very nice and attentive, so I feel bad to write a poor review. However, with the abundance of great options in Carmel, nobody should ever waste time dining at Affina.
Service was slow. My pasta was greasy. Vegetarian options did not have a protein associated with them. Music was fantastic and the ambience saved the occasion, but the food is really meh...
Great food, very professional service and amazing piano playing and singing from a very impressive 15 year old.
Amazing food! Great service! Beautiful music!
The fried chicken was not as expected, just a processed chicken breast.
The pasta was nice portion and good tasting.
Overall a nice place but many other choices make this spot a lower choice.
The claims were not “Manila” claim. The claim broth was overly salty. The chicken piccata had and odd texture. I asked for bread but it was never delivered. It could be that the music was so loud the waiter didn’t understand my request. There were only 2 tables with customers and the piano vocalist was way too loud for the size of the restaurant. No microphone was necessary.
Food was great, wine was decent, server was rude and arrogant.
I was told this place had great atmosphere and music everyday but when I went for my birthday Friday night there was no music and nothing special for my Birthday. I was just a little disappointed with ambiance and food.
We had a delicious dinner at Affina. They had a child's menu and that was great since our eight year old granddaughter would not have been able to eat a large portion of food. The many appetizers were delicious, including bacon-wrapped chicken and great soup. The tagliarini bolognese was also excellent.
Farm to table. Excellent flavors. Everything so fresh. Special attention. Wonderful meal.
It was a wonderful restaurant, the only drawback was when the pianist started playing it was very loud for the small space. It made it very hard to carry on a conversation.
Very good food.
Food wasn’t very good for the price.
The piano player was way too loud. To the point that we were annoyed and had to try to block it out.
Menu online is not split out into lunch and dinner so the menu was different when we got there. Overall the food was ok, things looked like they came from a package. I had the chicken sandwich and the chicken was dry, the fries looked like they came from a package. However, our waiter and the rest of the staff was really nice and fast.
The food is the highlight. The decor of the restaurant is just OK. Our server was very good but I noticed at the table next to us that the person clearing the table, stacked three plates in front of one of the guests, before removing. It would upgrade the service if each finished plate was removed separately and not stacked up at the guests table setting. A more polished experience.
Piano player was delightful and adds ambience.
Setting was nice and the food & wine was delicious!
At the end of the meal, the chef came to clear our table. At that moment, two small cockroaches ran across the table towards my son and I and then ran along the edge of the table and then underneath.
This app says opens 5:00, but door opened 5:30
I recently dined at Affina for my 26th birthday and felt compelled to leave a review on how great the experience was.
The restaurant is cozy, modern, and in a perfect spot in downtown Carmel. It's the perfect mix between casual and elegant. Andreas, our guide for the evening, was energetic, fun, and knowledgeable - he gave us excellent service despite a very full dining room and many other tables to attend to.
We started with the burrata which was very fresh and delicious. I had the carbonara and my girlfriend had the steak. The carbonara had one of the better sauces I've ever tasted on any carbonara and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The steak was also well cooked and came with its own delightful sauce with tasty side veggies that had a very distinctive, original cook and flavor. Two common dishes that the chef put a refreshing and flavorful take on.
Mark the piano player took the evening to the next level by leading the restaurant in singing a happy birthday for me. This might embarrass some so know that my girlfriend specifically asked for this and not only did Mark accommodate her request, he was gracious, genuine, and professional about it. The little things like Mark's personal touch are what made the meal, night, and restaurant so memorable.
I've dined at a lot of restaurants in Carmel, where there are many fine ones, and Affina was among the best dining experiences I've had.
Thank you Affina!
Excellent veggie plate
delicious food and wine!
We were lured in by the owner with promises of delicious food and live music. The music never materialized, the food was only so-so, and the service turned sour as soon as we voiced disappointment in what was listed on the menu as beet salad but was actually a green salad flanked by a few thin half-moons of beet. Altogether, it was a less than happy experience.
Service not good, inattentive. Food sub par.
We enjoyed our pre-Big Sur International Marathon dinner; however, the food was not that special and so we felt a bit overpriced. Smoked salmon crostini were delicious. Boneless chicken dish was dry and overcooked. Creme Brulee dessert was not prepared properly. The entire dish had been warmed in an oven and the normally crips brulee was carmel-gooey and top 1/4"of custard was like hard boiled egg yolk. Service was excellent. Live piano music is a plus.
Limited menu executed poorly. Location and live jazz are good, although many restaurants in Carmel are offering some form of entertainment now. Open table availability suggests others think the same......
There are so many good choices in Carmel it's hard to go wrong, so I decided to try somewhere we hadn't been before. Sadly, Affina was a big disappointment.
The menu is small, but that can be a good thing. We had the cauliflower starter and the poutine. Under cooked french fries is never a good sign, we should have been warned.
For entrees we chose the seasonal vegetables and I played it safe with the bolognese. It's fall so the stores are full of interesting vegetables, but we got cauliflower, again, and not much else. My bolognese was thin, oily and had a strange metallic taste. We had time for dessert, so we ordered the creme brulee which was lumpy and broken.
We had 3 courses of unimaginative, poorly executed food, a glass of wine and two coffees and the bill came to just under $100.
The service was fast and friendly. There was interesting live music and the place was pretty busy with a good atmosphere.
If the food was even reasonable this could be a good alternative to the usual Carmel favorites, but I can't forgive food this bad. We won't be going again.
Ate here last minute while in Carmel for the evening. Broth in clam dish had no evidence of lemongrass, tamarind or Thai herbs. Very bland (tasted like plain chicken broth) and clams were overdone. Waiter was nice enough to remove from bill. Presentation of burrata dish was underwhelming. Just chunks of burrata strewn across plate. Toast was so garlicky that it overwhelmed the wine. Also had to send fries back because first batch was undercooked. Too bad because Affina has a cool, casual atmosphere with music and good service.
We booked a reservation for breakfast and arrived to find the restaurant closed!!!! We all almost missed flights.
Enjoyed our brunch omelets & "bottomless mimosas!"
Unbelievable find in Carmel. On a backstreet and amazing food, service and live music. A very memorable experience. N
Probably one of the neatest culinary discoveries this year. The food and ingredients are first class and superbly presented. Intriguing wine list. Excellent service, with Luis the chef and Andres as our server it was perfect.
Wish them all success, apart from anything else we want to return as often as we can when in Carmel.
Affina has become my favorite restaurant in Carmel. The food is always fresh and flavorful, and the servers are attentive and friendly. The piano music adds to the ambience.
Food was well prepared. Atmosphere was fun and energetic. Terrific service in a casual environment. Highly recommended
