Affäre Ratings and Reviews
Service was a little off in timing (wine pairings were late and required reminders...we were there over an hour before entrees were served and we filled up on pretzels- that we had to ask for)...but we understand it was restaurant Week and quite busy. Just not what we’ve come to expect. And the food quality on the limited menu was definitely not the best we’ve experienced there either.
Restaurant week visit. First course: Veggies were good, albeit unexpectedly cool. Clam chowder was excellent. Main course: Seafood risotto was very good, although skimpy on the seafood. Pork was tasty, but tough and chewy. Dessert: Strudel and bread pudding both good, but unremarkable.
Excellent! Had never been to this restaurant before and thoroughly enjoyed it. A very pleasant waiter, endless mimosas and bloody Marys, and great live music from A La Mode. Best eggs Benedict I ever had. The only thing I would change is a little softer volume on the live music during brunch, although we thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Both German and American cuisine options, highly recommend.
This place is just amazing! The is fresh and delicious, and the restaurant does an extraordinary job with presentation and uniqueness. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. One of my absolute favorite places to eat, and not just in KC but in all my travels.
Although we have eaten here many times in the past, tonight was a very substandard experience. It took us 3 hours to be served our meal and pay the bill, which was inexcusable as the restaurant was not crowded. We invited friends who have not been here before, and I was embarrassed. Since the bill for four people to have appetizers, dinner, and drinks was around $250, I think we deserved better service.
My wife, parents and I went for Xmas dinner and were unimpressed. The hostess was rude and indifferent. No greeting, no "hi, welcome to Affare" not even a "happy holidays". I suppose she wasn't happy about having to work on Xmas. Hello it is the service industry, if you want holidays and weekends off Do something else. Our waitress was polite but offered no salesmanship. For example: can I get you another beer? Would you like wine with your dinner? Care to try some port with your dessert? And before I could order an espresso to cap the evening off the check was dropped without an offer for anything else. The food was ok but not worth the price of the prix fix menu. I chose this restaurant based on the menu of German dishes and was excited to try them all, however, all they offered was a set menu. There was no mention or warning of this on their website which seemed a bit lazy. There were many nice restaraumts open on Xmas night and I regret choosing this one.
We had Christmas dinner here. Their prix fixe menu was excellent and the presentation and preparation was top notch. The restaurant was well populated but the noise level was low. They had great recorded jazz music playing the in the background. We appreciate they have a way to get into the place if one is not very mobile. We look forward to coming back often in the New Year.
Our family dined at Affare on Christmas Eve. The food and ambiance was wonderful. In addition to excellent traditional German food, they serve top notch steaks. They also serve several unique cocktails which are very good.
Limited parking is the only negative aspect of dining at the Affare . If you are not fortunate, to get a one of a limited number of parking spots on Main St, you must park in one of two available garages 1-2 blocks away from the restaurant. However, this minor drawback will not deter me from returning. I recommend new diners call the restaurant in advance so you know where the parking areas are located prior to arrival.
Absolutely amazing! From the ease and explanations of planning our reservations to the end of the meal we were blown away. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and are genuinely glad to care for you while there. The food is absolutely amazing, my husband had the steak and my scallops are some of the best I’ve had. We will definitely be back and look forward to sharing this experience with friends and family.
We love Affare. The food is creative, beautifully presented, and really, really good. The wine list is quite good and the beer selection is superb. The interior is very nice and even when crowded you can still have a conversation at the table. The wait staff is superb - very professional and personable. We love Affare.
Brunch was amazing! The food was so delicious and the service was ready! We went for brunch and they offer 10.00 bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary’s. They had a live singer and keyboard player during our brunch which was very nice. Everything was high quality and top notch and the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I can’t wait to go back and try something else. I had the brat trio and all three were delicious.
We'd just attended a company awards banquet Friday evening, and were so pleased with the excellent service that we returned for Sunday brunch with a relative visiting from out of town.
While the brunch was good, it didn't stand out as Friday evening had. Perhaps we chose the wrong items, but the bison burger disappointed with bbq sauce flavor, the choice of \ eggs scrambled and breakfast sausage was ok but heavy. Maybe adding some lighter and healthier options too would make a more appealing brunch for us
Ordered smoke infused salad. Poor choice on our part. When asked if we enjoyed the salad, we said no.......and the server noticeably lept back and placed his hand on his chest. Throughout the remainder of the meal, he was rude. I thought he was going to throw a glass of water at me. Our choice was not his fault, but his manners were appalling. The German food itself was fair. The restaurant itself was lovely, quiet, and well set out. The maitre d' was very nice and very caring of his facility. We would not recommend Affare.
