Adesso Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I love Adesso Bistro. I've been often and bring friends. I also take my 99 year old mother who has dietary restrictions and a walker - they accommodate both. They're always so nice. On top of which, I'm a vegetarian. It's so nice for me to be able to go to a restaurant and find not one, but a few vegetarian dishes, that aren't just pasta with tomato sauce. There's a cauliflower risotto that I love and even my meat eating friends have adopted!
We came for cocktails and dessert at 8:45pm. Our server was clearly angry that we weren’t ordering dinner. The restaurant was NOT full and we told the hostess we weren’t having dinner before we sat down. Due to our servers clear disgust at our order of cocktails we decided to only have one cocktail and not order dessert. I would recommend everything except her service. Not friendly. Not welcoming. Not endearing me to return.
We were brought to the inner end of the restaurant near the kitchen, and when the staffer walked past the kitchen my chair felt shaky. Well we were then re-seated somewhere else, but the initial impression was not good. Everything is a bit salty, nothing has a wow factor. The only good thing is the cozy setting, which is kind a waste together with the less than impressive food.
We chose this restaurant because we had enjoyed it very much on a visit to Vancouver in March 2017. We were disappointed on this return visit. We understand the restaurant has new owners. The gluten free menu is limited; several of the wine selections were not available; the particular server we had was not helpful or attentive. The bus staff member was pleasant and attentive. There was a tour group of 24 or so -- so the noise level was higher than usual.
The old owners (management) made this great pizza fungi. It’s really the deciding factor on whether or not I return. The new management still has the pizza on the memu; however, the oven was no working the night I went or the night prior. No one thought about phoning me to inform me; Nor did the staff tell me until it was time to order. At 7:15 on a Saturday night is it easy finding a good restaurant without reservations? No it’s not and unfortunely I had no other option but to stay. While the food is excellent and the staff is friendly....I expect a higher lever of customer service from a boutique bistro. While I left a average 20% tip...I was deeply disappointed Adesso bistro didn’t value my repeated patronage by informing me prior to my arrival that the kitchen was not fully functioning and thereby giving me an option of making other arrangements or ti

This place has new owners, and it was a big disappointment. We used to love this place, but now the menu is way smaller, tons of wines weren't available, no more valet parking (which is necessary for handicap patrons in the West End), and my food was SO SALTY (and normally I love salty food). Won't be coming back, unfortunately.
We booked Adesso for a b-day celebration and our table was very satisfied with the food , the server was very knowledgeable about the wine and menu. The overall experience was excellant and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The salmon and ling cod were fresh and done to perfection. These dishes would be welcomed by the vegetarian crowd, however not sure about the gluten free options. In short it was an intimate dining experience and we would go back again for another special occasion.
We chose Adesso based on Open Table and TripAdvisor reviews. We were a little skeptical when we turned onto a residential street with no other commercial establishments. Doubts were somewhat erased once we walked through the door and were shown to our table.
Any lingering doubts evaporated once we tasted our dishes. The mussels were incredible as was the Bolognese Pappardelle. Personal, friendly service was the order of the day.
Terrific experience would not hesitate to return or recommend!
Great setting, limited menu. Food was flavorful and well presented, steak was very tough. Service very slow at the beginning which is frustrating and sets the tone for the rest of the evening. Get a drink in our hands and we're happy.....but make us wait 15 minutes spoils the fun.
We did warm up to our waitress by the end though. Need to have a better bar seating area....we like to start with a drink at the bar. Reservation system gave the impression the place was packed. It was the opposite. We wanted 7 could only book for 8. We arrived 730 and the place was almost empty
We go here every time we are in Vancouver. The location is in a residential area with an outdoor patio area as well as an indoor dining area. It is a real gem for the West End as it is frequented by locals and not the usual Denman tourists.
Our food was wonderful; fish was cooked perfectly, presentation was perfect. Good wine list and great service.
If you arrive early, you can take advantage of the HH and stay for your meal.
I haven't been to Adesso Bistro for a couple of years. I used to love going to that restaurant, being greeted by the owner, his wife and staff. I didn't know that it was under new ownership. It has changed unfortunately. Although the staff were courteous and affable, there were some efficiency issues.
The major disappointment was the food. We ordered the "Fritto misto" which used to be so good, an assortment of fish, deep friend in light batter. We got dried overcooked calamare!!! They tasted like cardboard. The main course was also quite ordinary. It is unfortunate, I hope that they raise the bar and improve the quality as there are a lot of good restaurants in Vancouver to choose from.
we ate twice at Adessos during our 8 day stay in Vancouver. the courtyard dining is spectacular. the fish is cooked perfectly, the antipasto plate has lovely cheese, capers, salamis. our servers were all great. this place is a gem in a quiet neighbourhood. highly recommended.
My son who lives nearby suggested we try Adesso for dinner....as I am from Kelowna, it was a great & convenient choice. The menu & wine choice were perfect for pairing.....we enjoyed the pear salad & the lamb & bolegnese dishes & the chocolate mouse! Can't wait for my next visit to Vancouver & Adesso for dinner! The service was superb!
Mediocre experience. Food was average and a bad experience with the striploin my wife had. She thought it was rancid. I thought it might have been a dirty grill. In any case it tasted awful. To their credit they removed it from the bill. Waitstaff was ok but basically inexperienced
Won't go back
We had dinner reservations for 7pm. When we arrived we asked to sit on the patio. We were told to wait inside for a few minutes for a table to become available. (The inside is very dark and dingy feeling and probably best for a winter night vs summer). After being seated outside, it took several minutes before we were acknowledged. A waitress eventually took our drink orders then about 5 minutes later another waitress came by asking to take our drink order. Our drinks took a while but we're tasty when they arrived. Our waitress eventually came back to the table for our food order. She advised us to order all courses at once and that she would stagger the courses. We started with an antipasti platter, shared a salad and ordered a main each (lamb gnocchi & spaghetti verde w/mussles). Antipasti was okay. Our salad came our about 10mins after our antipasti platter. We asked it be held...5 mins later another waitress came our to try and serve it again. It was taken away and eventually served for the third time to us. It was bland but okay. The gnocchi was a fair sized portion but had very little lamb in it. The pasta was a big disappointment. The pasta was broken and was sitting in a lot of liquid. The mussles (about 12) were good and fresh but they forgot to give me a bowl for the shells, so had to ask for it. The pasta lacked flavor and was unappetizing due to all the liquid. I ate the mussles and left the rest. I advised the first server about it and she took it away. Our waitress eventually came back to the table and I let her know about the pasta too. She apologized and took it off our bill and offered me something else but I declined. The service was not very good and seemed disorganized like no one was communicating with each other. We also were not provided with the baked bread nor were we asked if we wanted any cheese for the pastas or offered any salt and pepper. Beautiful patio but poor service and subpar food. Probably won't go back for dinner.
Glad the other restaurant was booked! I originally tried to get a reservation at another highly rated Italian restaurant nearby and as it turned out I'm glad it was all booked up. This is great northern Italian cuisine and everything was expertly prepared. Claire our server was excellent and paired wines perfectly. We only had this one night in Vancouver but I'll be back to Adesso next time we're in town.
The restaurant must have new owners in the last year as the ambience has changed, not bad, just different and not what we expected. We struggled a bit to understand our server, but were able to make it work. When I asked about "specials" he pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of his pocket and gave it to me. The food was really good, the pasta portion a tad small, I ordered Cornish game hen - it was a chicken, while tasty not game hen.
We had a blast with the ladies who brunch. I didn't realise when I made the reservation there was going to be 3 fun hostesses to entertain us, but it was so much fun.
The food and service were up to the usual high standards, and the patio is always special, but the vibe and inclusive fun between all patrons, staff and entertainers made for a special Pride experience. Thank-you!
We have been to adesso many times before but I think after the change in staff and ownership they are still settling in and the service has gone down drastically. The food has also taken a hit in quality. I hope it goes back to what it once was as it was one of my favourite places. I will be back to give them another chance.
This patio is fabulous and I hadn't been this summer so was excited about going. It was a beautiful evening, no disappointment there. But the kitchen here used to be outstanding. What happened? Both of us had pasta and it was overcooked and in my case clumped. Staff was terribly busy and our waitress left halfway through the meal. Someone else took over but it seemed strange.
We were seated immediately in a nice cosy corner of the outdoor garden patio . We enjoyed the cocktails that we chose from the summer cocktail menu - I don't remember the name but mine had watermelon .
This is a great setting for any occasion : girlfriends, date, family .
