It was my birthday dinner. Great service. Friendly employees. Food super.
From arrival to our final bite, the service was warm and very accommodating.
Our meal started with an amuse bouche and ended with a small sweet gift to take with us.
Every course was wonderful and many surprises came along the way as additional tasty bites. Because of the current virus fear the dining room wasn’t filled yet in normal times I’m sure reservations would be difficult to get....the food was very good.
I would certainly recommend Adega to anyone.
I am Portuguese, having grown up with Portuguese food. I have traveled to Portugal and eaten that the restaurants there, both regular places and fine restaurants. I am a new resident to the city of San Jose, and wanted to try out some Portuguese restaurants. I was hoping for traditional dishes at Adega. Instead, I got modern interpretations of traditional Portuguese dishes, at very expensive prices.
The ambiance was nice, the wall decorations were artistic and well displayed, and the service was attentive and friendly; that part was a good experience. However, the main reason for my visit, the food, was not very impressive. And at the end of the dinner for two, the bill plus 15% tip was $280.
In the future, if I want to impress a date, I might return to Adega. However in the meanwhile, I will try the other Portuguese restaurants in the area.
Loved it. Can with some of my monthly dinner group and each one had a fabulous experience and will return.
Beautiful food but some dishes work to my taste more than others.
Everything was great. My husband and I have been twice before and loved it. We brought my in laws and while everything was fantastic and tasted great, the service didn't seem to flow as smoothly as it did in the past. Again, nothing wrong! But maybe there was longer than usual pauses between courses. We will continually come here though!
Very much enjoyed ourselves and every bite!
Adega was a very authentic and delicious experience from cocktails to dessert. We highly recommend you to try the Pasteis de Bacalhau and the Caldo verde, as well as the Bacalhau as mais course and the Rabanada for dessert. Chef also provides many small dishes degustation opportunities. We will be back!
I had high expectations for Adega but was really disappointed by the quality of the food.
The restaurant looks much better from the inside than what you would expect from the neighborhood.
The food is ok, but totally overpriced.
51$ for an octopus dish with some spinach and baby potatoes roasted in the oven is definitely not worth it...
If you want amazing octopus for half the price, you should try Odeum in Morgan Hill.
Their food is much better and a lot cheaper.
Not going back to ADEGA.
Wife and I went for our 45th Anniversary of our first date. From the moment we walked in until we left it was a fantastic experience. Food, service, and ambiance all five star rated.
Thank you ADEGA for making our night perfect.
Was disappointed with the food. Service was pleasant, but slow. I am quite surprised they earned a Michelin Star.
My wife and I went there for a Valentine's Day dinner. We had the 10 course special dinner with wine pairing.
First of all, the food and service were excellent.
I am not a fan of "small plates at big prices", and the 10 course dinner was exactly that. I do not know if ordering entrees instead of the 7 or 10 course dinner would have resulted in normal sized portions, but avoid the 7 or 10 course dinner if you want to get any actual food.
The biggest problem was the price. It was exorbitantly expensive and in no way worth the price. The special 10 course menu said it was $225 per person, which is a lot, but OK for a high end restaurant. But, the wine pairing added $195 per person, and I don't think that was priced on the menu. So, with tax and tip, it ended up being over $1,000 for two people. I have never encountered that kind of bill, even in Manhattan. No way was this dinner worth $500 per person.
So, due to the price vs value, I do not recommend this restaurant.
Amazing stone soup oxtail and the ham was very on point. Every course was delicious
We very much enjoyed ourselves. Everything is good, as long as you can afford the outsized price!
The service could be improved.
We loved the creative options and the new spin on traditional Portuguese food. Everything was amazing and we will recommend to all of our family and friends.
My wife and I each selected the chef’s tasting menu. We also added the premium wine pairing. Dinner for two with tip was $900. For the most part the food was good the wine was also good but a little bit too many whites. Overall it was probably worth about half the price.
Such a treat! We ordered off the a la carte menu and everything was perfect. I’d recommend the jamon iberico and the steak entree, which is served on a salt block.
The service was very good, the ambience a bit bustling. The food was good with the main course very well executed.
I wish the dishes were not so salty, more vegetables, and fresh herbs
Thanks so much to each person that works so hard to deliver such a humble elegant ambiance, menu and service.
All the Best to Adega and its Personal.
Exceeded our expectations & inspired us to take a trip to Portugal! Art was beautiful and ALL servers were amazing. Fabulous way to begin our silver wedding anniversary year! Cheers and we will dine there again
A great dining experience but if you want something ultra casual the menu is available at the bar.
Good food, and really good service
A very pleasant experience. Great service. We did the 7 course tasting menu and we were suprised with every course that was served to our table. We look forward to going back.
Great food and great service.
Best Portuguese restaurant in the US. Excellent food nicely integrated with generous wine pairings served by a charming and knowledgeable young lady from the Azores. We had the Premium pairings which included fantastic Portuguese wines
I think they would be way more successful if they just offered a la carte options. The tasting menu in my opinion commands much better execution which unfortunately was not the case. The soups were generally tasty but universally cold. Fish and seafood were handled better than meats. On the house sampling was probably one of the best parts (sardine puree and desserts were excellent).
The winners of the night for me were rice with mushrooms, octopus, desserts (except flan).
Champagne at the beginning and sparkling wine at the end were very good.
Staff is super friendly and they are trying very hard but service is a bit slow so the whole experience gets to be a bit too long.
I would go back. I would not order tasting menu.
The food and service was great. Looking back I should have provided more for gratuity. I will definitely be back in the future and provide the well deserved amount for gratuity to make for this past time.
Best restaurant in San Jose, and I have been to all of the high-end ones.
Amazing dinner! Best food I've had since I lived in Belgium. Truly good food that tastes like what it is...
Sure, I've had good food in other places, but nothing this authentic, real or flavorful. We both had the 3-course dinner with several "compliments" from the chef.
His "sardinha" starter stands out with its amazing fresh pepper flavors as it was bedded on red and yellow pepper soup.
My main was the oven roasted octopus - cooked to perfection, tender and sweet and not the least bit chewy. He had the duck breast. Again, perfectly cooked, sweet and tender.
All the "compliments" were delightful, especially the slice of almond cake with beautiful calligraphy for his birthday.
The extensive wine list is amazing (albeit a bit pricey) and educational (especially if like me you know nothing about Portuguese wines).
Anyone who loves good food really should go (often)!
Just LOVE this restaurant. They never disappoint. The food, the flare and the overall ambience is great!
Everything was perfect from start to finished. The staff was friendly and was a pleasure the entire time. Hats off to the chefs because the food was amazing.
Delicious...every single bite!! The staff was so friendly and our dinner was relaxed not rushed!
Adega was wonderful! Superb service and the food was incredible! I don’t know why they lost there star but they should have it back! I have been to New York and San Francisco’s Quince that is a 3 Michelin star restaurant but the service there and food wasn’t on par with Adegas. Loved it and look forward to going again!
The food was excellent and we got more than expected. Every one of us agree this is a good restaurant. The wine list from Portugal is rather impressive. And the service is attentive. We will recommend this restaurant to others.
Everything about Ageda was amazing. Ah the food.....so delicious! This restaurant is just fabulous and a must go to.
One of the top restaurants to eat in San Jose. If you want a food experience and ambiance this is the place to go. We will be back.
