Permanently Closed - AD LIB

Booked through open table, got a confirmation. Open table sent me email to reconfirm reservation the day before and I confirmed it again. Went there for a special occasion and it was closed, no notice, no call, no nothing. As far as I am concerned, the place if off the list and should not be recommended to a enemy.

We arrived on time to a notice that it was closed for renovation and will reopen next year. Happily, we found another open restaurant nearby!

We arrived and the restaurant was closed. Just a typed card in the window that they would be reorganizing. They should have taken thei reservations off open table.

This is a concept restaurant, so not open year round. They will be opening again in 4 months with an Asian flair. Will definitely be looking out for this.

I would solely recommend AD LIB if they change, or better train, those working at the front of the restaurant (i.e. the hostess). I believe a hostess sets the stage from the very minute a customer enters a restaurant, and the hostess working at this restaurant was very unwelcoming, from the second we entered the restaurant, till the moment we left. Her attitude was horrid, and she was not competent in accommodating guests around already scheduled reservations. The rest of the staff, including the manager, were all superb, but the hostess really overshadowed the majority of our dining experience. Even upon exiting she made sure to make it uncomfortable and unnecessarily difficult to receive our leftovers that were left with her while we finished our meal. I would not return if I saw she was still working the front.

Wife’s Birthday

Great food and service, a nice take on some classics such as Tuna Tartare, nice location and acceptable prices in the expensive side of hip. Had out of town friends that were really impressed. Will be back!

Service was impeccable. The crafty cocktails were amazing. We ordered off the Miami Spice menu. It was decent. The salmon was cooked fresh, but I’ve tasted better. The table crackers, Lavash, were a little burnt. The crispy chicken dish was prepared nicely. Overall it was a good meal. However, not sure I’d go back. Was expecting something more creative. It was solid dining though. Not a bad choice.

Amazing food and service. Our server unfortunately I couldn’t pronounce her name correctly but I know it begin with an was amazing. We were there on a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy but the service was very personalized. She had a lot of expertise about wine as well as the food that is being served. This is definitely a first class restaurant.

this was my second visit at Ad Lib and it confirmed my impression that this is a great restaurant.
the menu is short which is a guarantee of super fresh ingredients. the dishes are modern and clean tasting. the decor is bright and light, in very good taste but not pretentious. the staff is poised and the correct amount of friendly. sophisticated and unpretentious. really a great venue in Coral Gables.

Amazing cocktail list. Food was outstanding, the summer squash salad, chicken with red mole and arctic char were sublime. Their bar is one of the best in coral gables, possibly miami.

My party of 4 all very much enjoyed the Miami Spice menu with the wine pairing option. The semelier was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging and the highlight of the evening. We will certainly be back and recommend Ad Lib to all.

Gorgeous atmosphere, food and service at this Coral Gables location. Feels like a NYC restaurant. Definitely going back!

Eclectic imaginative menu. While somewhat limited in menu items, there is something to please everyone. Root vegetables run throughout the menu in tastes and forms that are a delight. Great service great sommelier. The big negative? Price. It’s hard to imagine making ad lib a regular habit unless you can afford to drive a Ferrari.

We had a great experience. We started with a cocktail at the bar and the bartender was really personable and knowledgeable about the menu. The staff kept our table clean and folded the napkins. The flavors were amazing and we enjoyed every dish. We will definitely return!

This was our first visit. The menu is not extensive but it is of high quality and very creative. My wife had the pork chop and I had the salad. Both dishes were excellent. The portion size was perfect. The desserts were delicious. I had the Chocolate Tart and my wife had the Strawberry Pavlova. Their wine selection is very good with a wide range of wines from around the world. We were seated promptly and service throughout the evening was excellent. They have a great ambiance. Highly recommend people try this restaurant.

Ambiance was amazing, we had great service. We did Miami Spice, the Cauliflower soup was to die for. I didn’t like my entree as much (I had gotten the salmon dish but substituted the salmon for mushrooms because I’m vegetarian).

Norman Van Aken's menu is excellent and well executed. I was disappointed the Miami Spice Menu was not available on Sunday night but the regular menu was very good. Nice wine list. I will have to call the restaurant in advance next time I plan to book.

The service was excellent. The food was far from. Half cooked Japanese Style Pancakes were gummy and salty.

Only complaint was that they were out of a lot of their menu items, but everything was great. Have been here 3 times and every time has been outstanding.

Ad Lib is a great replacement for Swine. The scallops that my wife and I had were perfect, served with elan by our server, Jose. We also had a great dessert whose name we have forgotten but it contained strawberries.

Ad Lib is a great addition to Coral Gables expanding culinary scene. We will be regulars.

Service was impeccable which is very unusual in Miami. Our server was attentive toward us throughout the duration of dinner.
We went to taste the Miami Spice menu and it was delicious. Note that the chicken with broccoli mint puree and the budino for dessert were my favorites. Incredible tasty. Thanks and keep doing what you are doing👍🏻

This restaurant offers varied and interesting food options for those looking for something different than the typical. We both tried the Neptune rum cocktail, which was very good. I would like to see more rum options as well as more wines by the glass offered. We ordered the cauliflower soup and beet salad, both excellent appetizers. My husband had the pork chop, and I had the scallops. We enjoyed both dishes. We shared the bittersweet chocolate tart for dessert, and it was divine. They still seem to be working out the kinks of service, but I would definitely come back.
