About this restaurant

Act One is a restaurant that is attached to a theater and celebrates the stage, which is where it also derives its name. The walls are decorated with photographs and props from famous plays, operas and musicals throughout history. In addition to being physically connected to a theater, Act One is located near a couple other stages, which makes it a hot spot when any productions are being put on by either local acts or touring troupes. Act One's menu is put together with American classics. Appetizers include pulled pork sliders, BBQ chicken wings, warm soft pretzels, fried calamari, Cajun tater tots and a mac and cheese with bacon and sundried tomatoes. Act One's options for meals are split between sandwiches and large plates. Some of the popular items include a pot roast with mashed potatoes and a house-made fish and chips.

Ample portions of good food, attentive service that's not intrusive. Cozy environment. But why must the hard-rock music be so darn loud?

My husband and I got married at Mayne Stage about 2 years ago. We live in the neighborhood and we always enjoy the food and service.

Its near the theatres and red line in Rogers Park, and in the same building as Mayne Stage. Good comfort food and salads along with full bar and decent wine list. Won't find better in the neighborhood.

I recently went for Act One as it seemed like an okay restaurant from the descriptions that I saw. The night we went there was no show - and there was a Cubs game - so the crowd and atmosphere was, frankly speaking, nothing but a cheesy sports bar. With four TV's, and a menu of mostly sandwiches and bar junk, it was definitely not my cup of tea for dinner. Even in the category of sports bar, the food wasn't that great.

We're enjoyed the walleye sandwich on a few occasions, and each time the food was very good+ Portions are large, and come with a side salad and slaw. Decent wine list, generous pours. Overall price: extremely good.

Food was edible but disappointing. Fish'n chips : fish was very dry, fries too much vinegar. Salmon also was dry, veggies were ok nothing special but ok. I might come back for a late night drink but not for dinner. Location was convenient to the theatre.

The staff at Act One never fails to please. Our server, Dale, was extremely pleasant and attentive, anticipating needs and making sure we were satisfied. The food's always good, and the service is great. I've never been disappointed at Act One!

After we ordered a bottle of wine, our long-suffering and excellent waitress, Samantha, returned and informed us, "We're out of pinot grigio." The only dry white alternative was an over-oaky Calif. chardonnay. After a third member of our party joined us and ordered a vodka martini with a particular brand of vodka, Sam once again had to apologize for the bar, because it was out of that brand and would Stolichnaya do? Sam's empathetic good nature got us beyond those setbacks, and the walleye was excellent, the salad entree was excellent, and the pot pie was excellent. The atmosphere is friendly, the noise level was one decibel short of "too noisy," and the rest rooms are clean.
