The cocktails we had were excellent, although the second order was slow in arriving. You have created a great looking bar area, too. You have done a pretty good job redoing the restaurant. It’s definitely more interesting and better looking. The food was between a B+ to an A-. The Bitter Caesar is great. My husband gave the Crab Salad a B+. We shared a Chanterelle Toast, which was very good. The Rotisserie Chicken was ok, but the chicken was a little dry, and I didn’t love the way the greens were served with the broth and bread. The flavor just wasn’t special. Our friend loved the Grilled Maitake Mushroom dish, however, and devoured it. We shared the Strauss vanilla ice cream over the brownie, and it was very good, although the brownie could have been fresher. I also would like to see the pizzas offered on your dinner menu. I had the fungi pizza on my first visit at lunch, and it was fantastic. All in all, we are glad to have you in the neighborhood. I was a little generous in giving you a 4 on the food, however. But, I have to say that you have trained your staff well. I appreciate that a lot because there seem to be a lot of wait staff who are not trained properly these days. Kudos to you for that.

This restaurant is … fine. Some dishes good. Some dishes not good. And most of them … fine. I wouldn’t go back again on my own, but if someone booked it for a group reservation, I wouldn’t ask them to change it.

We were disappointed. We knew that the décor and menu would be changed, but it seemed more like a downgrade from Oliveto's. A romantic space has been changed into something like an upscale luncheonette – sparse and not particularly sumptuous or comforting. The noise level is noticeably higher now too. Weren’t the new owners going to keep the noise dampening system from Oliveto’s? At the reception desk, one person was wearing an orange ski cap and looked more like they were going skateboarding rather than greeting people for an upscale restaurant. Nonetheless, both persons were pleasant and efficient. We had cocktails, wine, rolls, gnocchi, a pizza from the downstairs menu, and a mushroom entrée. We felt that menu options were limited. The food was tasty, albeit very salty (gnocchi). None of the dishes had a wow factor. The margherita pizza seemed off to me. Rather than having the distinct flavors of the marinara, mozzarella and basil, it seemed more like a generic cheese pizza that was slightly overcooked. We ordered the rolls as an “appetizer” at $8. They were OK, however, I bristle at having to pay for bread at all. Why is bread is now treated as an appetizer by some restaurants? In Italy and France, bread is generally free and bountiful with meals at all price levels. Our waiter was very good, but perhaps a bit personal in commenting on our watches, as well as wanting to shake hands. I appreciate the gesture, but in this time period, or really any time period, I’m not sure that waiters should be shaking hands with others unless they are going to thoroughly wash their hands after each such encounter. In general, Acre seemed very much like an overpriced, minimalist San Francisco dining experience geared toward younger, trendy folks. We paid nearly $200 for two people for a very average meal / ambience. I’d like to give the pizza another try again in the downstairs café, but we both said we wouldn’t return to the upstairs dining room.

Very friendly service in a brightly redecorated restaurant. Unfortunately, the food is average -- pretty good but not great, and certainly not worth the fairly high prices. It was so noisy that, throughout much of our dinner, it was hard for the 4 of us to hear the person across the table from us, and so at best we spoke loudly to the one sitting next to us. The staff seem like lovely people, but I'm in no hurry to return.

Seated promptly for a 6:15 Thursday eve res. Relative to the prior Oliveto's restaurant which occupied the space, Acre has packed in a number of additional tables, resulting is a somewhat crowded feel - which is mildly disturbing in an era of still-Covid. Once the space filled about 7 pm, it became quite noisy - made me wonder if they've removed the noise-cancelling system that Oliveto featured. And by 7:30, the space was distinctly hot - no windows opened, and the AC didn't seem up to the task. Made me wonder about air circulation.... Service was slow to get started - but then moved along too well! We ordered 2 starters, 2 entrees, and a side of fries. All 5 items came to the table at the same time! I can't imagine what the kitchen was thinking (or not). Certainly tilted the vibe of the meal. Spanish octupus was interesting dish, but parts of the octopus were very chewy. Gnocchi were tasty, and the branzino very good. The braised lamb with red polenta was mush food. Overall, food was not impressive. The Cep Pinot Noir was light and easy-drinking - but not worth the $96. Overall - I won't rush back.

Such a great addition to the restaurants in Oakland and college avenue. The restaurant decor and ambiance is beautiful. We had drinks at the bar before dinner and they have an extensive wine menu and cocktail menu. The food and service was excellent. Will definitely be back and will recommend to friends.

Upstairs is cozier and better organized than Oliveto which had great food but a formal feel. The upstairs bar plus the new arrangements of tables is more casual and festive. Our server, Stephanie, was amazing & knowledgeable and the food was great.

Acre has a brand new the interior which has been completely changed from Oliveto that is stunning. However the service was very uneven, lots of people doing different tasks, delivering, clearing, order taking, not always functioning as they should, made the restaurant seem frantic at times. The food choices are minimal, and the food didn't always seem as advertised. My salad had black all over it, seemed like pepper but wasn't. My entree was half the size of my husbands, and the polenta had something added to it that was strange also... farm to table is a new trend however it shouldn't mean that the food looks and tastes unusual.

Staff was very welcoming, and the place was comfortable, well lit, and nicely laid out. The menu was very limited, and the things that were on the menu were odd. The fish had bones, which is always a minus for me, the chicken was undercooked, and although it said rotisserie, it seem more like boiled chicken. The barata was served with nothing to spread it on and had strange items all around it that the server couldn’t describe. The crab salad was very tasty, but it was a small portion of crab and no other ingredients – not even a bit of shredded lettuce. The coconut parsnip soup really only tasted of coconut. Ordered a glass of red wine and the whole bottom was solid sediment. Plan to take the leftover chicken home but it never came back out of the kitchen even though we made it clear we wanted it. It was a very expensive meal for what we got and although it was a pleasant place I don’t think we will go back. Maybe will try again in a year and see if they have learned some lessons.

I would hold off on going to Acre until they have time to refine the food and the experience. A lot of dishes were bland or just average, although the octopus was quite bad and the lamb sugo had no flavor. They were also out of several menu items which was disappointing. Servers were nice but not very polished yet. Hoping they can make this a high quality experience eventually, but I won’t be going back until I hear it’s been elevated.

The atmosphere and food were both wonderful. It did get quite loud around 8 PM. We really enjoyed the basic salad as a starter. My friend had the chicken and I had the fish. I usually don’t order chicken when I eat out because I make it a lot at home. No joke, this was the most moist chicken I have ever tasted. Totally worth ordering chicken at this restaurant. We had the tiramisu and the ice cream for dessert and did not feel that the desserts were on par with the rest of the menu. But we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going back. The bar area also looks like a great place to eat, and didn’t seem as loud.

Basically , Acre ‘s is very good. The only disappointment was our “doggie bag” was lost. The waiter, very graciously, offered to replace it and we should wait. However, after waiting for sometime we had to remind him as he obviously forgot to place the order. Then, after opening it at home; it wasn’t what we ordered originally! Don’t worry, I think you’ll come back.

Solid start for this new restaurant w/updated decor. Cool art. Annoying to pay for bread rolls, risotto w/citrus was odd, veggies w/chicken limp and tasteless. Ham with pear serving was meager. Chicken itself was delicious. Dessert choices need expanding, maybe add a bread pudding. Menu needs a bit more warmth and flavor reliability. Will definitely come back for a drink in one of the pretty banquettes.

The remodel works very well. The food was very good, generous portions. The menu could use more choices,as could the wine menu. The service needs to be more polished - - no one 🐫 to check on how meal after it was served until I flagged down a server to ask for more wine. Prices were fair. I will return.

Acre has been open two weeks and it seems they are a work in progress. We had a dinner reservation but waited over 30 minutes for our table. We were offered eating at the bar or the downstairs cafe, but we came to experience the restaurant, so we chose to order drinks at the bar and wait. After being seated, it was another 15 minutes until the server arrived. She was very welcoming and accommodating; when told the soup was not hot, she corrected the problem. Shoestring potatoes were not hot either. When we mentioned the rotisserie chicken appeared underdone, she explained the pink color was due to the type of heirloom chicken and was properly cooked. The bitter caesar salad and the branzino were good. The dining room was full and noise level quite high. Our server’s warmth and knowledge of the menu helped make up for the shortcomings. Hopefully, things will improve with time.
