ACQUA - Forest Lake Ratings and Reviews
Acqua is a great value with the $40 3 course prix fix dinner option. We elected to take advantage of it and enjoyed our entrees, salads and desserts. The prime rib was very tender and the tiger shrimp with pasta was tasty. Cocktails were excellent as was the service. This restaurant deserves more business as the ambiance is pleasant and relaxing and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. There are so few fine dining restaurants in the northern suburbs that I certainly hope we don't lose this one.
Second time we've dined at Acqua in Forest Lake. On the whole, the food is very good. The wedge salad, the creamed shrimp appetizer, the pork shank, the chocolate soufflé -- all fine. However, the portions are too large. My companions ate less than half of their steaks and I ate less than half of my pork shank and sweet potatoes. Entrées are not served with green vegetables - these are extras.
Note to restaurant: for the price, I would have appreciated an amuse-bouche before the entrées were served.
Went to Acqua for a date, and other than delicious food, I was a bit disappointed. Even with a 7:30 reservation, my husband and I spent the whole time saying "what?" to each other, it was so loud. Our waitress even told us her thanksgiving plans but we couldn't hear a word she said. Service was decent, seemed like forever to get our drinks. Left satisfied by great food, and looking forward to trying the WBL location.
We started with a wedge salad, they make their own salad dressing. It was great. I ordered the SEA SALT prime rib, we have been to Sunshine Factory/ Russells in Big lake. This was the best by far.
My wife got the 6 oz lobster tail, she also was very pleased with it. Said the risotto was as good as she has ever had.
We drive in from Champlin, we make this trip every few months and have not been disappointed with anything we have ordered.
It is right on the lake, so nice view in summer!
I keep trying Acqua, hoping that I have a meal that makes me fall in love. My husband enjoys Acqua and I go along the food is just ok. The restaurant itself is amazingly beautiful, quintessential Minnesota lake dining. Good wine and bar selections. But the food is just ok.
This is a lovely place. You will be welcomed by the panoramic view from the wall to wall windows overlooking beautiful Forest Lake sunset. There is first come first serve outdoor seating in the summer. The service was a-one and the food was delicious. The shrimp scampi was the best we have had, so flavorful without being salty. The fillet and beet salad were great also. The vegetable beef soup was amazing, again so flavorful and not salty. It was a memorable dinner in a gorgeous setting. Can't wait to go back!
We were there on a Sunday around 1:00 for a birthday brunch. The dining room inside is lovely and we were seated at a very nice table. The server was extremely courteous with the exception that we never received an apology for how long it took for our meal to come out. It was an extremely long wait and something should have been said. The food missed the mark in execution. The different sorts of hash browns were over browned and were very, very dry - almost like nuggets. The browning looked like they'd been cooked on a dirty grill. The same thing with the "eggs-over easy" they looked dirty and unpalatable. At the time we received our food there were only 2 small tables outside with guests, and 3 inside with guests, so we could only guess that perhaps the regular cook had called in sick. AQUA has so many nice features. If they could only up the quality control on food it could be great. My mother, for whom we went there, said she wouldn't go back. I'd consider tryng it again to see if we were just there when there staff may have called in. So, a mixed bag.
I had made reservations for 8:15pm. We were late so I called ahead to check that we were still okay. The hostess said 8:30 would be fine. the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived and we felt rushed from the very beginning. We ordered a bottle of wine and our salad appeared immediately afterward--like less than a minute afterward. the waitress must have come by and asked us 4 times if we were still "working on our salads." My friend had ordered the prime rib but specified that she wanted an end. She asked whether an end was available before ordering and was told by the waitress that it was. When my friend's meal came, the waitress said they didn't have an end after all. She should have asked my friend if she wanted to order something else (she would have). We again felt rushed throughout dinner. I finally asked what time they closed and the waitress said they sat until 10pm. It was still before 10 when I asked.
This was a special occasion, my friend's birthday. I had called ahead to ask the restaurant to leave me a message confirming the reservation and also to ask if they could bring out a dessert with a candle as a surprise. I received no call back.
we didn't let it ruin our evening, but I was very disappointed in the nearly rude, very rushed services. Not what you want when you are going out to celebrate a special occasion. Only go here early, because the staff clearly wanted to get out at 10 on the dot and were going to make it happen.
Took my folks here for the first time - they really enjoyed the brunch. Everything was so tasty! They offer items on their Sunday brunch that I wish were on their regular menu - really awesome lasagne and ribs. A very nice dining experience. I noted they are making their own pineapple infused vodka for a special martini. Can't wait to try that.
Stopped by for Sunday Brunch. Was good as always. We were the only ones there for awhile, so no line and fresh food. Think everybody was at the State fair, last weekend at the cabin, Top 10 Weather day and it was Labor Day weekend. The people started to show up about 11:30 so we did pick the right time. Sat out on the patio and watch the boats go by. Very pleasant as always. Have never been disappointed.
