I visit this restaurant at least 3 times a month. Definitely my top choice when it comes to authentic Italian food.

-Food - it's simply incredible. Great variety, beautiful presentation, fantastic flavors, and very well executed dishes. You must know that this restaurant went to extraordinary lengths to find you the best beef-cut in town for their top dish: Bistecca a la fiorentina.

-Service - this is where the restaurant lacks consistency. Being a fairly busy restaurant, they have a good amount of waiters; therefore you're playing the lottery of who you're getting and how the service will be. I've only had the same waiter twice; every other visit it has been a different person. This latest visit specifically, we had the worst waiter: Roberto. Rude, kept spilling wine on top of my hand every time he filled our glasses, never apologized, he was throwing plates/silverware on the table instead of placing them, didn't let our wine to be finished before pouring a newer bottle and mixing the wines in the same glass; when we said something he acted offended, mixed our credit cards, simply terrible. If you can steer away from Roberto, you should be good. Not sure what training the restaurant provides, but each waiter has been a completely different experience. The best waiter so far has been Sherif - you can tell he cares and enjoys what he is doing.

-Overall a great place - if you can ignore some of the service shortcomings - the food and ambience definitely are worth it.

When making the reservation I included that we were celebrating a birthday. Upon arrival, the hostess asked whose birthday it was and wished me a happy birthday. Somehow this was not conveyed to our waitress. My filet was overdone so I sent it back with a server. Our waitress brought it back and used her phone’s flashlight to point out that my steak was pink in the middle, I had ordered it medium. I repeated that it appeared and tasted more well-done than I like, so she removed it a second time. Eventually I did get my steak done to my liking. Dessert was served, with no mention of my birthday or a candle (as I had seen the table next to ours receive). I casually told the waitress that it was my birthday and she mumbled something about the incident with my steak “threw her off.” She brought lemoncello with the check. We found the restaurant too dark and asked our waitress if the lights could be turned back up a bit, but nothing was done. We came here last year to celebrate my birthday and had a much better experience overall. This did not live up to my memory from last year.

We went during 2018 DC Restaurant Week and if you wanted the filet mignon it was a sur charge of $10.00 more. I believe if the entre is on the menu then it should be part of the $35.00 per person deal. The pasta dish was not good, something about the sauce wasn't tasty. The salad was suppose to be a corn and black bean with watercress, but the salad had no black beans and the watercress lettuce was not tasty either. I had the chicken breast stuffed with cheese. The chicken was cooked very well, but the cheese sauce was something you had to develop a taste for and I didn't have that kind of time to waste.

Overall, will not be going back!

Restaurant feels too casual for the price tag. Food was very good but I would have expected a little better for the money.

Some of the best Italian food in DC. Attentive and very friendly staff. An authentic Italian atmosphere and generous portions. Definitely worth it.

Our table must have been given away even though we were on time for our reservation. After a 15 minute wait, they put us at a table set right under the kitchen window--not suitable.
Our waiter was abrupt. As my son didn't order a dessert, the waiter took my dessert and put a candle on it for his birthday. I didn't get a dessert! The the waiter came over and opened up the folio contains the bill to see if I had put my credit card in yet. These things made me feel like the restaurant was treating us like it was a privilege to be able to dine there; and I definitely don't feel that way.

We went based on strong reviews and were a bit disappointed. Service was delightful, and restaurant has easy location. Food was the main disappointment, nothing special. I had steak with blueberries for example which surprisingly had received rave reviews.

Alex our server was friendly and professional. We loved being able to come in at 11:30 before the rush of restaurant week and receiving so much attention from all of the staff. The food was as delicious as always.

I'm a repeat patron here, and absolutely love this place. I recommend it to my friends and family, and my husband and I like to come here to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. The tasting menu is fantastic -- especially the pasta and dessert courses. Definitely go!

appetizers and desert were fabulous; poor choice of entrees...the scallops. Watery, little flavor. Very disappointing. Other guests had filet mignon, and said it was fabulous.

Really a surprise. The food - especially the blueberry steak - was outstanding. And the service was better than any I've experienced. There were at least 5 or 6 people who all seemed to be waiting on us -- walking by constantly to make sure everything was attended to before we even thought about it. Unlike most restaurants where you have one waiter and maybe another helper or two, it was as if every server was our own - bringing things, describing things, answering questions, asking questions. Not in the least intrusive, yet there immediately. The experience was truly unique and the food delicious. BTW, the front page of the menu has several opportunities to try several things at a time -- a salad trio, 5 vegetarian pastas, 3 steaks, a cheese plate and four desserts. My companion and I elected to order all except the cheese plate and split it. (The five pastas are designed to be split between two or more people, but the others are usually for one.) That was a great decision. A LOT of food, but we really enjoyed the variety. And the house Cabernet was a perfect accompaniment. We'll be back, for sure! BTW, there is a bar next door that we had been told was a place we needed to go prior to our visit to Acqua -- but it is closed on Sundays and Mondays during the summer, and we were there on a Monday in July. Another reason to go back!

Whether you are in the mood for an excellent steak or some pasta, this place rocks. Right next to Eastern Market makes for easy parking, at least when the market is closed...

Loved the wine selection and my steak au poivre was cooked to perfection.

Great place for dinner with friends- the only negative is that we were seated in the front room and it was pretty noisy. One of the other parties was quite loud so it was difficult to talk and hear each other. Otherwise everything else was terrific. Our waiter was excellent and did not rush us so we were able to take our time with dinner which was great!

This was our first visit. It was for our anniversary dinner. Unfortunately our table was right across from the food prep area. This are was very very loud. One could not have any kind of conversation with dinner. Unfortunate. We did see other tables and other areas that did not seem as loud. I am not one in favor of LOUD dining areas. I guess I am old school. I like to HEAR and enjoy the conversations with dinner. Not able to at this table. We really enjoyed the food. The drinks were a little off from our expectation. Otherwise. I will definately give this restaurant a second chance now that I know there are less loud areas. I want to try the steak in blueberry reduction.

Superb lunch meeting! Food outstanding. Ambience perfect. (Had a last minute increase in number from 4 to 5 people. Michael took care of the change seamlessly.). Paula was very gracious and served us like a seasoned pro instead of a college sophomore. Results of meeting could not have been better. Acqua Al 2 is my “go to” place for both casual and business dining. Thank you.
