Fantastic food and service
Over the summer I was studying in Firenze and Acqua al 2 was my favorite restaurant there! I was so happy to hear about this sister restaurant in the States. My boyfriend and I made the trip down to D.C and although the monuments are cool, eating here was what I was looking forward to the most. I was skeptical because I didn't know if a restaurant in the U.S could match my experience in Italy, but the D.C location did not disappoint! The food was delicious and the staff was so friendly. I really felt like I traveled back to Italy. We were in D.C for two nights and ended up coming again the second night because we just didn't think any place could top this one!
I wasn’t prepared for the type of menu offered to us. In retrospect, we should have ordered differently (family style instead of individually).
Service was great! Before coming to the restaurant, I made the mistake of cancelling my reservation and called the restaurant as soon as they opened. The hostess wasn't able to pull back my opentable reservation at first but was able to get me in the system.
Our waitress was spot-on! She was personable and made sure that we enjoyed our food and let us know that she is there to accommodate our needs. The food was also fantastic. The ricotta/spinach balls with tomato sauce and cheese was the best thing I ate there and I recommend sharing the appetizer with someone else, as it filled me pretty quickly.
My family enjoyed their entrees very much. My father had the Artic Char and said it was delicious and my aunt had the fusilli with spicy sauce and it was definitely spicy! I had rigatoni with mozzarella and eggplant. I wasn't used to the eggplant being mushed up but it was still tasty. The pasta was cooked to perfection, just al dente!
My father and I each had tiramisu for dessert and it was really good! If I lived anywhere near D.C. I would love to go more often.
Delicious food, excellent service. Friendly, accommodating staff. Definitely recommend.
SPECTACULAR! Had dinner once before so came for lunch/brunch. Simply divine
Absolutely delicious pasta, served by a wait staff that obviously know the menu and enjoy the restaurant. Great experience!
My wife and I went to Acqua Al 2 for Valentine's Day, and it did not disappoint! The food was great, the service was spectacular, and the ambience was impeccable. It was intimate and cozy.
Food was amazing, but very frustrated to find that there was an $85 fixed price menu with no heads up from Open Table.
This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant with simple, good Italian food. The place is very lively and would not recommend for a romantic dinner.
I was able to visit all 3 of the AA2 locations. Sadly the San Diego location has closed and this was closest to home. The DC location as always holds the recipes to be true. The chicken with port sauce had come off the menu 2 years prior but the server was able to have it for me and my boyfriend. Love this place sooo much. Lovely place
Acqua al 2 is one of my favorites in the city. The service is always fantastic! The moment you walk in the door, there are friendly people to greet you. The wait staff knows the menu and wine lists in and out - they can answer any question you may possibly have. There are monthly specials that are bee friendly too - we tried the sweet potato cheesecake with basil sauce (AMAZING).
Great options for vegetarians, fabulous wine selection. The food is delightful and the atmosphere is relaxing. The noise level is normally quite low except a baby and toddler were unhappy during our dining experience so the noise level was bumped up a bit.
Make reservations! There is walk in seating at the bar and there is community seating but you will be next to others. Beautiful outdoor seating during nice weather.
All the pasta was very good, we got the sampler. The gnocchi was amazing - so light and soft. But the star of the show was the filet mignon with blueberry sauce. Beef was cooked and seasoned perfectly, great flavor. Blueberry sauce was not as sweet as I was expecting, but you still get the distinct flavor of blueberries. It complimented the steak very well.
Very romantic ambiance; cozy and intimate. It gets busy in there so you'll be pretty close to your neighbors, but we didn't mind. Service was great, no complaints. It was a perfect night, we had a fantastic dinner.
Had a reservation for 9 on a Saturday. Place was pretty busy and not much room to stand around once we were checked in, but we were seated fairly quickly. After being seated we did have a little bit of a wait before the waiter came by our table, but he was very attentive during the rest of the night. Ordered a bottle of wine and the Strozzapreti al Pomodoro. Very tasty dish and the bread that was provided was good for cleaning up the sauce. For the entree I had the blueberry fillet and my date had the pasta special. The fillet was cooked beautifully and the blueberry reduction added a nice sweetness to the saltiness of the beef. For dessert we had the dessert taster which wasn’t anything wild but was a good finish to the meal. Overall we spent a little over 2 hours there and while it was loud at times, we didn’t have too much trouble hearing each other the whole night.
One of our favorite restaurants. We've visited two of the three locations (DC and Florence). Both exceptional. Waiter was very knowledgeable about gluten-free options. My wife and I will be back again.
