Italian
Acqua al 2's DC outpost brings the same authentic Tuscan cuisine you would find in it's home city of Florence, Italy. With a wide array of vegetarian pastas, hand-carved steaks, and fresh seafood, Acqua al 2 is perfect for a celebratory dinner, or casual dining al-fresco on the patio across from historic Eastern Market.

Incredibly accommodating of our diner who could not eat dairy. Prepared pasta sampler and steak trio with out dairy and it was delicious. Attentive and nice service. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful authentic Italian food. There are so many good items on the menu it was difficult to decide what to order. We both chose different pasta dishes (Cannelloni and Rigatoni with eggplant) and we loved our choices. The atmosphere is lively and it is obviously a popular local spot. We are from out of town and this place was recommended by a friend who ate at this one and their other restaurant in Florence.
If you are looking for some authentic Italian, give this place a try!

I absolutely love this place. The delicious sauces and fresh made pasta stand out above other restaurants. My husband had the very large portioned grilled chicken breast and he cleaned his plate. Highly recommend going here. It will become your favorite.
The service was also OUTSTANDING!

We were in town for a week, rented a townhouse near Eastern Market, and the owner suggested this restaurant.
I took my college-age daughter the last night of our stay when my husband was working —wish we’d gone earlier in our trip as we’d have gone back a second time, and taken him.
It was hot outside, so we opted to sit indoors, and we loved the local, relaxed ambiance. Service was prompt, courteous and server knowledgeable on the preparations and wine selections. When I said I love vodka sauce, but also like a little spice, he offered to ask the chef if the vodka sauce could be given a little kick. (It can😜)
Ultimately, my daughter had the penne with filet sauce, and I had the eggplant pasta dish. Both amazing! Next time I’m in town, this restaurant will definitely be on the itinerary.

Always good food and service here. We were with a group, making six people, and were totally pleased with the service, cocktails and the food. We all had a variety of dishes, from the fish of the day (branzino) to pastas--delicious.

I eat dinner at Acqua al 2 regularly (and will continue to). However, it has been about a year since I last had lunch there, so my husband and I decided to go for a day-date. We were disappointed, and I doubt we'll have lunch there again.
We both ordered the blueberry steak- our favorite- and were surprised that it was a sirloin. Certainly, at dinner it is filet, and I *believe* that it used to be a filet at lunch too. That said, I understand needing a less expensive cut at lunch given the price point. I just didn't remember lunch being a sirloin... oh well, no big deal.
We cut into our steaks, both ordered medium rare. My husband's steak was cooked medium well *at best* and mine was decidedly well done. Additionally, my steak was FILLED with fat and gristle- many bites were inedible. Although we did not complain, I later saw that the women at the table next to us had the same problem. One sent her steak back and the manager had to come out. After a significant amount of back and forth, he agreed that the quality of the steak itself was so poor that he replaced her dish, substituting it with filet.
After watching the interaction the manager had with the women next to us, I wish I had complained as well; not because I wanted a filet, but because the meat itself was such poor quality that the restaurant should know. Whatever supplier they are using for the lunch sirloin- at least that day- was decidedly BAD and much lower quality than what I expect from Acqua.
When our check arrived, we were charged $118, despite only ordering two of the $25 lunches and a single glass of wine. The server forgot to code our meal as the lunch special and charged us for each individual dish. It was an easy fix once pointed out, but the carelessness felt indicative of our whole meal.
We will continue to go to Acqua for dinner. But we left lunch with a literal and figurative bad taste in our mouths. Joselito- about a block away- is a better lunch at the same price point.

We had the pasta sampler and a steak. The pasta was nothing special—could have been from Harris Teeter and I wouldn’t have noticed. The steak was great—a tiny bit fatty but cooked spectacularly. Service was perfectly average.
Overall it was a fine experience but not a good value proposition. For the sampler, two entrees, and two glasses of wine we spent $170. An equal or better experience could be had for half that.

Great dining experience. Awesome food and excellent service. Only issue - the menus were spotted with oil and red wine; should be presented with clean menus - dirty ones do not give a positive first impression. Have been here several times and it is always such a marvelous food experience.

Everything about Acqua Al 2 shines, from first course to last. I don't often eat steak, but had to on recommendation, and the Filetto all’Aceto Balsamico was the most tender and satisfying I've ever had.

The restaurant was in a decent location in DC, and had some available parking spaces in front. We had to wait a bit for our tables even with the reservations, but when we asked to be moved to a different table due to slight draft we felt, they were more than nice to accommodate us. The food was great as expected, the steak was nice and tender. Most of all, our server was very personable and knowledgeable. He was able to give a good recommendation on a selection of wine, and also gave us a proper suggestion on how much food to order (we went for the pasta sampler and the steak sampler - which he told us should be plenty without appetizer order prior to having them). I would go back to the restaurant to try other dishes.

The hostess was extremely put off by our 1127am arrival for our 1130am reservation. The waitress was scarce at best. The table helper was extremely great and congenial. When I dine here in my suit, I get much better service than I did in my construction clothes...makes me wonder. Either way, my wife’s birthday meal was a success and that is what truly mattered with this lunch.

We live just a few blocks away and walked by it many times. My wife and I went for a special occasion and were really surprised at how good it was. The ambiance is amazing, our server was very attentive and responsive. We each had an appetizer, split a pasta dish (gnocchi that was awesome), mains, and split a dessert. The main course was a little slow coming out, but it didn't matter, everything was perfectly cooked and authentic. It's a little pricey but totally worth it. We will be going back soon and will take friends there.

Acqua al 2 made our anniversary special with a free dessert and overall a delicious meal. But we ordered the vegetarian pasta sampler (and felt like our server could have provided more information about it), and we felt a bit rushed as each portion came out before we could barely finish/appreciate the previous portion. Also with a different server bringing each portion, my husband didn't receive the hot sauce he'd requested.
