Best Beignets in Pittsburgh, great craft drinks and Sunday brunch faire
Amazing food and excellent service. Nice bar menu also.
Food is outstanding and interesting. Had Sunday brunch- delicious!Great cocktails and mocktails. Nice Waiter
Slow service. It took them over an hour to bring my table the salmon entree, which was about 4oz of salmon that tasted the same as the frozen one from whole foods. Delicious, but not worth the wait especially considering that pandemic procedures suggest not keeping tables for too much over 90 minutes. The table next to me never even got their appetizer in over 75 minutes and ended up leaving hungry. Waste of a night.
Place is horrible. Ordered an over priced bottle of wine and two entrees on Saturday night. Over an hour later we were still waiting for entrees so canceled mine and took the Pappardelle to go. It looked more like an opening night than a standard Saturday. The Pappardelle was the second worst thing my partner and I have ever eaten at that price point ever. I would not waste the money on this spot. Other than location they do not have much to offer.
Change Motto to “Microwave to Table” not Farm to Table! We did not order appetizers but our dinner came in 5 minutes, even before our Cocktails! The truffle pasta had lots of mushrooms but definitely Not truffle and it tasted like soap. The salmon had black apple & celeriac which the microwave compromised their texture!
Brunch Review: What an excellent food experience! The Fish Tacos are 3 to an order, and there were 3 of us, so we chose them as our appetizer. The Cod had a light crispness to the exterior and tasted really fresh. And the combination of ingredients in the tacos (watermelon radish, queso fresco, etc) was amazing. Our next “must try” is the Quiche. WOW! It had a crust semblance of a Dutch baby, lots of mushrooms and was just plain delicious.
The rest: the Tito’s Bloody Mary was a treat to look at, just beautifully presented and garnished. The coffee was really really good coffee. The Pancakes were absolutely lovely. We were glad we shared them alongside our entrees, because to eat them as an dish by itself would be pretty heavy.
As far as price point, it’s a little high, but I’m just glad to pay it and happy that this restaurant made it through the stress of the pandemic.
One side note, the Carrot Cake seemed a stretch at $12. The portion was quite small, and if I hadn’t re-read the website menu after leaving I wouldn’t have understood that the sauce was possibly an light apricot cream cheese.
Most interesting end to the review- we noticed that everyone who dined there left smiling big smiles, thanking the staff on their way out, and seeming genuinely happy and appreciative as they walked past our table to the front door! Our server was Ashley, and she was adorable! She made us feel very at home, and embraced our many questions about the food, the seating and the artwork.
This is a MUST VISIT RESTAURANT in Pittsburgh!!!
Good food and excellent service. Good quality and delicious food. One star is less because did not like the coffee flavour. Enjoyed our breakfast over all.
Great spot for brunch. We enjoyed the hash and the quiche. We also split an order of the pancakes just so we could try them. We absolutely loved everything! Signature cocktails were fun and delicious. Service was excellent!
A great Sunday Brunch for easter. The menu had many good choices among a small assortment. I had the short rib hash and it was excellent. A good casual vibe where it is clear the chef takes great pride in their work.
We selected Acorn for brunch because they said that they had Vegan dishes and Gluten Free options, but the brunch selection for these items were few and the menu did not identify which fit these categories. My daughter ordered the bagel with avocado smear, but when it arrived she discovered it had cheese in the smear. They were able to remake the item without cheese, but the menu did not specify that there was cheese in the dish. The fish tacos didn't contain gluten, but the fish was fried in the same fryer with gluten items. This might sound nit-picky but when you have food allergies or are vegan, these details matter. Ultimately, the food was delicious and our server was great.
The food was amazing!!! There was hand sanitizer on each table which was much appreciated and the staff was incredibly kind. (Get the pancakes!)
Unable to conduct a conversation, loud music and packed restaurant for weekend brunch. Very generous salmon in bagel/lox, very tasty. Fish tacos had a lot of jalapenos on top of them, next time would ask them to be removed, or put on the side. Lovely green salad with fish tacos.......
Although busier this time we went, staff went above and beyond. great food and service
Easily one of my top 5 restaurants in Pittsburgh. Food is excellent, along with impeccable service. You can see and taste the passion behind the food the that is being served at Acorn. Always has you coming back, hungry for more...
Impressed. First time there. The food was great and my server was fantastic!!
The food at acorn was quite good. It was my first time visiting this restaurant and took my parents there who were visiting from out of town. We were very disappointed by the service from our waitress. We noticed she was very friendly to other takes and not so much to us. Not sure if I will be going back because there wasn’t anything to warrant such cold treatment from the beginning of our visit.
A delightful evening and a lovely meal. Sat at the table by the window open on a lovely night. The service is friendly, efficient and very accommodating. Will definitely go again.
The food is beyond divine, the service impeccable. Acorn may be the best kept secret in the 'burgh.
Server left us for long periods of time including having us wait for a long time for our bill when we were clearly finished.
The roasted Brussels sprouts and the salt cod Brandade appetizers were phenomenal. The grilled sourdough slices that came with the salt cod Brandade were perfect, although we could have used one more to finish off the mixture.
Trout with choucroute, fermented onion, red wine, mustard seed, pickled pearl, and fennel salad was fresh and perfectly cooked. The pappardelle with almond harissa pesto, sherry, kale, pickled fig, mushroom, goat cheese, truffle was intesely flavorful and a favorite at our table. We also had a perfect medium rare dry aged ribeye, with white bean ragout, root vegetable, kale, bechemel, and crispy shallot. It was the best steak we've had in years.
We finished off the meal by sharing a plate of fresh hot beignets, with apple butter, caramel sauce, and chocolate sauce for dipping. They were delicious.
The only issue with the room is that it was extremely noisy. The music was turned up loud and there was a table in the front with 6 very boisterous men talking very loudly. Fortunately we sat near the rear of the restaurant where it was less noisy, especially after the front table left. It also seemed like they were shorthanded that particular evening.
We would definitely go back there again and try some of the other dishes on the menu. Because of Covid, the tables were spaced nicely apart. Reservations are needed.
Wonderful place with great meals. A bit pricey but worth it.
As a vegetarian, menu was a bit lacking but I was still very happy with my meal.
You need to be a repeat customer in order to know about the cheese plate. It wasn’t listed on the menu and I would have ordered that item.
The food was exceptional. We have dined all over the world, and this is one of the five best meals that I ever have been served. The cauliflower and chestnut appetizer we shared was exquisite. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her trout, and I thoroughly enjoyed my pork loin. The seasonings were surprising, but delectable. Perhaps what most distinguished the main course, however, was the texture — in particular, the addition of grains that gave the meal a crunchy mouth feel. We usually don’t order dessert, but had such a wonderful experience so far that we opted to try the beignets. They came with three wonderful dipping sauces — including smoky chocolate — that made them even better than what I have had in New Orleans. But there were a couple of problems. First, we were told upon checking in that we must vacate the table in 90 minutes. It wasn’t a problem, but I wasn’t told in advance that our reservation was time limited. Second, we were seated near the door and, every time someone entered, we were subjected to an arctic blast. My wife was forced to wear her coat for the entire meal. The restaurant needs to do a better job of buffering diners from the cold this time of year.
Awesome food and wait staff
Absolutely loved everything, food, presentation, and service.
Loved the oj, pancakes, and chicken sandwich.
Starting with the delicious and creative cuisine created by Chef Paul, delivered to the table by kind and competent servers...down to the very chic ambiance in which we enjoyed our experience, Acorn remains one of our absolute favorite eateries in Pittsburgh...or in ANY city, for that matter.
We enjoyed that there were some delicious vegetarian (if not vegan) options; the cauliflower and brussel sprouts were delicious. Shrimp masa had a lot going for it, but the shrimp were overdone, sadly. Chocolate bread pudding was good but not amazing. We will go again, though.
Amazing food, amazing service and an all around excellent experience!
Great options for vegetarians. The wait staff was very attentive, detailed and pleasant.
Delicious food, excellent cocktails, our servers were very attentive, and they all did social distancing correctly, so I felt safe dining in!
Felt tables were too close together
Vegan option was made for my wife. Cocktails were good. Food was delicious. Service was fair. Server was nice but no check backs. Bottom line they are understaffed on the floor because of the Covid, so the server had to cover a lot of ground during a Saturday night dinner.
Place was nice, we parked in a lot and walked a short distance to our car.
Perfect every time. The food and atmosphere is just beyond perfect.
I got the trout and my partner picked the salmon. Both dishes were phenomenal and our waitress offered to explain them for us, much appreciated. The food was great, and they didn’t have the drink he wanted but was able to substitute.
The staff was really kind.
We came here for Valentine's Day brunch. We decided to order the blueberry pancakes and the fried chicken sandwich, and then share both. One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Service, drinks, everything was top notch and made for a great start to vday.
