After a slow start to order drinks everything was fabulous. Started with bread and butter appetizer and it was exceptional. We love the chicken and beef tenderloin for sharing and always order those entrees. For dessert the beignets were also outstanding
Always delicious !!
Was super excited to try this place. The food was not good, but it had great ambiance and alcohol. (Went for brunch.) I got eggs with bacon hollandaise. It didn't come with bacon hollandaise.. I said it didn't and they said it was there.. But it doesn't matter, my friends surprised me from out of town and we had champagne so I got over it.
We would have given Acorn five stars across the board except one of our entrees was served cold when it should have been lukewarm to warm. No staff was anywhere to been seen for 5-7 minutes to bring this to their attention. Our bad luck but would still recommend this restaurant.
I took my sister out for her birthday. The simple menu was packed with bold flavors! We had the charred cauliflower and Brussels sprouts for our first course. Superb! My sister had the duck lasagna and I had the salmon. Both were excellent. Our server was attentive and explained menu items to us. We were her last table of the evening but we never felt rushed (we wouldn’t have know if we didn’t see her leave). We even enjoyed dessert... the beignets were amazing especially the apple and toffee dips. Great place!
Brunch at Acorn is very good. Quality is exceptional and service is friendly and outstanding. The only negative is the nose.
Great restaurant. It has become one of our favorites.
The food was delicious, but not very filling. For $34, my wife's salmon dish was so good she cleaned the plate - but then we had to stop on the way home for more food. I got the gnocchi and the "bread and butter", both of which were extremely good, but again did not leave me filling full. I cant complain about the food at all, but for the price, I was left wanting more.
Cute restaurant. Great food. Interesting options. Nathan was awesome!
The food was terrific and service was excellent!
The food, drinks, and service were superb. Highly recommend!
Everything was very flavorful and fresh. The service was impeccable; very knowledgeable, efficient server who made good recommendations concerning dishes and wine pairings. I'm a vegetarian and there were lots of options. We sat at the worst table in the place, which had a slightly negative effect on the overall experience, but would in no way discourage me from returning even if I had to sit there again!
This was our first visit to Acorn. We there for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We both loved the food -- quite a unique and very tasty approach to shrimp and grits. The sweet corn in the grits combined very nicely with the spicy shrimp. Loved the play of hot and sweet. The beignets were excellent -- hot and crisp from the fryer and nicely coated with powdered sugar. We loved the butterscotch sauce and apple butter for dipping. We did not like the smoked chocolate sauce -- just a flavor profile that worked in my opinion. Our server was excellent. We will go back!!!
Acorn squash was delicious. Very Fall like dish with a great mixture of flavors and color.
Great service. Some dishes were excellent. Some were heavily criticized salted, to the point where they were unappetizing.
For such a nice restaurant that serves breakfast/brunch they only had drip coffee...no espresso. very disappointing. Other than that food was good and service was very good.
This was our first time at Acorn and we had delicious food and great service.
Great place! Different (in a good way) menu!
Birthday brunch. Service was awesome. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Overall great experience.
Love the food. Service was not good. Very pushy waitress. We went at 6:30 with aging parents visiting from NY who appreciate good food and wine. The restaurant was so loud it was hard to enjoy the food. When we commented on noise level waitress said “what do expect on a Friday night, people are out having fun”. I won’t rush back and hope they consider working on sound walls/ceilings.
Amazing! My boyfriend told me to pick any restaurant I wanted as a treat and I chose this because we had never gone. The food was amazing! My bf has a nut allergy and they were very careful to exclude nuts. It was super romantic. I would recommend the linguine, bread and butter, and salted cod :)
Food was great, service was as expected for a busy Sunday morning (though I’m sure they could plan a bit better for brunch crowds). Luckily we were sat a high top otherwise the noise and overall crowded dining area would have gotten annoying.
Only been for brunch but everything I’ve tried thus far has been delicious! Recommend the pancakes, biscuits and gravy or the hamburger. Very good bloody Mary’s as well.
A bit overpriced - foufou presentation but not bad. Wine was VERY overpriced. $14 for a midlevel Riesling?
Excellent at accommodating food sensitivities
This was our first visit to Acorn and everything was wonderful! Looking forward to going again soon.
I would recommended with reservation. The food was very creative, but some of the flavor combinations didn’t work, as if the chef was trying too hard. The cauliflower app was outstanding however. I feel it was a bit overpriced for the portions. Our server was very attentive, but we literally could not hear him because it was so loud. My party had a hard time carrying on a conversation, and tables around us were shouting to hear each other. Some noise quieting wall hangings or ceiling drops would help a lot. I would recommend coming when it is not so busy as it might be a bit quieter.
Had a great meal. There were 5 of us and everyone loved it. The appetizers were outstanding. One of our favorite Pittsburgh restaurants right in shadyside. Creative food, love the menus. knowledgeable servers. Enjoyed the duck lasagna, others had the steak upbeat place was a bit loud in the restaurant
Fun night !
Outstanding creative cuisine. One of the best assortment of small plates we have seen. Absolutely wonderful dining experience.
Took my girlfriend on a date here and enjoyed the experience. Good wine list, great service and really good food. Try the chicken for 2!!
Great menu focused on doing a few things very well. Very pleasant environment.
Would try again but not for brunch. Service was good but the food was ok at best.
Food was outstanding!
Amazing food, worth every penny! Perfect portions, wonderful and friendly service, and nice ambiance. My husband initially thought with the name Acorn that the food would lean in the vegetarian/vegan direction. He was highly impressed by the quality of the beef tenderloin cooked to perfection!
Eclectic area of Shadyside and short walk to get to Acorn. Food and drinks were great.
Acorn had an interesting take on brunch favorites. The Chiliquilies was served in a small cast iron fry pan and was great -spicy and interesting. Acorn is not afraid to spice things up which is great if you like some spice in your food. Be sure and get the pancakes as they are quite unusual in both appearance and still. One of our party got one of the bagel dishes. The bagels are homemade and excellent. A bowl of beignets were a special not on the menu. They are small, served with three different sauces, and not to be missed. My only complaint was the noise level was very high precluding normal conversation.
Amazing food, and our server was fantastic and very professional.
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere was done properly!
Another wonderful meal and service. Love this place! A gem.
Very creative menu. The fried chicken with coriander was very good! Also creative cocktails.
