The food was delicious at Acorn. We had such a good brunch! We started off with beignets - which were actually super delicious. I hesitate on getting these, because it is difficult to make a good beignet. They made their own caramel sauce (so good) and an apple sauce to complement the beignets. I got the Matzoball soup. The broth was really tasty! It was a great light meal to eat after having the beignets. I did think the Violet Beureagarde Soda was too sweet for my taste. I probably would not order another soda.
Great experience. Nathan was a fantastic server and I would highly recommend if your looking for a higher end but not pretentious restaurant. Very chill and great food and wine.
Perfect restaurant. Truly for foodies and those who can appreciate good food, new dishes and refreshing taste. The dishes are unique, well balanced and some provide a true aha moment. Can recommend to those who enjoy a dinner at a good restaurant.
Stellar, creative and delicious! The best of the Best in the Burgh. Both dinner and the outstanding Brunch will make your mouth water and provide an experience of sheer delight.
The food was absolutely to die for. Came for the pancakes. Stayed for the potatoes with bacon hollandaise and homemade bread.
Non-alcohlic drinks are a bit pricey, but otherwise enjoyed our brunch.
Excellent food! Service was great! Enjoyed the setting
I would give this place another try in the evening if it wasn’t too noisy because it seem like it was going to be a good place though we only had brunch. Service was exceptionally good but I thought eight dollars for two eggs was a bit steep
Best meal we have ever had in Pittsburgh. Excellent quality and presentation. This is a gem. We eat all over the world and we think this is a super addition to the shadyside list of restaurants.
Our second trip to Acorn, a special lunch for four. Obviously a real chef trying hard for both originality and quality. Limited but very good menu. Pricey, especially at dinner. Lunch for four with a shared desert and no alcohol was over $100 with tax and tip. House drinks including non-alcoholic very small. Service very original and different.
The food was delicious. My husband had the trout and my friend and I had the pagliatelli with truffle sauce. With a martini and one glass of wine it was quite pricey.
The Acorn staff couldn't be nicer. We really enjoyed our visit. However, the food was overly complex. Despite having lots of simple ingredients and a farm to table vibe, Acorn's chef manage to make the food taste overly processed. The use of too many spices and too many ingredients left our palates confused. It seems like an easy fix: refine the ingredients in the dishes and realize that less is more, especially for a restaurant to strives for healthy fresh eating.
Our food was wonderful and the server told us the state of origin of the mussels and trout as well how each dish was prepared. I have certain dietary limitations and she was very knowledgeable of the ingredients. She made great recommendations according to our tastes. Everything was a hit. We chose the Osso bucca, Rainbow trout and Mussels for our entrees. Each had a distinctive preparation.
It was really hard to hear and at one point my daughter actually asked if they could lower the music just a tad and we were in a booth! It's just that kind of old building with high ceilings, but we literally had to shout across the table. I'm not sure what the final bill was, because my daughter grabbed the check for Mother's Day, but my husband and I had to take half of our meals home that we enjoyed the next day. I would say it's on the pricey side but very nicely done, not your average restaurant, for a special occasion or if you appreciate remarkably prepared and unusual ingredients.
Great food, atmosphere, wonderful place to bring family and/or friends.
Amazing food and a great atmosphere. One of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh for sure.
I woukd recommend Acorn for lunch. Dinner was overpriced. If one would like bread it would cost $12...very silly. In addition there is no salad offering to accommodate our dinner... again silly. A beet appetizer was what the server offered. It was delicious but please add a salad. Drinks are all over $10 even for house bourbon and 8 oz glass.
This place never disappoints. The lunch and dinner is always great. A bit pricey, but worth it.
Great service and delicious food
The absolute best fish tacos. The flavors of mint, jalapeño and slaw blended perfectly. The cheeseburger with the acorn sauce was out of this world. New favorite place.
Too many servers were helping the server who took our order.
My friend and I split several dishes.
A serving spoon should have been provided with each course.
When we finished the first course, they took all of our flatware. When the second course arrived, it arrived and we had no flatware. We sat and looked at the beautiful food while the server got some fresh utensils. Still, no serving spoon.
Same happened when we split dessert, utensils came afterward.
I ordered hot tea throughout my meal and asked for more tea randomly, they should have provided another tea bag. By the time dessert came around, it was basically just hot water.
Food was creative and flavorful, nicely presented. No complaints there!
I would definitely go there again.
Service was a minor hiccup overall but noticeable.
Excellent food with unique blends of flavor and texture. I also like the options of small and large plates. Staff from door to table is excellent and attentive without being intrusive. All this and you don’t have to shout to hear yourself tell each other how delicious everything is!
Truly a first class experience. The food was excellent - presentation incredible and wait staff ... five star customer service.
I was there for a wine dinner with Pete Soergel from Lynmar in Sonoma. The food was outstanding and the pairings were wonderful. I can't wait to go back to continue sampling the menu!
Amazing and unique dining experience. The chefs knock it out of the park every time!
I got the avocado and onion bagel. This was quite small yet the same price as 3 large pancakes. So pricing was a bit off. Service was quite slow. But the food was good quality and tasty.
Only issue was a little too much salt on a salad. Everything else for lunch was delicious. The carrot cake was delicious.
Very unique combinations of food, beautifully prepared. nice portions. Excellent wait staff. Will definitely go again.
Chef tries a little to hard with seasoning and ingredients which tend to be on the rich side. Overall pleasant surprise for Pittsburgh from a picky NYC foodie.
This was quiet possibly the best meal we've ever had. Every item that came to our table was outstanding. We had the crab rice, charcuterie, and the tenderloin. We hadnt eaten all day, but this was still to much food, so next time we'd order one fewer item.
Very unique menu! The mussels were out of this world, and you could flake the veal with a fork! Service was on the ball too! It does get a little loud when the restaurant fills up, but nothing crazy.
My daughter and I went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon while I was visiting in Pittsburgh. I love Shadyside and I am
so happy they have this new restaurant Acorn.
Food and service were both very good.
A good addition to Walnut Street.
Delicious food and creative cocktails... would go back.
Delicious! Beautiful restaurant, great area in the heart of Shadyside, and plenty of incredible vegetarian options. The cocktails and flavors of the food are unique and creative. Their menu changes seasonally, too.
My lunch friend beignets, various entrees, excellent service. Meals were very good, however a bit over the top with the generosity of ingredients that chef included. That may be his style. A little hard to digest for me. Service was excellent.
Our party enjoyed ourselves over all. This was on a weekend. May return in weekend get together but not for hamburgers for sure.
The food preparation was truly unique and scrumptious!
Inventive menu, nice atmosphere, knowledgeable servers. We especially loved the escargot!
Food and service are great and consistent with every return visit
Would like to see non alcoholic beer on the menu
We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for many months and finally did. A group of five of us went for dinner and drinks. Sean was our waiter and he did a wonderful job. Then we saw Nathan, who used to work at Altius on Mount Washington which was a pleasant surprise because he was our favorite waiter there! So glad he’s now at Acorn, an added plus for going back. All of us loved our appetizers and meals. We had the gnocchi , roasted cauliflower, beets and one other appetizer that I don’t recall all of which were excellent. My entrée was the mahi-mahi which was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying and returning to this restaurant!
While service and food were very good the noise level, even at 6.45, was deafening and just got worse as the restaurant filled up.
