Acorn is one of our absolute favorite restaurants...and it fortunately is located in Pittsburgh. Everything about it- food quality, creativity, service, ambiance- is all first rate. We look forward to our next visit in the very near future. Highly recommend this top notch eatery.
The food was outstanding! I’d recommend it to anyone. The service was also top-notch!
This restaurant is wonderful - the food is extraordinary
Although the food was good, the service was unacceptably poor. After a slight delay in delivery of the appetizers, it took more than one hour for the main courses to arrive. When we asked what was happening, the waiter said "the items are being plated" -- but it still took another 10-15 minutes. The waiter attempted to compensate by providing a free dessert (which we did not really want, nor were we offered a choice of items); it took a while for these desserts to come. The evening started by three different waiters introducing themselves as our waiter. Ultimately, none of these did a good job.
Great brunch as always at Acorn. Fresh beignets with smoked chocolate and butterscotch made dessert perfect. Glad Acorn is part of Shadyside Walnut St.
One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! Fourth time there and it is consistently so impressive. The food is delicious with great portion sizes and lovely staff.
Good experience. Will add this to my rotation.
Acorn is nothing short of exceptional. Unbelievably innovative and tasty dishes and a truly relaxed atmosphere. Service is impeccable. Acorn receives my very highest compliments
These guys knocked it out of the park. We started with the BBQ beets and shrimp toast. Both dishes were distinctively flavorful and fresh. The sauces/reductions here at Acorn are quite innovative and flavor-packed. We could have been satisfied with just the BBQ beets and shrimp toast, both were excellent, but we ordered the Tenderloin of Beef for Two. It was outstanding. Cooked perfectly and steaming hot when it arrived at the table. We really liked this South American/Peruvian influenced main course with short rib ragout and butter beans and squash. The food at Acorn is "Out of Bounds" delicious. Service is great also. Nice work. We'll be back soon.
We went to Acorn the first time because it was convenient and were impressed by the quality of the food. We went back with friends for a second visit and the restaurant did not disappoint! The trout, which I had, was amazing! The others were likewise impressed with their choices.
The service was very bad. Very slow. The food was
Very over priced
Great food and in-house made soda. The personnel was very attentive without being intrusive.
Food was amazing. Our server Eric was great. Will definitely visit again.
Enjoyed Brunch on a Sunday; best to make reservations to ensure a seat. The restaurant could have used a couple more servers to keep up with the crowd.
So many good options to choose from! The Onion Bagel with Scallion and White fish was so good, we bought another to take home! The Scallion Pancake was delicious and very filling. My husband enjoyed the burger and fries.
Have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food only because I didn’t have any expectations. Thought the food was tremendous. Had a trout dish that was fabulous and a nice portion. Highly recommend the place
This has always been and always will be one of my favorite restaurants.
Outstanding! We enjoyed the eggplant appetizer, with heirloom tomatoes and feta cheese, the beef I tenderloin for two, and capped it with the beignets, all of which were outstanding and unique. This restaurant is a true find, with multiple cuisines, uniquely prepared.
Tried the Orson Welles cocktail, which was very good. Especially liked the orange ice cube rather than water that dilutes as it melts.
The eggplant small plate was delicious! The gnocchi was good, too, but the eggplant was a hard act to follow.
Great food & service. Overall a really nice dining experience
Exquisite! Our first time at ACORN and we are going back tomorrow night. We are food snobs to be honest - we live in NYC and eat well but are from PGH and come for visits every year. We always try to find new restaurants while also visiting old favorites. Acorn is a new favorite - maybe the best food we've had here. That good. And we've had great meals at Eleven and Legume and Altius and Cure and Spork etc. The chef at Acorn is doing wonders with flavors, textures and presentation. We had fantastic gnocci as an appetizer and followed up with sockeye salmon and beets. Who knew beets could taste like this! We promptly canceled our rez for tomorrow night at another place and made a new one for Acorn. Also excellent wine suggestion from our very professional server who was great all evening (service has been a constant issue this week at other places, weirdly). Very nice ambience. All in all a great dinner.
I had an early dinner as I watched the action on the street. The staff were wonderful. I was not very hungry so the mussels hit the spot. The wine list is outstanding.
Presentation and food excellent. Pasta with pistachios outstanding. Always a safe choice for great food.
Nice birthday dinner. Arrived was great and dishes were creative. Bartender made a special birthday cocktail for my girlfriend.
Server was very knowledgeable around the menu and helped with gluten free options.
Sat in the back and the upper part of the restaurant was empty. Felt a little stark.
The food and service are always outstanding. Very creative dishes that are absolutely delicious. Nathan is an amazing waiter, his upbeat personality as well as his knowledge and descriptions of the food add to the whole experience.
Hidden Gem on Walnut Street. Gourmet food full of flavor and unique menu. Excellent service. Modern eclectic atmosphere. Nice option of small plates and entrees. Full bar with craft cocktails. A delightful dining experience.
Delicious! Everything that we had was amazing. Visit... you WON’T regret it!
Acorn is an upscale farm-to-table gastropub on Walnut Street in Shadyside.
It's fairly easy to locate and has a sparse but comfortable ambiance.
They have a well-stocked array of spirits and mixed drinks.Their beer selection is limited but is compiled of some very good local brews that you don't see often.
The food itself was scrumptious and pleasantly-presented.
The service was impressive and the waitstaff was well-versed in all facets of the meal.
All in all I would highly-recommend Acorn for any occasion and/or a pleasant dining experience.
I would say everything was “ok.” Not bad, just not great.
My pasta entree was outstanding but our other dinner, the lamb, was disappointing. Service and ambiance were very good. Cocktails were very well executed but the wine selections are limited, unusual, and overpriced. The desert, beignets, was great.
The bread was burnt. But overall the other food was good.
Delicious food and modern atmosphere. I recommend the tenderloin to share and the shrimp toast. Excellent cocktails also.
First time dining here and we will definitely be back. The salt cod and bread & butter were excellent starters. Entrees were the rainbow trout and veal osso bucco. Both of our meals were also excellent. Our server was outstanding. We had a lovely time and look forward to going back.
Excellent meal. My wife and I were in town for a few days and were looking for a good option in Shadyside. We weren't sure what to expect from the menu since it's on the short side, but had a terrific meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely try to go back next trip.
Very limited menu. Could use more appetizers and salad and sides. Main items limited and most prepared with shell fish.
Three courses, plus a comp’ed dessert... dishes were hit and miss. The kitchen owned it (and comp’ed it), but I doubt we will go back. Server was knowledgeable, professional, and attentive.
The beignet special every time 😍
The staff was delightful and the food was very well prepared and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Orsen Wells cocktail.
Went for lunch. The best salad I have ever eaten! Honest - it was incredible and the citron dressing was amazing. It was not busy so my noise rating may not hold when it is full.
Acorn has just gotten better and better. I always enjoy their brunch. The selections are very original and well executed. Wait staff are friendly and service is timely--no long waits. I really love their mocktails. The only problem is the noise level. I would suggest reducing the sound level of the music. Otherwise, Acorn is a gem.
The usual, it's one of the best foodies restaurant Pittsburgh has to offer.
