The ovens are turned on early. Six o'clock most days. Earlier on Sunday. Within an hour, bread is rising, apples are being sliced. Pecan pies are pulled hot from the oven and left to cool. Ice cream churns in the machine. Cups of coffee steam on the prep table, the baker's cup marked with chocolaty fingerprints. By midmorning, pork shoulder, rubbed with spices the day before, is slowly smoked. And white buckets are filled with sliced onions. Corn is shucked. The stock that cooked all night is taken off the stove and strained. Bags of fresh shrimp are delivered in old grocery store bags. The waiters arrive in groups, shirts and ties on hangers. By then, every burner in the kitchen is being used. Herbs are chopped. Scallops cleaned. Ovens at 500 degrees. All sauces are checked. Bartenders polish their shakers. Silverware is rolled and every surface is wiped down. Music. Lights. Doors are opened. Dinnertime. At Acme. Seven nights a week. Local never tasted so damn good.

Had a wonderful time at Acme! The food is spectacular and the service impeccable. Favorites from the night include: "forever roasted pig", fried green tomato appetizer, cornbread of the day and short ribs.

I usually love Acme but Friday was a big disappointment. Took out of town guests—one had the fish which was over cooked, tough and frankly rubbery. Not my normal experience but because the wait staff was unconcerned I’m not likely to go out of my way to eat there again.

Everything about ACME is wonderful. We were fortunate to have a table outside on a lovely evening. My friend was almost an hour late yet the server didn't rush or seem irritated. Because we were trying to catch a concert, we opted to order several items and share. The cornbread was mind blowing as were the fried green tomatoes!! It was so good, I made a reservation while we were there for Sunday Brunch. Highly recommend!!

Always a favorite and consistently excellent, but the new fried chicken dish with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy was underseasoned and therefore disappointed.

One of our favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The menu is great. Food is consistently very good. The service is friendly. PWe generally eat at the bar: cozy and congenial!

Had a great meal on a Sunday night for a friends birthday (couldn't get reservations on Saturday night - book ahead!). Food was excellent, delivered quickly and the waiter suggested a solution when I didn't like one of the accompanying sides for my meal. Food is always good and they have gluten-free options too.

Pretentious waiter. Not much for kids- not even bread! How do you not have bread you can turn into toast at brunch??? And wouldn’t allow substitution of an English muffin for a biscuit. But they will charge you $4 for that biscuit. And the coffee was terrible. Sorely disappointed because we used to really like coming here for brunch, but it’s gone downhill.

We always have the best experience here! Whenever my son (16 years old) is home on a school break, he asks to have at least one meal at Acme so he can have his favorites - cornbread and Forever Roasted Pig!! Love this restaurant, thanks for keeping it 100!! xoxoxo

The two steaks we ordered came out cold the butter didn't melt. After the waiter argued with me he took them back and heated them up. Very chewy steak.

Clams were very good. Service sucks. We didn't receive our cocktails until after the appetizers came out. To much money for terrible service. I would not recommend this restuarant!!!

We were from out of town and found this via Yelp. Highly recommend making a reservation early because it fills up. We had the brussel sprouts and fried green tomatoes to start. Very good! Then the grouper, fried chicken, and slow roasted pork. Everything was amazing! Then the pecan pie for dessert was about the best we have ever had. Definitely worth a visit to Acme!

There were three of us and we all ordered the same thing, the N.Y. strip steak. One was excellent, one was very good, and mine was awful. Way too much gristle and the meat was tough and horribly stringy. One of the worst steaks I've ever had!

Had a reservation and showed up about 20 minutes early. Was told they had nothing available in dining room but had a table outside. We were hungry so agreed to sit outside. My wife asked for the mimosa that was on chalkboard and was told they didn’t have anymore. Not a big deal just figured since it was written in chalk they could have easily wiped it off so people wouldn’t order it . The menu was very limited it was brunch so we understood. My wife wanted French Toast or Pancakes but was told they didn’t have pancakes and the only French Toast they had was baked with banana pudding. I guess we were expecting them to offer to make her plain French Toast or some pancakes. The bacon and eggs I ordered came with a biscuit which I don’t care for so I asked for a side of toast . And a little later when the food arrived I was told that making me a side of toast “ Was not an option “ ! I guess when we go out to better restaurants we are used of them making an attempt of trying to accommodate us .

The food was great and there are vegetarian options. Easter Sunday was the brunch and although there was no special "Easter Brunch" menu, that was fine, their usual brunch goes above and beyond!

Chicken was dry, small, and uninteresting; like 3 McNuggets. I asked to replace beans (can’t eat cream sauce) with collard greens. Was charged extra without being told there would be an extra charge. All in all a very unappetizing meal and experience.

Overall dining experience was just "OK". Had a pleasant experience at the restaurant until the food showed up. My wife ordered pan-seared tuna which was supposed to be served rare, but, instead, was cooked through. She had that sent back and ordered a salad to be able to eat something semi-quickly. I shared some of my gumbo (which was good, but not great) with her while she waited. At the end of our meal, I thought it would have been a nice gesture for the restaurant to comp my wife's salad since she waited a decent amount of time for something to eat and she didn't get what she really wanted, but they did not. We won't be back.

We went for brunch, right at 1:45PM, end of the brunch hour, and they had our table empty for us. Place was packed, so it took a while to take our order, they were of course out of the days special. My omelette was slightly undercooked, white runny on the bootm, but maybe a lot of people like it that way. All the rest of the family was happy with the food.

We met old friends who hadn't been to town before, and we loved the Acme brunch. We're regular Acme diners, but hadn't been for brunch. Our friends were from Chicago, and greatly enjoyed the southern touches - biscuits, cheese grits, local meats, etc. Acme was also very accommodating as we had a reservation for four, but our friends' daughter came and we were a party of five. The host went out of his way to fit us all in, and we are greatly appreciative. Our waitress was humorous and helpful too.

Acme is always great. The food is great, but not overly pretentious. The service is helpful but not cloying. It is somehow at just the right level to be fun, special, but never stuffy or intimidating. One of our favorites!
