Great “comfort food” but elevated about 10 notches!! Everything seasoned perfectly. Occasionally we find a place, when visiting from out of town, that we wish we could go back to the next night...and this is one of them. So many great options on the menu.... would have loved a “sampling” of all the dishes....didn’t realize it was so highly rated when we went. I had the pork chop special with squash casserole and radish TOPS.... pork was tender and juicy.. cooked to perfect temperature. My husband had the fried chicken. OMGOsh. Crispy and juicy. Mashed potatoes with the chunks of potatoes were heaven. Great wine list. Pecan pie dessert.. didn’t need but had to try... so glad we did. Delicious! Thank you guys for a great evening. Ryan took great care of us at the bar!!!!
I got the fried fish and it was WONDERFUL, the boiled peanut topping was not warm and really not very good. I moved it to the side of the plate and very much savored my fish. Service was very good.
Service was excellent, we enjoy dining on the patio. Food was okay.
Have been here probably 6 times in three years. It was outstanding this week. We especially enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread and shishito peppers and okra. Good prices and selection on wines by the glass. We will gladly return on next visit to Carrboro.
I love this place, and eat here every time I'm town (not often enough). That said, I had a couple of issues with the food. First -- previously when you ordered their (fabulous) corn bread had the butter and cane syrup on the side. This time the butter was blobbed on top of the corn bread, resulting in a buttery cornbread mush in the middle, and the cane syrup was just poured on. I realize this may save some dish washing but the butter in particular made a significant part of the cornbread inedible. Please go back to the old way of serving it.
Second issue -- the Peach Cobbler dessert. What arrived was a scoop of (excellent) ice cream with the cobbler underneath it. The cobbler has a thick dough layer with a few small peach chunks on it. This isn't something I would expect from a restaurant that is otherwise outstanding.
The rest of the meal was great, as was the service. I'll be back next time I'm in town.
Always a great place to go. Food is exceptional and the atmosphere is not to loud not too quiet
Food, drinks, and company were great. More importantly so was my date.
The food, service, and beverages were top notch.
Really like Acme’s food and service. But always feel crowded and cramped in the seating. Tables too small and too close together.
A bit pricey but food and service good. Noise level much too high. Hard to hear dinner companions.
We have been to Acme before, so we knew that the noise level would be high. My spaghetti squash carbonara was good. My husband thought his pecan crusted fried chicken was just ok. My daughter ordered a steak cooked medium, and it came out rare. It was taken back to the kitchen to be cooked more, but took a while to come back out. A complimentary dessert was offered for the error, but we were too full to accept. No discount was offered.
I marked the service down only because it took 1:15 minutes to get our food. We were a two top.
We come to Acme all the time but this experience was bad. The vegetables in the risotto were not cooked and there was no meat, the pork chop was tough and flavorless, the brussel sprouts were burned, not just roasted, and they charged full price for a small piece of salmon on a bed of greens. Sorry to know the restaurant food has declined so far.
Acme is wonderful! It's one of my favorite local restaurants. Farm fresh ingredients in creative recipes. Service is attentive without being intrusive. Patio is wonderful if it's not raining.
Acme is definitely our ‘go-to’ restaurant whether it be an occasion, holiday or just a night put
We sat outside and the patio area was lovely. Good shade and temps even during a hot evening. Although there is not a lot of selection on the menu, the meals we ordered were very good., including the blackened salmon and the beef short ribs, This is more southern fair so not the healthiest but the honey cornbread and mac and cheese are worth every calorie!
The food was imaginative and amazing. I had the Orange County breakfast which had fantastic buttermilk biscuits covered with sausage gravy, cheese, and 2 fried eggs. Absolutely delicious! The grits were the best I have ever had- super creamy. We ordered the cinnamon which was so big that four of us couldn't finish it. We'll definitely be back.
Delicious food but a bit overpriced.
Acme has been a consistent go to restaurant. However, this visit disappointed. Three of us had the BBQ which was very salty, and the Mac & Cheese was cool to luke warm. They have also discontinued their fabulous hamburger in favor of some new concoction that includes pork which means it must be cooked too much (according to the server.) Why they have done away with something we all liked has been a surprise on our last two visits.
Sharing delicious Summer Risotto with a friend was a delightfully delicious experience! The whole experience was wonderful, from a pleasant greeting as the doors to the restaurant opened to an attentive server who made sure we had what we needed. I will bring another friend to Acme another time! Thank you!!!
The food was good for southern themed. The problem was that there was a lot of vinegar used in some of the sides. Very limited menu.
We went to Calabash night to celebrate a birthday. The tomato plate was a greater starter. Each of us had the Calabash seafood platter with fried fish, oysters, and shrimp, hushpuppies, corn on the cobb, and slaw. Each item was out of this world! Looking forward to August 2020!
It was very ordinary, so not worth the $50 per person price tag of a dinner, a shared appetizer, and one drink
Great place - adorable outdoor courtyard in the back where we love to eat. The service is a little lackluster and I cannot stand that they don't allow substitutions. When spending $30 on an entree, it's very frustrating that you can't swap out the vegetable side dish. I find that so patronizing. A little pricey but great local farm to table food. Love the mushroom pie, summer heirloom tomato salad, fried chicken, cocktails. We will keep going back but would like it much more if the chef would deign to allow swap outs to accommodate allergies and tastes!
Brunch outside was such a treat.
Great service and intimate atmosphere. Highly recommended for a nice date night.
Food was delicious but made me sick. Service was just ok.
The bread and food was great but one should skip the desserts.
absolutely love this place, everything is amazing; food, service and ambiance
Service was impeccable. Menu was broad and interesting to the point it was difficult to decide what to order. We ordered the barbecued pork and all found it to be so full of red pepper flakes that it was difficult to taste the pork. Pity. The corn bread, slaw, and mac and cheese were outstanding. Even though we didn't care for the barbecue we will go back to try other menu items.
I have never had bad service until this week. We ordered two steak frites and the salmon. Only one of our steak frites was brought to the table. The waiter who brought the food to the table said only one order was put in. The waiter who took the order lied and said “Oh, they ran out of steak so it’s going to take another 3 minutes.” We ended up splitting the one steak frites because it wasn’t worth the wait. I was in food service for several years and you know you shouldn’t deliver the food to the table unless all the plates were ready. I just wish he didn’t lie about it. It’s going to be awhile before we come back.
Great food. Love the Crab Florentine omelet at brunch.
Well I would have to say as a 1st time visit I would definitely recommend as well as go back again. I had heard some much talk about the fried cornbread dish which we ordered was wonderful the oysters sliders was the other appetizer we had ( just add little bit more sauce with shredded lettuce and pickle) but again nice dish. For dinner my girlfriend had The BLT bento box a very unique presentation (creative outside the box concept) and I had the Catfish and both dishes I would have again.
The service was gracious we didn't feel rushed our server constantly checked to make sure we was ok. Now the selling point for me was the consistency of my drinks (Bourbon Brown Sugar) omg.. tasted the same both times I ordered them. Now that is certainly something that doesn't happen all the time. Wonderful Evening out with my lady Thank you Phil Ivey.
We love Acme. The food and cocktails are outstanding; the service is great! We drive from almost an hour away to eat here for special occasions. Delicious, consistent and worth every penny!
We love Acme, we always have and always will! We are really enjoying now bringing our children to the restaurant after it being the home of many pre-marriage and children dates there starting 17 yrs ago. My only wish is that there was more variety and amount of gluten free dishes available. We like to eat there frequently but tend not to given the same GF dishes that always seem to populate the menu.
Terrific brunch.-so happy to have been there for Heirloom Tomato Week! The brunch menu is extensive, with many options in both the breakfast and lunch categories. The space in Acme is a bit tight, and the noise level a bit high, but neither factor is enough to be distracting. No one in my party had been to Acme in years, but all agreed that we will be back soon.
We love Acme and keep coming back for both Tuesdays other days as well as brunch. Nice surprise yesterday we were presented with a slice of the coffee cake (as a gift) and it was GREAT, as well as the tomato omelette and the crab one. Both delicious and also really good coffee. Kevin has not lost his touch but they do need a sign on the new entry that says open or an arrow pointing you to the entrance. we almost drove away thinking you were closed.
Wonderful staff, food, and atmosphere! The food and drink options will have you coming back to try them all!
Love Acme. Having been going for 10 years. Unfortunately, this experience was not up to par for them. The hostess was rude and dismissive, despite us being early for our reservation. Then, we seemed to be forgotten outside and seated 15 minutes after our reservation despite multiple outdoor tables being open. As a results, the dish I wanted for dinner was gone. Maybe next time it will be back up to the level expected.
