Across from Millennium Park and along Chicago’s Cultural Mile, Acanto Restaurant + Wine Bar is a favorite destination for those who appreciate approachable and authentic Italian food, an award-winning wine list featuring selections from each of Italy's twenty regions, and an inviting, conversation-friendly dining experience.

In 2017, Acanto received a Jury Prize and 3-Star rating in the World of Fine Wine "World's Best Wine List," and a 2-Glass "Best of Award of Excellence" rating in Wine Spectator.

The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.

Much quieter early afternoon. A lovely experience.

Very pricey. $27 for lasagna that shouldn't have cost more than $15-$18.

Visit it Acanto for Mother’s Day dinner. Waiter was subpar, forgot the wine and the pasta dishes were cold. Service was poor. I have had really good experiences here before, not sure if it’s just the waiter or if the restaurant is at fault.

Disappearing servers. One after another. Bartender had to finally bring us check. Service needs to improve to charge these prices.

Great pre theater spot! The food was amazing! We split the beet salad which was so delicious. The capelletti was melt in your mouth...so much flavor. Extensive wine selection and spot on service.

The food was good, but the service was lacking. They forgot not one, but two side items for the table even though we had a specific discussion about them. We also ordered a second bottle of wine before our first bottle was empty. By the time we finished the first bottle and finished our food, the second had still not shown up, so we cancelled it along with the two sides. They blamed a poor system and offered to make up via free desert, but at that point we were done.

Acanto is always a home run. This meal was no exception. Because we were a larger group, Diego made the choices for us. He was diligent about dietary restrictions and bringing a perfect mix of dishes without over serving the group. In a town where there are so many top quality food choices, this mainstay remains creative and relevant.

The restaurant is beautiful inside. However, my rigatoni lacked taste and flavor. The range of teas are rather boring, and the tea I did order, was no longer available. I will not be returning. (I really miss Acanto's predecessor.)

Disappointing. I had specifically informed the waiter that I had an allergy and needed my food to come out separately. The kitchen did not accommodate and I had to send it back for a new plate. The manager essentially blamed me, asking me if I had informed them to bring it out separately. Did he not talk to his staff? And to blame the customer? I had specifically said something, so I knew I was in the right. And my waiter clearly heard me as he said he would inform the kitchen. So I had to send my dish back and wait while other in the party got to eat. No problem. But all they did was apologize, which is t enough given the fact they could have sent me into a very bad state. Allergies are nothing to mess with and can have very serious consequences. I will not eat here again, knowing they dint really respect allergy issues. And to make matters worse, I think they still cross contaminated as I was having some mild reaction for the remainder of the night.

Pasta with lobster is extraordinary. Just don't be fooled by the small dish and order another course. The sauce is intense and very filling!

The food, wine, atmosphere & service add up to a wonderful experience all the way around. Special thanks to the sommelier who went out of his way to help us choose exactly the right wine for our meal and tastes.

My husband and I split the lasagna. There was more than enough and it was delicious. The Black Kale was interesting and not for everyone, but we enjoyed it. (Sorry, I can't remember what our friends had, but I know they liked it.) The wine that was recommended as the "special" was very good and since it was shared by the four of us, the $52 price was very reasonable when you consider the price for a single glass of wine was $13. Oh, and the Peach Sorbet Bellini dessert was yummy as well. The restaurant is smaller than we thought it would be, but it felt intimate vs cramped. We will definitely go back.

Our party of four enjoyed lunch here very much as far as the food goes. Two of us ordered whitefish sandwiches, and two of us ordered the daily risotto special. All were happy with our choices. The sandwiches were tasty and served with a side salad, and the risotto with peas was delicious. Service was not up to par. Our waitress had to be reminded of something someone requested a couple of times. Because the restaurant wasn’t overly crowded, we felt the service could have been better. One of us asked for milk instead of cream for coffee, and it came to the table in a cracked pitcher. We asked for it to be replaced, as we wondered why the restaurant would continue to use such a vessel.

I usually love Acanto, the food experience, the ambiance. This time, I wanted to treat my wife and made a reservation for 2 at 8:30pm. The place was packed with two large groups enjoying their time together. We had to wait a bit until being invited to ge to our table.
We ordered some of our favorite meals, and I must say we were disappointed with the quality for the first time ever. The food was not as tasty as it usually is, almost insipid at times, except the olives! I couldn’t recognize the touch this time, and we didn’t enjoy it as much as we did on prior occasions.
I will come back eventually as I hope it was just a bad day/night this time.

Acanto is consistent with a great menu and wine offerings and great service. Food was delicious. And the atmosphere is warm and inviting, elegant without being stuffy. A great spot for a small group or date night. Our family of four went before the theater and were in and out in plenty of time to walk to the theater. We always have a nice experience there.

Ordered the salad of the day, which was listed as market price. When it arrived, it was tiny, with a bit of prosciutto on top. Then, the bill arrived at $20. I don't think I've ever paid that much for a salad, let alone one with so little protein. Not going to go back, as I can have business lunches in the Loop far more economically.
