The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.
truffled ricotta, prosciutto san daniele, balsamic
Classic Tiramisu** ^
espresso, mascarpone, cocoa, anglaise
shrimp, squid, clams, tomatoes, garlic, evoo
ordered polenta/mushrooms -- way too salty; tiramisu heavy and huge portion
chicken picatta was meh
Risotto cost $30 and was entirely underwhelming. Fish was good. Lunch cost more than $100. Not worth it
Very Noisy room. Difficult to carry on a conversation at our table. Server didn't get our order correct. My Veal was overdone and tough. The mushrooms were uneatable.
Food was excellent. Josh, our server, was great. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Chicago.
Wonderful experience very good food. Lovely ambiance. Attentive service.
Nice ambiance, friendly staff. Food was great but entree came in a very small portion and the pasta I ate tasted a little undercooked. Overall an excellent experience!
Great food and service. The bus service people were quick to clear your dishes. So quick we had to say no a few times. They removed our bread board that we paid for with bread on it and did not ask.
All in all we had a nice dinner.
Great service and the food was delicious. Would definitely return to this restaurant next time I am in Chicago
Great experience, start to finish! Food and service were exceptional! We now live in the area and we will definitely be back
Diego and gis staff always great. We 100% recommend it. Best italian restaurant in Chicago
This is a favorite restaurant for us whenever we visit Chicago. The food is fantastic, and their wine selections are extensive with Italian varietals. Every course in our meal was amazing: appetizer, salad, pasta, and dessert. Our server was top notch: informative, attentive, but not bothersome. The traffic noise on Michigan Avenue was sometimes loud, but did not spoil the overall atmosphere of our meal. We look forward to our next visit.
Always a good experience. Handmade pasta, great salads, great wine selection. One of my favorites when downtown Chicago
My friend & I had a lovely lunch seated outside Acanto. They have installed nice planters between their diners and the sidewalk which provide ample privacy. My friend ordered the pizza & I had the salad of the day. Both were delicious. Our server was knowledgeable, professional & friendly. I highly recommend Acanto!
Staff were very accommodating to us to sit our group together. Service was prompt and they were very attentive. Most importantly the food was delicious!
Yummy home made pasta dishes and thank you for also having gf pasta!
great food, ambience was intimate. great service. can’t say enough good things.
Food was delicious and staff were amazing! We will be back!
Last minute dinner decision was the best decision we made all day! Ask for Josh, he is amazing and definitely get the spaghetti off the summer 2021 menu. Home made pastas are just like Nonna used to make and marinara is on point.
The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely go back.
Love, love, love this restaurant. If you have not tried it, be sure you do.
Two blocks north of the Art Institute, it was a comfortable walk from Symphony Center. Very good food, excellent service on our vist, and given the neighborhood, a good value for a sit down restaurant with some creativity in it's cuisine and an impressive well chosen wine list.
This was better than a place to eat. It was an experience. The dinks were delicious; the food was made with care; the atmosphere was inviting. It was divine. I will return.
Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and the food was great.
The food was incredible, and the staff was amazing to us. Our waiter especially, Alex, was phenomenal and made the experience so much better. I will be coming back!
My go-to spot in the neighborhood!
The food was DELICIOUS and the service was EXCELLENT. As a vegan, I was able to find plenty of options and the chef was quite generous in accomodating my dietary restrictions. Definitely recommend this hidden GEM!!!
Great food, ambience, and service. Definitely recommend if you love Italian. Definitely special occasion
The menu has a variety of fresh food…we especially love fresh pasta dishes!
Phillip was an outstanding guide throughout our amazing meal
Great Italian pasta dishes, get the lamb pasta and good cocktails
Deeply disappointing. The kale salad tasted of nothing at all, not even pepper or salt. The veal ragu had been reduced to a sludge, and the rigatoni was almost raw.
Food was excellent. Wine cellar is well stocked.
As always, delicious fresh food; outstanding service; beautiful room; covid compliant.
Service was great!
I will definitely come back!
Great Italian food with great service. Sat outside along sidewalk separated from passerby’s, the only thing that was unpleasant was the street noise ie passing cars and motorcycles that occasionally have blasting music or load engine noice. That said, overall it was wonderful
Acanto was very good. The food was great and the service was exceptional. The only negative for us was the street noise from people frequently revving their cars & motorcycles. Certainly out of Acanto's control. We would definitely dine there again.
My friend and I had an excellent time at Acanto Friday evening after the concert in Grant Park. The food is always amazing. We shared the frito misto and each had a pasta dish. Our server, Philip, made excellent recommendations. The tiramisu is perfection.
My wife and I dine at a lot of really good restaurants (we enjoy a good meal), but this was a truly exceptional meal. The service was friendly and helpful without being oppressive. The food was truly exceptional - not only authentic, but the tastes were spot on. Our salads were fresh and came well prepared and tasted exceptional. Both of the pasta plates we ordered were wonderful, and the dessert was the perfect endpoint. It was a wonderful meal. We would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants a really nice meal.
This is our favorite place. Food is terrific, the staff is friendly, and the room is beautiful. It is a real pleasure to eat there.
