The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.
truffled ricotta, prosciutto san daniele, balsamic

We usually order the cheese and salami plate along with olives and bread. For two it is enough food for a meal. We totally enjoy that and can take our time leisurely enjoying the array.
The one negative for us was the limited beer options. No draft and only three bottle options.
I know the wine list is huge. A few more beers would help us beer drinkers.
Exception food (misto frito - perfectly cooked octopus and squid; whole fish was outstanding, and the caccio e pepewas the best I have had). Great wine list with an exceptional rare bottle, and enthusiastic help from the somm. Solid unobtrusive service on a busy night. Appreciate them seating my party early very much. Highly recommned.
A wonderful place with heart warmingly delicious food.
And the service was exemplary - truly perfect.
fantastic food and service!!
Great food with the perfect wine thanks to our waitress/sommelier Allison who was charming and wonderful!
EXCELLENT bruschetta! And the Chardonnay was superb—clean and refreshing as a spring rain! Our server was personable, efficient and made great suggestions! I’d come again…and again!
We were there for our 35th wedding anniversary. We sat outside. Our server was delightful and the food delicious.
Our server and the restaurant Manager (Maggie Smith) provided exceptional service!
Very helpful. Shared plates.
Walked past this restaurant many times while going next door. This is the place to stop.
It was amazing!
Verrry enjoyable! We were mistakingly early for our reservation and they accommodated us. Food was absolutely delicious!!
Love this conveniently located restaurant! The setting is private on very busy Michigan Avenue. Try the rigatoni and a glass of wine from their great wine selections.
Great food, great environment! The Polenta and Focaccia bread are a MUST!
Eric at the bar was exceptional, great wine list, food was fantastic and portion sizes were appropriate for a multi-course meal.
The food is so so and also the service. The location is good for Orchestra Hall so it’s too bad that it’s not a better meal. We won’t return.
Acanto has been a favorite restaurant of mine for several years and it never fails!
Lunch outside during these challenging times has been a delight and a safe place to meet friends.
All servers are friendly, helpful and patient! I recommend them all.
Thank you Acanto - I will be back and will spread the good word!
It was great ! Excellent pizza! Great wine and super service.
Delicious food as always, perfect place to celebrate and wind down the day!
Delicious food post-marathon! Quick service as well. Loved that the waiter knew the menu and helped us decide on wine.
All was good! Eating outdoors was lovely!
Loved this place, definitely going back! Food is amazing!
Josh was a terrific host.
Love this restaurant! Great service… friendly but never intrusive. Yummy food and drinks
We sat outside. Noise level better than dining inside. Still, our conversations did compete with the Friday afternoon traffic and ambulance sirens.
What made up for the noise was the delicious food. Your appetizers were stellar!! Loved the bread/crackers (hope you don’t replace them). The fritto misto was tantalizing.
I’d come again for the menu offerings. Oh, Phil, our server was outstanding!! Patient, professional and friendly.
We had a delicious meal, our server was very good. My only problem was with the seating- we arrived on time for our 5 pm reservation, 2 other parties in the entire restaurant, and had a choice of 2 tables - I didn't realize that both would be on the path of the servers and others. Try to avoid the small tables along the west wall.
Also, the bus boys were over-anxious to clear plates while we were still eating, we had to ask them not to 3 times. (I guess this is a preference for some people who want the plates cleared while others are still eating)
Delicious black pepper rigatoni and Super Tuscan wine! Great service at our outside table.
I was a little bit annoyed, small thing, but really damaged my experience at your restaurant. My spouse is going Keto diet, he requested not potatoes on his seafood appetizer and just increased the amount of vegetables. We got punished with $4 for such request. It’s not the $4 dollars at all what bothers me, it’s the lack of good judgment.
But overall a nice experience.
All the best
The food was delicious. Service was good and wine collection is amazing. Great value for money!
Pasta was delicious and the restaurant is quaint. Loved my meal and will definitely return!
We’ve been here multiple times and every time it gets better! Atmosphere is lovely, service is stellar, wine list is spectacular and the food is unbelievable! The carpaccio and penne with lamb ragout is a must! Steve was delightful last night and even brought out a birthday dessert for my husband! We’ll be back!
Our server was a tad too attentive, I’m sure she will learn how to read the table.
We ate outside in their covered sidewalk area. It was separated from the Michigan Ave foot traffic by lovely planters. Even though it was raining quite a bit we stayed perfectly dry and felt safe because everyone was following Covid restrictions. Can't wait to go back!
Wonderful service. Grilled branzino was a standout. Loved the ability to dine al fresco.
Superb dinner with responsive and congenial wait staff. Excellent starters including an unbelievable frito misto. The pasta is always top notch. The protein courses are a select few delicious options. Great wine list - and the bread is wonderful too.
A group of 4 shared appetizers, salad main, courses and sides. Each dish was expertly prepared, beautifully served and most importantly delicious- and accompanied by the Sardinian vermentino bubbles, Aragosta. No words for the delicious polenta and mushrooms! Bravo Acanto for always exceeding expectations!
Third visit in as many months and still a perfect evening. Lovely service, enjoyed a new main course and also a long time favorite. Wonderful wine selection, enjoyed bottle of a completely new varietal. Ambiance was lively but not at all loud or intrusive, so happy to see diners back out enjoying wonderful meals such as those offered by Acanto.
Excellent food! We had risotto made with preserved lemons, which was so great I told my chef sister about it and she made it for herself the same night!
Always enjoy this restaurant! The staff is very accommodating and the food is excellent!
