Across from Millennium Park and along Chicago’s Cultural Mile, Acanto Restaurant + Wine Bar is a favorite destination for those who appreciate approachable and authentic Italian food, an award-winning wine list featuring selections from each of Italy's twenty regions, and an inviting, conversation-friendly dining experience.

In 2017, Acanto received a Jury Prize and 3-Star rating in the World of Fine Wine "World's Best Wine List," and a 2-Glass "Best of Award of Excellence" rating in Wine Spectator.

The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.

Went for lunch, the lobster spaghetti and bruschetta were excellent. Great place for cocktails as well, had a couple negronis that were in the top 3 best I've ever had.

Visited for a business dinner. Rich was our waiter - he was fantastic. The whole staff was very friendly, in fact. My client and I split the lamb ragu and a pizza - totally delicious - and the wine Rich recommended was a perfect pairing.

Service and food were amazing! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and I’m so glad we came here. It’s been a long time since we’ve dined at a place where we are still talking about how great the food was almost a week later. So good! Our server was so knowledgeable of the wine and food menus and so nice! We were one of maybe 2 other tables in there so we talked with him all night. Such a kind person. We are definitely coming back.

We went to Acanto for a date night. We arrived during Restaurant Week so we were able to sample the fixed price menu. The food was very good as was the service. The only issue we had was that the restaurant area is a bit on the small/cozy side so we felt right on top of the people next to us.

This has become my favorite pre-theatre spot in downtown Chicago. Great Italian. I had one of my favorites - their Rigatoni - as my entrée. Acanto never disappoints.

Very good restaurant but a bit pricey for a regular business lunch spot.

Restaurant never did quite fill up so was not rushed to leave and did not feel guilty about lingering over hot tea as our dessert.

The tables are very close together so it's hard to keep to your own space if there are people next to you. I felt like I was on top of the group next to me and could hear every word they were saying. Food is good but very overpriced.

This was our pick for an evening in Chicago and it didn’t disappoint. Great location near Palmer House. Limited choices for Restaurant Week, but we thoroughly enjoyed. We didn’t feel at all rushed like we often do during a busy evening. Service was very attentive. Fish entrees were delicious and served very hot. Our only criticism was that the hazelnut cream puffs were slightly overdone, but we loved the decadent treat anyway.

Excellent service!
Both the fluke, and the pizza were "primo."
And, the desserts were exquisite, definitely worth returning for.

We went during restaurant week, and the whole meal was delicious. The real star was the mushroom soup. It was so delicious, I wanted to go and tell everyone about it. Fortunately, I limited myself to my lunch companions who wholeheartedly agreed.

The ambiance was perfect for the time of evening and what I was looking for. Service was great and bartender couldn't have been more spot on with the recommendations. I was only in Chicago for a few days and it happened to be during Restaurant Week, all of it was unplanned and I was I very pleased I chose Acanto. It was a table d'hote menu and that finished with the most incredible dessert that I quickly consumed without taking a proper picture first.

Next time I'm in Chicago, I'm definitely going back to Acanto.

Nice ambiance - smaller restaurant for catching up with friends and drinking great wine! Location on Michigan Avenue is a plus for sightseeing and theatre attendees. Food was good but not exceptional.

Really enjoyed ourselves at Acanto. Aroncini appetizers were nicely sized and delicious. Pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. We had spaghetti , lasagna and rigatoni and everyone loved their meal. Extensive wine list. Diego was our server and was on top of his game with suggestions.
