Perfect For:
  • Pre/post Theatre
  • Good for a Date
  • Notable Wine List
Across from Millennium Park and along Chicago’s Cultural Mile, Acanto Restaurant + Wine Bar is a favorite destination for those who appreciate approachable and authentic Italian food, an award-winning wine list featuring selections from each of Italy's twenty regions, and an inviting, conversation-friendly dining experience.

In 2017, Acanto received a Jury Prize and 3-Star rating in the World of Fine Wine "World's Best Wine List," and a 2-Glass "Best of Award of Excellence" rating in Wine Spectator.

The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.

Pasta with lobster is extraordinary. Just don't be fooled by the small dish and order another course. The sauce is intense and very filling!

A good time was had by all. We have vegetarian and gluten free so tough to find all good options under one roof. Happy with service too.

The food, wine, atmosphere & service add up to a wonderful experience all the way around. Special thanks to the sommelier who went out of his way to help us choose exactly the right wine for our meal and tastes.

My husband and I split the lasagna. There was more than enough and it was delicious. The Black Kale was interesting and not for everyone, but we enjoyed it. (Sorry, I can't remember what our friends had, but I know they liked it.) The wine that was recommended as the "special" was very good and since it was shared by the four of us, the $52 price was very reasonable when you consider the price for a single glass of wine was $13. Oh, and the Peach Sorbet Bellini dessert was yummy as well. The restaurant is smaller than we thought it would be, but it felt intimate vs cramped. We will definitely go back.

Great spot to go before a Friday show. The pizza was tasty. We loved the pork chop and the coconut gelato was out of this world

Nice menu with interesting appetizers and delicious desserts, good food, a nice wine list, and attentive service. A little noisy, but still possible to have conversation. A good pre-concert choice.

Our party of four enjoyed lunch here very much as far as the food goes. Two of us ordered whitefish sandwiches, and two of us ordered the daily risotto special. All were happy with our choices. The sandwiches were tasty and served with a side salad, and the risotto with peas was delicious. Service was not up to par. Our waitress had to be reminded of something someone requested a couple of times. Because the restaurant wasn’t overly crowded, we felt the service could have been better. One of us asked for milk instead of cream for coffee, and it came to the table in a cracked pitcher. We asked for it to be replaced, as we wondered why the restaurant would continue to use such a vessel.

I usually love Acanto, the food experience, the ambiance. This time, I wanted to treat my wife and made a reservation for 2 at 8:30pm. The place was packed with two large groups enjoying their time together. We had to wait a bit until being invited to ge to our table.
We ordered some of our favorite meals, and I must say we were disappointed with the quality for the first time ever. The food was not as tasty as it usually is, almost insipid at times, except the olives! I couldn’t recognize the touch this time, and we didn’t enjoy it as much as we did on prior occasions.
I will come back eventually as I hope it was just a bad day/night this time.

Acanto is consistent with a great menu and wine offerings and great service. Food was delicious. And the atmosphere is warm and inviting, elegant without being stuffy. A great spot for a small group or date night. Our family of four went before the theater and were in and out in plenty of time to walk to the theater. We always have a nice experience there.

Ordered the salad of the day, which was listed as market price. When it arrived, it was tiny, with a bit of prosciutto on top. Then, the bill arrived at $20. I don't think I've ever paid that much for a salad, let alone one with so little protein. Not going to go back, as I can have business lunches in the Loop far more economically.

Nice place, reasonable QPR. Only criticism (as I told the manager on my way out), is that the red wines (I had two glasses of different ones) were served too warm.

My wife and I went to Acanto after seeing a matinee at the Oriental. We had 5:45 reservations but arrived early at 5 and were seated promptly. We had an appetizer, split a pasta, two dinners, two desserts, a cocktail and a bottle of wine for $200. The meal took 2 hours. Service was attentive but not rushed. The food was tremendous. It deserves the highest recommendation. With that said, I hope I can still get a reservation.

Really disappointed. Went with a group of twelve. Menu did not match what is shown on website, so vegan and others in our group could not get what they planned, portions were crazy small especially for the cost of the pasta dishes, bread was not provided (never seen that at an Italian restaurant), and service was really slow. Look for a better option.

Easter Sunday Brunch for two. Small crowd in the restaurant overall. Great wine list!

Service was good, not overwhelming for Sunday afternoon.

Food was very nice, but not exciting! Maybe dining outdoors come summer will help...

Went here because we were at the Art Institute and could get a reservation within half an hour. Lunch was absolutely wonderful -- our favorite meal of our four-day trip to Chicago. Veal meatballs were outstanding. Service very professional. Clean bathrooms. Will definitely return.

The service is great, prompt and polite, with attention to details. The ambience is warm and welcoming. The design is unnoticeable but the whole atmosphere is cozy. The wine list is impressive. I wish they had a wider variety of food with more healthy choices. If you like good pasta, this place may be for you. However there were only two options for a salad, which is actually the same salad with either shrimps or chicken. Unfortunately, only farm-raised fish was available. My friend and I had panini, and the bread was too dry and firm but potatoes on the side and fresh leaves of baby spinach and arugula with vinaigrette on top were good.
They make really good coffee!

We absolutely enjoyed our dining experience at Acanto. We walked by and decided to have lunch there since everywhere else nearby was very crowded. It was one of the best meal we had while visiting Chicago! The bruschetta was amazing! It was so good that we decided to come back the next day before taking our flight back home. My friend ordered a pasta dish and it was delicious! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Desserts were also very good! Definitely a place that we will come back to everytime we are in town.
