In 2017, Acanto received a Jury Prize and 3-Star rating in the World of Fine Wine "World's Best Wine List," and a 2-Glass "Best of Award of Excellence" rating in Wine Spectator.
The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.
All of us enjoyed all aspects of our meal. Wonderful!
Amazing food, truly authentic al dente fresh pasta, delicious sauces with quality ingredients. Excellent.
I will eat here everytime I'm in Chicago. With the location, I figured it would be touristy and not great Italian, but it was so delicious I ate there again the next day. Outstanding Italian wine list with a wide variety of cost options. The bartender was also very knowledgeable. I had the lamb ragu sauce and my wife had the cacio e pepe (best I've ever had). Can't recommend enough.
We were in Chicago for the Marathon & a friend recommended Acanto. We loved it: the warm intimacy, relaxed air, wonderful food, cocktails & wine list. The food was creative & prepared with care. The portions were the perfect size - not overly large as in some Italian restaurants. I had the swordfish with a lovely orange sauce with roasted onions & crispy spinach. We felt like we were in a country Italian villa - very relaxing. This was our favorite meal in Chicago.
Great food, fantastic service
Chicago marathon pre race meal
This restaurant never fails to impress. The cocktails are always well crafted and the food is caringly prepared. My favorite “let’s go out for your birthday”spot.
Great food & service
Great food and great service. They were able to get a party of eight out in time for a concert without anyone feeling rushed. We’ll be back.
Go to Italian place in a very convenient location. The bucatini is where it's at.
The cheese plate was wonderful, and the bottle of wine we chose (which was the wine of the week) was perfect. The homemade pasta was tasty, and we enjoy our fish entrees. The sole was a bit overpriced for the portion size.
Our waiter was wonderful. Wine and food was outstanding. And we enjoyed ourselves.
Fantastic food and service
We initially enjoyed our meal at Acanto, but despite letting the restaurant know ahead of time & informing our server that my husband has a dairy allergy, our salad was presented with Parmesan cheese. It was removed and replaced once we pointed it out to the staff. We were assured that the Salmon dish would be safe for him, but later that night he became ill and displayed symptoms due to dairy intake. We are not sure if it was the salmon, the vegetables that were plated with the salmon or the salad, but it certainly made a downward turn to an otherwise pleasant evening.
Very nice atmosphere, good food and great service!
Dined early evening before a show. Restaurant is small but has indoor and outdoor seating. Nice decor. Lots of menu items and drinks to choose from. Lemon cocktail I had was not good. Returned and replaced with one of many specialty wines that was good. Had the fennel sausage pizza and black kale salad. Pizza was spicy but not flavorful. Salad was bitter and needed more sweetness. Caprice salad looked good. Fare was ok. Service good. Food didn’t impress. Passed on desserts. Nothing impressive and dinner made us wary. Also kind of pricey. Over $80 for 2 cocktails, 2 salads and 1 pizza. Didn’t experience what reviews suggested.
I've been here a few times now and it is always great food and welcoming staff. I recommend the mushroom pizza- delicious. but everything I've had there (including tasting friends food :) has been excellent. Recommend
We had a business dinner with a group of 11 at this place. The food and service were wonderful! Even with a larger group, the staff was on top of making sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. The food was delicious as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I loved everything about Acanto! The ambiance, cuisine and service were fantastic. The decor and lighting was warm and inviting. I had the chicken piccata, which was lemon fresh with asparagus. Our server was professional and personable. A great dining experience!
Amazing waiter, amazing food with amazing wine ! Just go with amazing friends and enjoy 😉
Our table was held for us even though our concert was let out late. I called and the staff couldn’t have been more understanding. Our friends had never been there before. They all loved the food and wine suggestions made by our server (Sadly I didn’t catch his name). I will continue to return to my favorite eatery on Michigan Ave.
Insalata di Mare - one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
All good except the quantity of food in plate was too small.
Very good food. Brought me the wrong dish and immediately knew it and said mine was coming. We all enjoyed the extra dish. Waiter was friendly. Never felt rushed
Amazing food and ambiance. Change in waiter early in the visit without issue. This was a second visit, and food was even better than I remembered. We shared several dishes, and everything was exquisite. Instalatta di polpetta, ribollita, risotto day special. We were satisfied with our late lunch selections, but couldn’t resist the apricot polenta dessert! Delighted beyond expectation! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Can’t wait to go again.
The food was very good. Nice atmosphere. The only complaint I have is that the server did not refill our coffee.
Every single dishes we had was very salty and the food in general was flavorless.
As always, they hit it out of the park. The 3 liter wine pour that night was a treat. The almond cookie for dessert, is a thing of beauty. Pair the cookies with the reasonably priced gelato. Favorite restaurant for pre-symphony dining.
I read quite a few reviews of this restaurant which included occasional complaints of mediocre service. But we went anyway, partly because of the many comments on atmosphere. Our service was absolutely excellent and the food superb. Looking around, everyone seemed to be having the same experience. Hence I recommend you ignore past negative comments in reviews and focus on food, service and atmosphere. This was a superb and relaxed dining experience, even by high end Chicago standards.
Great food, libations, excellent service, wonderful hospitality.
Excellent. Bartender was great. Server was excellent. Food was perfect. Couldn’t have been any better. My date and I loved it. Phillip was fantastic!
This was our first visit to Acanto and we loved it! The food was delicious and not overly expensive. They have a wonderful gluten free selection and I just loved the peach semi-freddo. It was my birthday and the restaurant gave me my dessert free. Oh, and our waiter was wonderful too. I will definitely be back!
Great food and ambiance!
Service was excellent as was good and ambiance
Nice selection of Italian wines, and delicious menu. Went on a Friday night and it was crowded and had a good vibe.
Our server and food was excellent
Daily salad a bit boring. Pizza great as always. Very nice place for lunch or dinner on michigan ave
