The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.
Billy never disappoints! Always great service and fantastic menu!
A reliable spot pre-symphony. Service attentive and timely.
We are vegetarian and came here not only for the outstanding atmosphere, but also for the very excellent side dishes we have had in the past. While service was excellent and atmosphere continued to please, the vegetables disappointed a bit with prep a bit off . Next time hoping it will be outstanding!
Went to see a shoe at CSO
Met a friend for lunch at Acanto. It was my first time there and it won't be the last! I had an incredible soup with white beans and sausage. I will be going back for another bowl! Very nice atmosphere and wonderful service.
We tried Sunday brunch and ordered bruschetta and yogurt as starters and Rigatoni as main dishes. The bruschetta and yogurt were both great. Tender taste and excellent presentation. However, the Rigatoni, which supposed to be their classics, was not impressive at all. The taste was good, but the pasta was too dry and hard to chew. Don't know why it happened to an iconic Italian restaurant located in the best location of Chicago. This kind of flaws were completely unacceptable. Service was great and attentive. I think I understand why not so many people came over here for brunch. But depending on its pasta quality, I probably won't come back for dinner.
fantastic food, everything was amazing
Great food, wine and service! Thanks for a great evening!
We had wonderful service! The wine selection was varied and the food was delicious!
We wanted to try somewhere new for a night out in the city before seeing Mean Girls... was recommended to go here by a friend and it truly was an awesome experience. Staff was great, ambiance was very relaxed but still a nicer place to dine and AWESOME people watching on Michigan Ave!
We each had the salad special of arugula, beets, walnuts, creamed Gorgonzola. Topped mine with the salmon (a bit over cooked), his was topped with chicken. We were celebrating my friend’s birthday and the waiter, who was very attentive, treated my friend with a bday dessert of pistachio ice cream topping a lovely cake.
Really good food. The guy who dropped our cheeseboard at our table did not even explain the cheeses. Other than that would recommend if you love wine and Italian cuisine
This was the second time we dined at Acanto and it was equally as enjoyable as the last time. Great service and the food is delish! Reasonably priced with good happy hour options. We are inexperienced with wine (we deal more in whiskey and cocktails) and the server did a great job in assisting our selection.
I have been there multiple times, it's one of my favorite places in Chicago; unfortunately today's caccio e pepe was below expectations.
Great New Years Eve dinner! Food and wine pairings were spot on. You expect to pay premium prices on New Years which often feels like less for more but Acanto more than delivered! Be back soon!
Great service, excellent food!
New Year’s Eve meal was delicious and varied. The chef executed on making the meal special.
Wonderful service and terrific food. We highly recommend this great place
Perfect for pre theater. Good food, nice ambiance, the seafood salad and pistachio macaroons were particularly good. Kind of pricey- but very good
Was looking for a special restaurant to have dinner at and was not disappointed. Excellent service and amazing food
The Pizza was a surprise. The crust was amazing. Great location right on Michigan.
If you have not had the sincere culinary pleasure of dining at Acanto, just once in your life, then please remedy this immediately. Casual upscale dining at its very finest. The Sommelier, Ryan, is the cherry on top of a dining journey here. Stop reading this and go eat there. NOW!
Food was not good. Pappardelle tasted bad!
The homemade pasta was superb.
I love this place. After all the hustle of Michigan Avenue, this is a great respite. Pleasant, warm, cozy room. Great service. Great food. Bruschetta with shaved ham & truffle cream sauce, or Ruth tomatoes & mozzarella: completely different & both great. Lobster with spaghetti had a lovely light yet rich cream cause, other pastas also amazing. Many good dessert and salad choices, nice wines by the glass. Have also enjoyed lunch here on other occasions.
We had a very nice dinner. The strawberry tomato puree with a touch of cayenne which accompanied the gran pecorino was superb - wonderfully creamy texture unlike anything we had had before. The insalata de mare was good - quite tart (which was to our liking but perhaps not to everyone's). The pasta in both our main courses was cooked just right - you can tell the pasta is made on the premises daily - veal meatballs quite filling as was the lamb ragu. Tables are relatively small, noise level high, service impeccable.
Intimate for Michigan Avenue. Very happy with willingness to split some items. Upscale Italian from N toS and even Sardegna. Excellent service. Beautiful in house desserts- gelato is the deal of the menu. We’ll be back
Great Service.. food was good.. but not great. We would give it a second chance. Cheese board was the highlight of the meal.
A favorite neighborhood restaurant. We live in a touristy neighborhood. Acanto is the only neighborhood restaurant where they remember you and greet you like friends. The food is delicious and the restaurant is warm and welcoming.
Intimate room with delicious food and attentive service. Not what one would expect right on Michigan avenue. Great choice in the Loop.
one of the best in Chicago at the upper mid range price point. overall outstanding
Great food and great service! The atmosphere was incredible!
Food alone would bring me back. The ambiance was stylish and warm - a comfortable place for our date.
Manager and staff were great. Had a wonderful time!
Fantastic dinner before symphony which ne
Best service we have had in our 50 years of fine dining! Tony is a true gem! We came back for the food, and in the future we will request to be seated in his section. All other staff very attentive as well. Food was first class. A little noisy/congested sitting near the bar and kitchen entrance. Great place = very busy.
Excellent service and tasty meal!
Dinner before Hamilton
The variety of olives for appetizer were great. We also loved the apricot polenta cake for dessert--it was a gourmet treat.
Was very grateful to have such a delicious gluten free meal at an Italian restaurant. Food was so good, creative and good size portions. Just be ready to drop a good amount of money. Our bill was close to $100 and that was for two, without any liquor and no dessert.
