In 2017, Acanto received a Jury Prize and 3-Star rating in the World of Fine Wine "World's Best Wine List," and a 2-Glass "Best of Award of Excellence" rating in Wine Spectator.
The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus, the flowery leaf featured prominently in Roman architecture. Famed architect Louis Sullivan used Acanthus in his distinctive terra cotta ornamentation found on the facade of the historically-landmarked building that houses Acanto.
This restaurant is a winner in all regards. Highly recommended for a special night out.
Delicious! Our server, Derek, was fantastic and made for a wonderful evening! We had a great time and I would highly recommend to others!
Had a lovely meal but the prices were pretty high for what you get - especially the drinks. I've never seen a 1/2 glass of wine on a menu for $11-12. The full glass was not very full!
Good food + friendly servers = a great Brunch experience! The square table was abit tight between the salad bowls and our entree plates. Otherwise, everything was great. I would definitely come back to Acanto.
My fiancee and I ate here because we had a $10 AlaCard. It was a very pleasant date-night experience.
The service was polite and exceedingly efficient, always there when needed but never hovering or obtrusive.
The food was all excellent. We had the stuffed dates appetizer, brussel sprouts side, and lemon tart dessert. I had the seafood tagliatelle and she had the chicken marsala.
The meal was not cheap by any means, even with $10 off, but the quality and service was well worth the price.
We waited 25' for a 6:00 pm reservation. That was bad enough, but it was insulting that no apology was offered. The food and table service were fine, but I won' be going back. We had symphony tickets and felt rushed.
Great service/food! Think I ate something that upset my stomach but it tasted great so who cares?!
Pasta is all homemade and delicious.
Must try the tiramisu !
Waiter took about 20 min to come to our table. Forgot to order our oysters that he spent 3 min telling us about. First appetizer took 15-20 min to come out. Food was good but not fantastic.
We had a reunion of friends and the food, service and ambiance was super. Unbelievable wine list.
Another excellent meal prior to the CSO concert. Was in and out in a little over an hour. Ordered a couple appetizers and three meals for four people and it was definitely enough.
Great service and great prix fixe menu for Valentine’s Day.
wonderful dinner and superb service. so nice to have such great food so near the symphony
This is currently my favorite restaurant. The food and service are unbeatable. A tadd bit pricey though.
Awesome flavors in to its imaginative Chestnut Agnolotti - duck confit, celery root, duck jus, with balsamic di Modena - which parired perfectly with their wine of the month, an elegant Frescobaldi Toscano Sangiovese/Cabernet. Arrived in time for a happy hour bruschetta appetizer. The bartender made visits to the tables for wine consultations. The busboy had a careful eye on each table. My glass of water never ran dry. Plates were removed just as I finished - and he always checked first to see if I was done. A lovely room overlooking Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park. It was a wonderful winter refuge.
Small Quaint beautiful setting. Wine of the week was wonderful.
Food was good but not representative of the pricing. The desserts were fabulous.
Outstanding food and great ambiance! Service not so much, as our waiter was taken from our station to tend bar after our entrees arrived, and no one took over for him. The subsequent delay meant we had to take our check to the hostess in order to be on time for an 8PM show. Maitre d' and hostess apologized, and also offered my wife a full entree after her doggy-bag was lost in a kitchen mishap.
It's not easy to find a "cute" restaurant on Michigan Avenue, but Acanto fit the bill. It felt very cosy and intimate. The food was quite good, but honestly I'd probably return for the atmosphere and not for the food.
Great place, cozy yet energetic atmosphere, and great service. Highly recommend.
Awesome as always. A very fun respite so convenient and close to everything!
Went for lunch and had a fabulous pork tenderloin panini. The green tea almondine was also lovely. Great ambiance too.
Enjoyed the small restaurant ambiance and service. Our Restaurant Week menu choices were excellent. Will definitely go back to this gem.
Went during Restaurant Week. Will definitely be back
Food was wonderful! Our server was attentive and made great recommendations and spoiled us with an extra dessert for my friend’s Birthday 🎈
100% 5 stars all around. Food, atmosphere and service were outstanding! This will be my new go-to place in the Loop. Whether having lunch or happy hour with friends. You won't be disappointed!
Food was superb and the service was stellar. I think our server’s name was Philip and he was so friendly.
Amazing! Great atmosphere, service and stellar food. And it doesn’t break the bank! A new fave!!
We came for restaurant week. Food was incredible, waiter was very thoughtful and attentive. We had a great time!
The service there was really good. Probably it's hidden place, plus cold weather, not a lot people were there. I don't know why most people who dine there were senior citizens... This makes my husband and I felt a little wired... Food was ok. The presentation is better than the taste. My husband had pork, tasted too strong. My fish was ok. Not mind blowing.
We went there for the Chicago Restaurant Week and the food was worse than average. Nothing had any special taste or anything Italian. Everything tasted bland. The restaurant looks nice and cozy and the service was ok, but the level of food is way below average.
OMG what a fabulous place! Our meals were fantastic, beautifully prepared and incredibly delicious. We've been raving about the dinner our entire 45 minute drive home from the city. This is a perfect pick for a classy yet comfy post-theater meal. We will definitely make a point to dine here again!!
We loved Acanto! We stopped in for snacks before an afternoon show at the Symphony Center; the cheese board and charcuterie selection were top notch. Friendly, prompt service. We will be back!
We went to brunch during Restaurant Week. Overall an amazing experience. The food is delicious and creative. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and will go back again soon.
Wonderful meal. Great place to have a cocktail as well.
We went during restaurant week. I had the sea bass and my husband had the rigatoni. The Italian wedding soup was the best of the kind I ever had. Our waiter was professional and quite accommodating- went out of his way to answer my question about an ingredient.
Nice atmosphere, and reasonable noise level. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu; food was good but nothing exceptional. I would have expected better for Restaurant Week. Stick with the tried and true on the regular menu.
The food was really good. Very fresh authentic ingredients.
Excellent lunch and dinner place in the Loop. Every meal has been satisfying and enjoyable.
