Wonderful creative food and lovely ambiance!
Moussaka was delicious.
Generous happy hour also.
The dinner was for 4, not 3 as indicated in email. It was a little noisy, but when we asked that the sound be lowered, that was done.
They didn’t have our reservation confirmed, the bartender was rude and the whole restaurant staff seemed weeded even though they weren’t that busy. There are too many good restaurants for them not to get their service on point. The food was excellent, service not so much.
Great watering hole for wine and beer to meet neighbors far and near. If you live nearby, you'd be wise to join us for good conversation. If driving, park on the street, you'd be wise to take bus or metro.
I was recommended this restaurant in my neighborhood. However, the wait staff (one woman, seemed to be Russian. Since she was young, these were not Soviet slovenly ways) made the experience unpleasant.
- she slathered mayo on my sandwich without checking
- she spilled water, while pouring, and didn’t clean it up, until we asked her to!
- she had an indifferent, bored, aspect, and seemed to find us, the only customers, annoying
I have been to Acacia several times and usually enjoyed it but this time everything was off. It was a quiet evening with few people in the restaurant but to my surprise they had already run out of the lamb special. So I hastily ordered a strip steak with Brussels sprouts. It was awful! The meat was full of inedible gristle everywhere I cut it, and the Brussels sprouts were burned to a crisp. So mainly I just ate the mashed potatoes. My friend ordered the tuna special and instead they gave her trout. They forgot about my husband’s order of trout. It occurred to me that what they really forgot was my friend’s tuna. My husband and I ordered a mushroom tart as appetizer. It came smothered with very tough cooked greens (I guess kale) hiding what didn’t look like a mushroom tart underneath. It was just mush.
The wine and tiramisu were good and the owner was very nice, but I don’t think I will go back to this restaurant again after my very disappointing dinner.
Tasty food and great portions! Come hungry.
The waiter was very inexperienced and slow. The food was awful. Over cooked or cold. Will not return
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. They are also very good neighbors - always involved & supportive in the community. This was an old friends' gathering, and we savored a quiet table outside under the grape leaves on a Friday night - a rare find!! Plus parking is very simple.
Stopped by for happy hour with a friend last week and had a lovely two-hour chat accompanied by a delicious meal. Loved the ambiance — especially the outdoor seating — and the service was excellent. My only complaint was that the restaurant only served happy hour at the bar (which was full) and the front section of outside seating, which was all reserved, so we had to move away from the stunning outdoor area in order to order off the happy hour menu, which I thought was a pretty lame rule. Yummy burgers and hummus, though, and great drink prices!
Always reliable, with a great menu of small plates.
The restaurant was empty which seemed odd for a Saturday evening with great weather. We ordered 2 fish entrees. The fish in both was cooked well & flavorful. The accompaniments for both dishes were disappointing though edible. Our waiter seemed inexperienced so we were glad it was a slow night.
We ate outside on the terrace and it was beautiful. The service was exceptional.
I recently changed my drivers license to D.C. and the DMV issued a temporary license which I have used at several restaurants already. Acacia's waitress and manager both refused to serve me a glass of wine stating it was not a valid form of license. Instead, they told me to share a glass of wine with my date. I felt that they were extremely rude and condescending. I will not be returning.
The new chef does wonders. Everything we ordered was delicious. Special kudos for the garlic shrimp.
My partner and I went to Acacia before attending a concert at an embassy nearby, and made a reservation with about an hour to spare. I mentioned to the server that we were pressed for time, and we got excellent, efficient service and a delightful meal with interesting wine (for her) and beer (for me), and we were in an out within 60 minutes. We both want to go back to Acacia when we are NOT presed for time!
the food was better than I expected. the server was honest and very pleasant. overall, it was a perfect, inexpensive very good meal.
There was a wide range of selections, and everything proved to be delicious. The salmon teriyaki and apricot and lemon chicken were particularly good. The pistachio cake for dessert was enough for three to share, and delivered on taste and texture. Acacia has become a real neighborhood gem.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! The ambience of this place is very weird. They had a disco ball and electronic euro music blaring in a casual bistro setting. Food was ok, nothing special. Our waitress was sweet, but management is absolutely atrocious. The manager and owner were extremely unprofessional and downright rude to my friends and I when we went in for a casual dinner on a Friday night. The manager offered us shots (which were disgusting) and sat with us chatting and then when the bill came and we questioned why we were charged for the shots that he offered (meanwhile the rest of our bill was $230+) he went ballistic and made a scene. He demanded we leave after paying and it was overall embarrassing and unnecessary. These people have zero idea what customer service is it was a horrible experience.
Very good seasoning and preparation of both main pasta dish and a couple of meat based small plates. Low key and charming service from a young lady who was covering entire dining room at a quiet time.
Acacia has become my "go to" place for casual evenings with friends. Gluten free options are a big plus. Basics are done very well and the specials provide variety. Great spot!
Lovely room and welcoming staff. Excellent dinner. A wonderful neighborhood spot.
My daughter just moved into the neighborhood. What a delightful find. She will be back and I will be back when I visit, but only if I call first!
Really terrible service. The waitress was amiable and promised we'd be out within the hour as we needed. With only two other tables occupied she still did not. I even saw our dishes being put out on the serving ledge from the kitchen. Still she did not bring them and was not otherwise occupied. It was maddening. Our party of five was frantic because we had to be elsewhere. We finally were served when another waitress clocked in and immediately brought the now cooling food. We could not dine but had to gobble up our meals and race off. I will never go here again.
terrific value and excellent food, gracious service. Wine list was half priced the night we were there and fixed price dinner is a great deal
We booked this location based on outdoor dining and the menu viewed online. However the weather conditions just before we arrived prevented our Al Fresco. Our waitress seated us near a window and the menu selections was very good with lots of healthy choices. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner which was much appreciated especially since I eat slowly and my son had a lot of talking to do. Food, wine and desserts were all good. Salmon was good and the sauteed asparagus spears we excellent. Also the spinach tapas was good.
The waitress was lovely but I had specified not to have certain ingredients which were used. I never send food back but did in this case and what came back included the same ingredient and was of even poorer quality. They didn't charge me but it as a disappointing experience.
We ate here on the later side (8:00) on a Thursday night. I liked my veggie pizza with the fresh mozarella, but my husband and friend said the salmon was only ok. Service was fine and atmosphere was nice. Outside looked very nice but it was hot so we ate inside. I'd go back for pizza.
Acacia Bistro is a hidden gem on Connecticut. Fine ambience--the tapas are best. The owner really cares about your experience.
The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and delicious. The pistachio mousse cake is out of this world. The wine selection is great...
Our group of four had risotto and pizza, with a bottle of red. Food and wine were both thoroughly delicious. Ambiance was nice, but pretty loud- older bar crowd was pretty rowdy, but it is a wine bar, so no complaints. Service was very attentive, but not particularly warm -servers or host never smiled once, looked annoyed at times. Having said this, they still never missed a beat, and overall this was a great neighborhood find. Would go back.
Waiter completely ignored us, despite us having reservations and there being almost nobody else in the restaurant. After being asked to seat ourselves, we were more than a little peeved. So when we went ca. 10 minutes without being asked what our drink orders were, we decided to leave and go to a place with better service.
Comfortable neighborhood place. Ambience nothing special but food quite good and service efficient . Went in week night. Appetizers (mushrooms, spinach ) both excellent . Eggplant pizza good .
We love the wine pairing menu. The wines are tailored to fit your food and your taste. The owner is knowledgeable, personable and easy to chat with about food and wine. It was a delightful evening on Valentine's Day. Really appreciated that they accept reservations.
Acacia hits the spot on a chilly night for a quick romantic dinner, or on a balmy summer evening when lingering on the lush patio feels a little like Europe. The owner makes guests feel welcome, and the food keeps getting better every time we go. The wine list is pretty extensive, although I'd like a few more wines by the glass available. The mushroom risotto is delicious. Several large groups were there Sat. night, and while there was a nice buzz, the dining room was not loud, and the service remained attentive. We don't have a lot of options in Van Ness, and we're grateful for Acacia!
Excellent service, both from the hostess and server. Both very attentive!
I have been there for dinner and lunch. Excellent small plates, very good wine list, and moderate-low prices. Match this with attentive service. Acacia Bistro is a winner!
Warm vibe, good food and very good service and we'll be back.
