Abstract Table is a permanent dinner series that offers conscious fine dining without boundaries or pretention. The multi-course tasting menu combines Japanese influences with unexpected global flavors every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. The 'Lightening Strike' menu was inspired by Greene and Kwitkor’s appreciation for the harshness of the Winter that both humans and nature endure. Evoking stark, bold and beautiful flavors and compositions. Menu highlights include: Duck breast, thyme pound cake, mushroom demi-glace, cranberyy; Winter vegetable chowder, ocean trout mousse, pink peppercorn crackling; citrus upside down cake, creme fraiche ice cream, white chocolate, lime pop rocks.

Our family had the Oakland restaurant week menu which was delicious but the portion size was ridiculously small for $40 3 courses. We were all left feeling hungry and had to go to another restaurant to eat afterwards. We are thin people and used to fine dining, Michelin star type or tapas restaurants. We travel to Europe twice a year and eat at many establishments which have pre fixe menus. The food quality and flavors were fine and we enjoyed it, but can’t understand why the portions were so small. Sadly we can’t recommend this place to anyone or will come back again. Again we’re not looking for buffet huge sized portions, just something more reasonable sized portions for $40 each plus tip and tax.

We tried it during restaurant week. It was only 3 courses and they did not up the portions so it did not feel like it was enough food. I get it’s a “discount” from their typical $65 for 5 courses, but it’s not much of a concession since they took out 2 courses. Plus their regular menu just did not look that interesting. They more than made up for it by the big mark up in drinks. $18 for a glass of OK Brut rose was definitely over priced. We may consider going back if the next menu looks more interesting but not dying to.

Went there for Oakland restaurant week, they offered a 3-course menu. The food was delicious and really well presented. The portions were very small so after the meal we were still hungry. I believe they offer 5- and 7-course menus, which sound amazing and are probably more filling.

Nice presentation. Pretty food but bland. Flavors were vague. Eating off tiles from Home Depot not nice.

It is a pre fixe menu. We had the seven course. Each dish is seasonal. Each is wonderfully creative, presented beautifully. Service informed and friendly. This is is the space of Gastropig, so no tablecloths. The intersection of creative, gorgeous, seasonal dishes with a casual space is very Oakland. (Except that they can't have cocktails, just wine.)

We were looking forward to this dinner. While the service was great, we felt the food and experience was only moderately good. The portions were quite small, so the whole meal left us somewhat still hungry. I didn’t feel like the ingredients or dishes were particularly innovative. There wasn’t anything to write home about or that especially stood out. As such, I wouldn’t really recommend this place considering the cost.

Not trying to shame or come off as vindictive at all but, what a disappointment.

1. Each dish was pre fabricated and only finished once ready to serve.

2. Each dish was cool to Luke warm.

3. Not once did the wait staff check in with us and our experience.

4. The lighting was at full blast, penetrating cafeteria esq. For a dinner of seven courses that you want to be mood setting, poor at best.

5. We made sure to look at others during the dinning experience to make sure we weren’t the crazy ones, confirmed we weren’t.

6. HomeDepot tiles as serving dishes?! Really? At least step it up and use solid stone.

We’re not immature when it coming to exploring new foods, this was truly a disappointment.

I had a great experience. It was truly experimental dining. The presentation was phenomenal. I think if they transform the concept into an actual restaurant it could improve. Overall looking forward to the next menu update.

The food here is incredible - creative and delicious. We were impressed and delighted with the flavors and presentation for every course. The value is outstanding for the tasting menu! We made our own “wine pairing” since there isn’t one, but all the wine was very good as well. The ambience was just ok since it’s a pop up restaurant in the Gastropig space. Ambience could be greatly improved by lowering the lights a bit. Service was phenomenal and they remembered it was our anniversary and even comped our first glass of wine. We will definitely be back!!

Innovative and delightful, we were thrilled with our spur of the moment decision to book at Abstract Table. Reading reviews, we were prepared to be wowed by the 7 course meal and it did not disappoint.

One of our seasonal dishes included baby corn elote and I could not get enough! The meal was thoughtfully paced and we cleaned every plate from start to finish.

I had no idea any chefs in Oakland were doing this kind of food and it was exciting to experience although worrisome that it was not very busy on a Saturday night.

It’s a splurge meal you don’t have to dress up for, best of both worlds!

Not sure how to begin...just not good all around. The first dish...Himachi... wasn't fresh. If you're going to serve raw fish you should at least make sure it's fresh and not old in flavor. The shrimp tamale...hmmm...hard small brick of corn meal with a small little shrimp in it. Also inedible. The Wagyu was supposed to have a vinaigrette but it didn't...just raw slices of beef with little Chile slices and a cube of gelatin beef broth in the middle. Pretty tasteless. The short rib was my mostly just fat. If you like all fat I'm sure it was good. We only took one bite of each dish and couldn't eat any more. The waiter took each dish away and never even asked why we weren't eating it. We stopped the meal at that point and didn't have them bring anymore of the pre fixe meal and asked for the check. Not worth the $170. Not sure if this was just a bad night, but none of the dishes were worth eating. We ended up eating dinner around the corner afterward because we were hungry.

This is a pop up restaurant so it’s important to know that as the atmosphere is not as you’d expect for a 5 or 7 course meal. The food is excellent.

Inventive, delicious, well prepared and served. A nice high end alternative to the usual fair. My only complaints were that the food was under seasoned (I'm only talking about salt, here) and they only offered wine and sake with a meal that deserved a cocktail and a beer list.

I did enjoy all of the seven course meal. The service was nice. I was expecting to see more ART in the design of the food. The flavors of the food was great. I would go back for another meal. I would like to know how would a customer know if the menu has changed. Do they change the menu weekly? I would be excited to try other dishes. The dishes that I experienced on August 2, 2019 were all very tasty. Leaves you wanting more.

Took a chance on trying Abstract Table while hosting out-of-town friends and had a fantastic meal that felt uniquely Oakland -- tasty, mutli-cultural and unpretentious. Don't let the humble digs fool you. We had the seven course menu which felt more like a gourmet journey than a standard meal. The experience was well-paced and each dish had a creative twist on traditional Japanese cuisine, artfully fused with other international flavors and fresh, seasonal ingredients. Excited to return!

Very innovative dishes. Love all the dishes presented. The first course was Hamachi, heirloom tomato, pineapple and lime popsicle. Each dish presented had a unique taste. The restaurant offered fixed price menu. Either a five course or seven. The cost were very reasonable . I would recommend this restaurant.

Food was excellent. You see with your eyes first & presentation was exceptional. The courses were interesting (In a good way) & really good. We appreciated the detailed description by server & conversation with one of the chefs. Looking forward to more dining. Will share experience with others. Good value. Wine selection needs a boost but food was awesome.

Wow. The presentation was top notch, but the food was even better than the presentation. I've eaten at many places where the presentation was outstanding (Hello Atelier Crenn) but the food did not live up to the promise of the presentation. I am glad to say that my tongue was even happier than my eyes. And, there was plenty of food. And the price for this kind of food was super reasonable.

I'm a tough grader, but even the worst dish would get an A- from me. All other dishes were solid A's or A+'s. I was really really happy with this dinner. I can't wait to go back to see what they are going to produce next season (the menu changes seasonally).

This is easily one of the best food experiences you can have in Northern California. GO NOW!
