we tried 6 appetizers. Most were ample and delicious. The salad was the only disappointing dish, it was served over burrata, was an odd combination and somewhat flavorless. The service was ok, but toward the (we were only one of 2 tables), we had to ask for the bill.
This is the Spanish Tapas restaurant that replaced Zarzuela. It is pretty good!
We had the Charred Octopus, the Tortilla España and the Croquetas to start. The octopus was very tasty with kumquats.
Then we had the seafood paella which was fine.
The wine list is so good!
Incredible food, excellent service, every dish was delicious. Great wine bar across the street if you want another glass after dinner.
Went to Abrazo for NYE with three close friends, and the meal was amazing. Our server was very helpful, responsive, and friendly. Food and drinks were wonderful; New Year’s Eve featured a course menu that tasted great with perfect portions. Couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience!
Wonderful food and service!
The pork chop was excellent. The menu was short. Sangria was light but could be little sweeter. Appetizer were okay. Service was good.
I appreciated how the owner/chef accommodated my party of 3 when my reservation was only for 2. The back room where he sat us was cozy and intimate. The dishes are delicious and elegant; however the portions are small. Don’t bother splitting an entree if you’re really hungry. So we shared a couple of entrees in addition to tapas and left pleasantly full, but not stuffed. The dessert highlight were the churros filled w/ ricotta. OMG!!!!! You just have to got there to try them. Well worth the trek across the Bay Bridge.
Server was good, presentation was good. Food for value was poor, quantity was lacking for how expensive. Short rib way too salty (usually I love salt). Beet salad didn’t have very much beet. Paella was 42 dollars but it should’ve been for two quantity but it was a single person. One scallop and a good variety of seafood but just one of each thing not much rice.
Everything we had was incredible. The croquetas were delicious. Nice filling of chicken and spices. The spanish tortilla was cooked perfectly with some tasty sauces. I didn't eat the Octopus but others were raving about it. The chicken was cooked perfectly, nice portion, delicious sauce. I wanted to go back the next night! Cute restaurant in a nice location. You can take the cable car there. No liquor license but they have a wonderful wine selection.
Terrific. We love this restaurant! The owner/chef is so nice and his waitresses are soo nice and friendly and the food is delicious
Excellent food -- I've had the pleasure of eating here a few times & have enjoyed every meal - & my dining companions each time have as well. Friendly, helpful & attentive service - nice that the owner/chef comes into the dining room. The location is very convenient for me, however, in my opinion, definitely worth a longer trek to this cozy Russian Hill restaurant.
Absolutely fantastic on all levels! Will be back again, and again!
Grilled octopus and grilled prawns were cooked to perfection with really interesting spices and garnishes. Lovely happy hour prosecco and chardonnay. charteucerie board and veggie tempura.
Lovely service. Quiet ambiance perfect for girls having a chatty catch-up.
The reviews will never do it justice. Every dish was amazing. Highly recommend the grilled octopus, the sole, the lamb the paella... and the ham/cheese platter. Actually everything was great.
We really enjoyed our meal here. The menu is a bit small, but everything we ate off it was very good. Service was great, and it was a nice atmosphere. The duck is the star of the show here, so it did surprise us that they said they only had three left when we ordered around 7pm. However, we understood why when the meat fell off the bone and melted in our mouths. It deserves the hype!
I enjoyed Abrazo overall, but I think cost of each dish didn't reflect the portion. Dining in San Francisco can get expensive and I expect these prices, but I also expect a decent amount of food. Unfortunately, would not recommend as there's other great tapas restaurant in SF for its value.
It was the Sunday before Veteran's Day so maybe everyone was away for the long weekend, but it was truly surprising how empty the restaurant given how good the food was. I'm definitely coming back!
Hello Husoval, Thank you so much for visiting us here at Abrazo! We continue to hold ourselves to the highest of standards even though we are not getting a lot of foot traffic through the doors. So thank you again for spreading the word about your excellent experience here. We truly appreciate it and hope that others will read your review and join us for a wonderful experience as well. Executive Chef/Owner Michael Pawlik
Abrazo really impressed us. We had been looking for a new neighborhood spot and Abrazo exceeded expectations. The service was off the charts. The food was great. We loved it.
Everything was wonderful. Cozy ambience. Food was so delicious. Lovely staff. We look forward to returning.
Excellent Spanish food in a casual neighborhood restaurant with super service, excellent seating and outstanding value.
When we arrived and were seated straight away.
The restaurant went out of there way to make sure we had a great time, even going to the trouble of cooking a vegetarian dish from scratch, not on that nights menu. It was super.
I had the Lamb dish and loved every bite of it.
The 2 deserts we had were the perfect end to a great meal.
We will return.
A delicious, flavorful dining experience from start to finish. The chicken main dish was exceptional. We will be back to Abrazo for more!
Just ok. The restaurant was less than 1/2 empty. 2 of the two tops had diners. We were offered three horribly placed 2-top tables. One by kitchen, one in corner by bar and one by cc station. We should have asked them to convert a 4 top by the window to a 2 top. Had 4 apps - octopus was best one. Meatballs were pretty good. We did not care for croquettes. Fried veggies were ok.
Hello Donna, I am sorry that you didn't care for your choice of tables as we are a small neighborhood restaurant. The other tables were set for one 8 top one 7 top one 6 top and multiple four tops. Had you mentioned something when you were here I could've offered you something in the back semi private dining room, that would've been the only other option after the 3 choices on a Saturday night. If you decide to give us another chance please mention in the OT notes and I will rectify this. Thanks
Excellent food and beverages. Brought some friends from out of town and others from the city that hadn’t been before. Everyone loved everything they had with the Paella and octopus being especially nice. Always enjoy a trip here where the food is the star and everyone knows it! Thanks Chef Pawlik!
Amazing food, great location
We have only been coming here for a few weeks, having just moved into the neighborhood, but Abrazo has become one of our favorites. We find the cooking to be creative and well-executed, the service friendly and efficient, and the setting comfortably casual. The Arctic Char and Lamb Shank are not to be missed. And for starters, you can't go wrong with the meatballs, tortilla Espanol or the ham-and-cheese board (enough to split).
We chose Abrazo as it is close to the event we attended Saturday night and the menu on their webpage has a vegetarian option and one of our party is vegetarian. I was a bit concerned as reservation times were widely available even the morning of dining, but the existing positive reviews swayed me. The menu we were handed had no vegetarian main. We asked the waiter about options and he snidely offered the meat pasta dish with most of the ingredients removed so it essentially would have been buttered noodles. It is weird in San Francisco to have no vegetarian options and to have a waiter be rude and dismissive when asked about options. We didn't request anything complicated--just no meat. We debated leaving, but didn't want to have to try and find another restaurant in the middle of peak dining hour on a Sat night. We ended up disappointed in all but one of the dishes. The roasted carrots were outstanding and the one highlight of the evening. The worst of the other dishes included the smoked duck salad which was extremely sweet and the tartare which was covered in a thick tomato sauce which obliterated the flavor of the very chewy beef. The dish tasted like raw sausage and was very unpleasant. The New York strip was also very chewy. The chocolate mousse was like dense hard fudge that had to be scraped out of the bottom of a stemless wine glass. Service was poor and items forgotten. We were charged for everything, even those things that were never served. At the end, we just wanted to escape, but did ask them to remove the charge for wine they forgot as it was quite obvious it was never served.
Food good & convenient location for where we staying. Very quiet as few folks in when we were eating-maybe Tuesday after labour day the reason not because of restaurant!
Mike continues to do an amazing job! Food is fantastic and the changes to the interior are really nice and inviting.
I had the best paella here! The food was spectacular and the atmosphere was great for dinner. Perfect for a date night!
Unfortunately, it does not get even close to Zarzuela, the restaurant which was previously there and which we used to visit for la last 20 years. The food is OK and very overpriced. None of the appetizers (meatballs, Spanish tortilla, grilled octopus & prawns) stood out as flavor or presentation. As main dish goes, the lamb chops were overcooked. Chicken was a bit too salty. The only main dish that was good was the steak. We ordered sangria as drinks which seemed water down and very sour. They were nice to bring a scoop of ice-cream on the house as we were there for a birthday celebration.
I understand that it can be tough losing a restaurant that you visited for 20 years. We do top off our sangria with Cava, I wish you would have mentioned that you didn't care for it when you were here. I would've replaced it with something more to your liking. We don't have lamb chops on the menu, the lamb you had was a shank that is braised for 5 hours. I will look into the salt on the chicken. Thank you very much for the review, all feed back is appreciated and helps us gets better.
Absolutely fantastic on every level, fresh, imaginative, welcoming atmosphere excellent service. Looking forward to returning!
We stopped here for dinner before a show in North Beach because we prefer the 'Mediterranean' fare here than the typical pasta/pizza at the Italian restaurants. We had the beet salad and Arctic char, which were both terrific, and the paella which was good but the rice was dry. That was the only thing holding us back from giving 5 stars. The service was fantastic and we will be sure to return again.
Great tasting food 5 diners and everyone loved their food. Appetizers were also excellent. We will go back to this place.
Fantastic food and ambiance!
One of my favorite places in all of SF, I have yet to dine there and not have a great experience.
The food is seriously delicious! We had the lamb shank and the pork tenderloin. Everyone was happy with their meal. This is a neighborhood gem for us, but it would be worth the trip across town.
Thank you so much for your kind words, we work very hard as a team on a daily basis to ensure quality and consistency. We look forward to having you in again in the future.
One of the best paellas I’ve ever had and I’ve traveled in Spain and had it at parties with hired chefs. Only thing I’d recommend is different music - was more like Muzak and this is an easy fix!
My second dinner at Abrazo was excellent. The three of us mainly shared appetizer dishes and one large plate. The grilled octopus was exceptional. We ordered the churros for desert and it was delightfully fluffy; nothing like the churros at other restaurants. We will definitely be back!
Amazing restaurant, beautiful food and a rockstar crew!
