Once again enjoyed the excellent cuisine at Aboyer. Dining with good friends, we enjoyed the Gougeres (cheese puffs) and Agnolotti (escargot) with the bread service. Wow. For entree’s we had the Loup de Mer, the Lamb chop, the Berkshire pork, and the cassoulet (duck, lamb, beans). The cassoulet was a bit dry, but very tasty, and the other entrees were excellent. Both couples shared the delicious Dark Chocolate Gateau for dessert. A Noth Shore gem. Try it! We’ll be back for sure.

Michael has always has a propensity to oversalt; my duck confit (day's special) was no exception. As I often bring out-of-town visitors to both Aboyer and Silencieux (and, previously, Restaurant Michael), I was disappointed--especially as one of my three guests' hangar steak was not done to her expressed level.

The rabbit and sage sausage starter was outstanding! And I would say the same for my coq au vin. . My favorite chicken is still Daniel Humm's in New York, but this is absolutely my second favorite! My husband had the bass and he raved about that also. We shared the flan dessert and it was lovely. I can't wait to go back - there were so many things on the menu I want to try. One critic said it was very loud but we didn't find it loud at all -- very easy to have a conversation. The tables were a little too close together we thought -- the ones along the back wall, that is. This is my new go to restaurant in the burbs. I have to say it wasn't cheap - with a bottle of wine and a couple cocktails, it was over $200. But I would say it was worth it, absolutely! Now I also want to try Silencieux.

This being the old site of Michael Restaurant the location is good (across and south the Metro Station Indian Hill). The interiors quite stark cold grey (floor and wall finishes) . The coat closet (with sliding doors) with graphic chevron grey on grey can be seen in the main dining.( not desirable as it was also storage for chairs etc.) This could have been located in the ancillary corridor providing a nice blank wall for ART to warm up the spatial environment. The waiter should not be standing next to the host podium ( almost adjacent to the next table luckily was empty) to wait on service. The waiter can stand at the end of the dining by the bar for visual management as the space is not expansive but quite intimate. American French Bistro Food: Very Good Service: A birthday event that I requested on line did not occur and I had to remind the waiter of my request. There was no offer for coffee/tea service either. The waiter did not know a certain food question.( gooseberry ) topped on the creme brûlée. The host then came to tell us about the gooseberry . Recommendation: Aboyer yet has to arrive at a seamless service style that is equitable to their reservation of charging credit cards and penalties. Question: My decision to make the reservation is based on where the chef/owners restaurant past profiles Michael, GT Fish...........all of which I have dined before. Should I return ? Maybe in due time. Thank you.

Service was bad tonight. It was our first and last time. We waited over 45 minutes for bread to arrive and then only after we said something. The sausage starter was over salted-not edible. The steak that was ordered medium was raw. Everyone around us had similar poor experiences. Nothing was comped but offered $25 to return. No thank you.

Really fine experience. Food was delicious as was the wine. The only downer was our table was a bit too close to our adjacent diners. We seemed to be part their conversation, and we literally had to move our table to let them leave. Not a big deal (we joked about it with the neighboring party) but it would be a little nicer to have a little more space between the tables. We’ll be back!

Yes, I would recommend this restaurant. However, you need to know that the tables are very closely spaced and you can hear neighboring conversations. We thought that the food quality was very good and the wine list was nicely selected. They have made a good attempt to mute the noise, but that is pretty hard to do in a small space with the tables so close together We would go back because we love Chef Michael's cooking.

The food was ok, not great. The chocolate cake on the restaurant week menu turned out to be nothing more than a chocolate brownie. The Vouvray was not quite chilled enough. The food was serviceable rather than amazing. Certainly nothing like that served at Michel’s, the previous incarnation of this place, where we had eaten many times over many years. And truly ridiculous was the charge of $2.96 on the menu to provide staff with healthcare. Very glad their staff gets healthcare - everyone should. But a line item charge for it? What’s next? An itemized list of ingredients with corresponding charges? Bread, butter, onions, salmon, pepper......Come on!

The prefix restaurant week menu was absolutely delicious! We loved the bread with a medley of salts as a starter. The different breads were all very tasty. The charcuterie board was huge for one person - the chicken liver spread was to die for and the mushroom cheese was amazing; very surprised at how much we liked those twos. The salmon with bok Choy dinner was outstanding. The cou qu vin was good and was a large portion but was over shadowed by the salmon. The desserts weren’t our favorites but I think we were so full it didn’t bother us that they weren’t amazing. The service was a bit slow but the restaurant was packed, so a bit understandable.

This is a class act from start to finish. The service from when we were greeted at the front door throughout the evening and when we were finished and leaving was truly impeccable. From the people who ran the food to the owners & chef, we felt like not only welcomed guests, but family as well. But the bottom line is the food is utterly fantastic. There was nothing anyone of us dined on that wasn't incredibility delirious or perfectly presented. What a way to ring in the New Year!! But we won't wait until next year to come back, I'm betting we don't even wait until next week. Bravo Michael, Sergio and everyone at Aboyer. See you soon!

The service is always impeccable. I had the venison and stuffed quail. The venison was a perfect medium rare and the venison was sweet and moist. The appetizer of shrimp and gratin scallops in a saffron sauce was tender with a light sauce that did not overpower the seafood.

The food here is always fabulous, but you have to wait for it. It's noisy, too, and sometimes you're a little too close to your neighbors. My Christmas Eve order was scallop and crab, and dinner entree was Dover sole and lobster with all the fancy French names and sauces. Just so wonderfully good. We also went there for Thanksgiving. Then, I liked that they gave you appetizer AND salad, and two entree specials. I'd say this dinner was a little skimpy for the price. But very, very good.

For years, we enjoyed many special meals at the previous restaurant concept Michael. We made reservations for Christmas Eve about a month ago and paid a $30 deposit. Having arrived a few minutes before our scheduled 6 PM reservation, we were assigned a miserable table consisting of 2 small tables crammed together right at the front door entrance and host’s podium; we asked to be seated at another 4 top table further from the door that was available, but for no reason our request was denied. 3 people arrived about 15 minutes after us and yet were given that table? At this point, we probably should have left, but had an out-of-town guest with us, had paid a deposit and feared we could not get into another restaurant on Christmas Eve. We understood when making reservations that the only menu offered was a simple 3 course prix-fixe, yet it took over 2 hours to serve us- and we didn’t even have any drink orders! We might have enjoyed lingering over our meal, but for most of the two hours we were surrounded with: people bumping into us, brushing us when removing or putting on their coats, knocking us with their purses, staring at our meals while we ate, etc. It is very unfortunate that this restaurant has a great product - it’s food is delicious - but failed to deliver a pleasant and comfortable dining experience. It fell far short of what I expect for a $300 meal for three people (with no alcoholic drinks).

What to say about Aboyer! For years I enjoyed the previous restaurant at this location-Michael. It was elegant and classy, bustling but conversation friendly, with the best French gourmet food on Chicago's North Shore. Definitely, my go to special occasion restaurant. After the holiday season last year, the restaurant was closed to be remodeled with a new concept. It reopened in the Fall as 2 restaurants-Aboyer and Silencieux-the previous ultra gormet restaurant called Georges Trois remained. This serves a 12 course meal reputedly cooked directly by the chef-Michael L. It is pris fixe and costs about $150 per person. I haven't eaten there. Aboyer is a bistro style place. No more white tablecloths and now a bar in the room. It is noisy and crowded without any of the ambience of the the previous space. The food is as good as it ever was and the prices are about the same. The service, however, has deteriorated and waits can be long. On Christmas Eve the wait for food was close to unacceptable. Admittedly, it was very busy. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. We did not have a similar problem with service on Thanksgiving, but they were serving a far less complex menu. Silencieux is in a room that can be separated from Aboyer by a sliding door. It has a different menu and is reputedly quieter. I have not eaten there. On Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve the restaurants were combined and they were serving a pris fixe menu similar to Aboyer. All in all, I feel that the new concept has destroyed a uniquely elegant restaurant, and replaced it with something mundane, though the food is as good as ever. I have mixed feelings about going there. I dislike the ambience and it is expensive, but the food is so good that I probably won't stay away.

The decor and ambiance was very nice! Unfortunately the remainder of the evening wasn’t very good. There were only 3 tables dining that evening. They sat us near the door going into the other restaurant and by the front door. If the place was packed I could have understood but not this time. The server came only after 10 min of waiting and after we asked the host to order cocktails. I had the chicken over the white beans and it was very salty to the point I could not finish it. The pears dessert was amazing but the ice cream soufflé was frozen that we needed 2 utensils each to dig into it. I wish them well because we need more fine dining in the North Shore.
