Quality Ethiopian Cuisine that one would suspect you would find in downtown DC. Very intimate and down to earth atmosphere. Great for a business lunch, casual dinner, or fun date. Very reasonable prices, excellent food, and very worth the price. Highly recommend.

A colleague whose daughter spent many years in East Africa urged us to try Abol out because, in her opinion, it was both the best and the most authentic Ethiopian food in Silver Spring. Given that there have got to be at least a dozen Ethiopian restaurants in town, that is quite an endorsement. We were NOT disappointed!

Loved the restaurant and food. The 3rd person in our party had his first experience with Ethopian food. He wasn't thrilled with the injera so he used a serving spoon to finish off all the food...and the portions are large! We all loved what we ordered! Service was ok until we were ready to leave and wanted the check. There was only 1 server for the entire restaurant. She did the best she could.

An excellent Ethiopian restaurant with great food and service. Nice combinations are available that makes it easy to order if your less familiar with the cuisine. The food takes a bit of time to prepare so go with some friends and relax and enjoy the meal in a relatively casual setting.

Abol is one of my favorite Ethiopian restaurants. The food is varied with multiple meat (beef and lamb), fish and vegetable dishes. Service is welcoming and efficient. It is situated in the heart of Silver Spring, Maryland across from the AFI movie theatre. I was introduced to Ethiopian food while a Peace Corps Volunteer. I love the way Abol always has so many vegetable side dishes.

Cute place and food tastes great. Too bad they depart from Ethiopian tradition and serve food in Western style bowls. Also injera was cold. Also, took more than half hour after giving our order to get served and they forgot to give us the side dishes that come wth the order. The place was not crowded So no excuse for poor service.

I went to this restaurant with some friends last weekend and overall, it was tasty and enjoyable. The food: The food options were fairly varied and we ordered two chicken dishes (one stew and one tibs, I believe), one beef dish, and one pork dish. There were two clear favorites - the pork dish and the chicken tibs. The chicken stew was fine, but nobody loved it. I can't speak for the beef dish, as I didn't taste it myself, but my dining partners said it was just "okay." All of the side dishes we tried - split pea sauce, collard greens, and beets and potatoes - were delectable, and we'd order all of them again in the future. The service: Much slower than we expected. We had reservations (which weren't really necessary on a Sunday night - it was just us and one other couple in the restaurant) at 6:30 pm and didn't leave until close to 9:00 pm. Our water glasses weren't refilled often enough and it took quite a long time to get our check. On the plus side, the chef came out to personally ask how the food was, which was neat to get personalized attention like that. Ambiance: There isn't much ambiance to speak of here. There is some wall decor but nothing extremely memorable. If you're looking for ambiance, you may have better luck going into DC or trying one of the other places in DC. But for a casual meal with friends, it's perfectly sufficient! Overall, we will likely go back to this restaurant for meals when we are able to allot several hours to the dining experience.
