Abla Amad was born in Lebanon and arrived in Australia in 1954 at the age of nineteen. In 1979 at the urging of friends and family she opened Abla’s, a restaurant that has become a Melbourne institution.

Ever since it opened, diners have returned time and again to experience her special brand of traditional, homemade Lebanese food.

For Abla it is a cuisine that can only be made from the heart – that’s why she is widely regarded as ‘the queen of Lebanese cooking’.

BYO is now available on Thursdays - We fill up quickly so be sure to book!

A first visit to this iconic Melbourne establishment in quite few years; we were accompanied by visiting friends from the US. Excellent, authentic and "home style" as before (the restaurant hasn't lost that very important element). One feels comfortable and welcomed when greeted by their hospitable staff. This should be no surprise as the front- and back-of-house are mostly part of the Family. I would like to see a few more BYO (wine only) days even if the corkage was higher; I have some excellent wine to pair with their specific cuisine/tastes. Anyone dining in Carlton/Lygon Street environs should put this establishment in their "to do" list. Sukran Jazilan/Merci Beaucoup, Abla and family

Flavoursome reliable beautiful food. Consistently good. Excellent service - friendly knowledgeable staff. Always a go-to when you want to be assured of a delicious meal in a comfortable environment.

Friendly atmosphere, food was poor, very dry kibbeh, service was disinterested. We ate 1/2 of one kibble and only 2 out of the 5 silver beet rolls. Not asked if we were enjoying. Chicken livers were nice, dips ok.
