Abla Amad was born in Lebanon and arrived in Australia in 1954 at the age of nineteen. In 1979 at the urging of friends and family she opened Abla’s, a restaurant that has become a Melbourne institution.

Ever since it opened, diners have returned time and again to experience her special brand of traditional, homemade Lebanese food.

For Abla it is a cuisine that can only be made from the heart – that’s why she is widely regarded as ‘the queen of Lebanese cooking’.

BYO is now available on Thursdays - We fill up quickly so be sure to book!

Unfortunately, the experience didn’t justify the high price point, especially given that I’ve had comparable—or even better—Lebanese cuisine at more affordable venues. The samkeh harra, in particular, was disappointing and lacked the flavor and texture we were hoping for—we didn’t even finish it. On top of that, we were seated near the door, so every time someone entered or exited, a cold draft swept in, which made the experience noticeably less comfortable.

We had not been at Ablas for at least 15 years. It was great then, it is great now! The food is lovely, the service was great and super attentive (thanks for squeezing the last kibbeh to our table!) The labneh and the chicken and rice were also to die for. Why inhibe world did we wait 15 years to come back? Hope this time around it won’t be more than 6 months.

This place always delivers. Every bite was incredible, and the service and ambiance were just perfect. I’ll absolutely be returning.

Services not the great one.food was okay,but not traditional.set menu the end.tea and coffee only can choose one,but we have 4people,one person one coffee,but they said needs same.is unfair for him

A first visit to this iconic Melbourne establishment in quite few years; we were accompanied by visiting friends from the US. Excellent, authentic and "home style" as before (the restaurant hasn't lost that very important element). One feels comfortable and welcomed when greeted by their hospitable staff. This should be no surprise as the front- and back-of-house are mostly part of the Family. I would like to see a few more BYO (wine only) days even if the corkage was higher; I have some excellent wine to pair with their specific cuisine/tastes. Anyone dining in Carlton/Lygon Street environs should put this establishment in their "to do" list. Sukran Jazilan/Merci Beaucoup, Abla and family
