Underrated restaurant that puts out great food and brews their own beers!
Service seemed understaffed. Food was okay. The bone marrow with chimichurri and bread was actually chimichurri on bread with chimichurri with some bone marrow. Too much. The steak frites was plated oddly, as the steak was placed on the fries, which made the fries a bit soggy. The cheese breads were very good. Drinks were the highlight of the evening. We had a pear-ez and a revenge of the samurai. Very tasty. Otherwise, average dining experience, nothing much worth noting.
The pho poached chicken salad was awful. too spicy to enjoy (I can usually handle moderate spice) even if the flavor was good, had bitter aftertaste, but I really hate sending food back, so I just ate what I could. grilled asparagus was very disappointing, prosciutto was just a few crumbs. The staff was great; very helpful, polite and accommodating while they were available. however, there was only one waitress and server. once the restaurant started getting busy (7pm) we had a hard time getting their attention. We had to get up and look for someone to bring the check a couple of times and still waited quite a bit. we had to go feed the meter to continue waiting for our check.
recommend this restaurant only for cocktails and apps.
This is a great location to grab a bite to eat with friends. The food and cocktails are delicious and you get an ocean view which is amazing!
The Brussel sprouts are my favorite - I always regret not ordering two. The chicken salad is also amazing. This place is delicious. It does get loud so beware. Brunch is beyond amazing also. Portions are perfect not too huge not too small def need to get an app.
Great food and service. The menu is interesting and creative.
Delicious and inventive cuisine in Hermosa Beach. With an added dose of counter culture coolness— as a pivotal space for the formation of West Coast punk band Black Flag. — add in some great cocktails, microbrews and you get a great memorable meal.
Love this local place for brunch!!! Endless mimosas could be a better brand for the price, but food and service is great
Service was horrible. No one approached our table for at least 30 minutes, and we had to ask someone to send us a server. Servers ignore you when you try to catch their attention. It takes more than 10 minutes for drinks to be served. Food also took a long time to be served, after what was already a long wait for order to be taken.
Food was great! We had a small business party during prime dinning hours. Conversation was difficult due to the noise level.
Food was good. Service was the worst I think Ive ever experienced. Our server AJ was obviously more interested the the tables that were ordering drinks (we told him my wife is pregnant). It was so bad that the bussers had to take our dessert order.
The brunch was great! 2 hours of bottomless mimosas and very yummy food. Pretty loud and energetic atmosphere with lots of larger birthday parties going on.
Brunch on a Sunday and it was delicious!!
Worse service I have ever had. I will definitely not be going back there again.
Abigaile was great! The menu is diverse and even had a vegetarian section for my wife! Great beer! The environment was great, as well as the service. I will definitely be going back, and will be going for Brunch next time!
Went for brunch with some friends the food was great the service was good but the restaurant is Extremely loud.
We were six people and were seated at a table in the corner of the restaurant. The noise level there was way higher than at the bar where we'd been waiting for the rest of the party. It was difficult to hear each other across the table.
Our waiter, AJ, managed to bring 5 out of 6 plates of food. I had to chase him up for the final one which was obviously waiting for collection as it came immediately. He managed to ignore us for so long that I went to request we get new drinks. Our glasses had stood empty for quite a long time. When the beers came, we received 2 of the same instead of one each of 2 different beers.
The R+D risotto dish was poor. Carbonaro-style risotto?! Why mess with a good risotto, it takes a lot of beating when done right. Roasted salmon was good but nothing special. Brussels were good. Overall, just mediocre. No-one got excited about any of the food. Which was disappointing because we've had a decent meal there previously.
The tables were very dark with small candle-type lighting. Midway through our meal the main lights came on brightly, almost like that party trick to encourage your guests to go home. Really odd.
We didn't stay as long as we could have. The noise level was anti-social and no-one was enthusiastic enough to consider dessert.
Great food awesome service! Thank you, AJ!
Our food was delicious and the service was great
Excellent experience. Food was delicious and the service paramount. The snicker bar for dessert - all time.
Abigaile is always fantastic. The food is exceptional, the beer list is great, and I've never had bad service. They embraced the punk rock historical elements in the design and it definitely adds to the ambiance/experience.
I would say that it does feel a little more intimidating than a former punk, beer-focused restaurant probably should though. The staff feels very formal and, while it makes sense why they would be at a nice restaurant, it makes me feel like I need to be formal from the moment I walk in. Most of the seating for parties of two are stacked right next to another party of two in their strip of long booths at the center of the restaurant. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I can never really feel comfortable when I have two sets of strangers sitting on either side of me less than 3 feet away. I find myself almost whispering in these scenarios because I'm being self-conscious about what I'm talking about...I'm eavesdropping on my neighbors' conversations (which probably explains why I assume they're also eavesdropping)...I feel like my neighbors are judging our ordering choices...etc. All that kind of stuff makes me never really feel totally comfortable at Abigaile. It's obviously not enough to stop me from wanting to come back here, but I think I only consider it for special occasions because I associate it with being too fancy for a normal, comfy meal.
All that rambling aside, the food is still really damn good and I will go back and whisper my way through another meal on our anniversary or something.
It's been on my list to try for quite some time, and I'll say I've honestly passed over it a few times because the photos on Open Table don't do it justice. My dad and I came for an early dinner after work on a Friday and were seated in the main dining room. The ambiance was lovely and the young lady who brought us our drinks was knowledgeable and friendly. The menu was unique, and thoughtful. It was filled with items that complemented one another. We started with a charcuterie & cheese board that was delicious- the goat cheese was a favorite. We also tried the fried olives which were wonderful. My dad had the bi-bim-bop which was deliciously flavored and I had the salmon with kale. The skin was so crispy and seasoned, and the horseradish butter was the perfect addition. The only negative about the meal was that as it got closer to 7:30 the place filled up and it got pretty loud pretty quick (not a problem at all, and the energy was good.) The problem was that it did not appear that any other servers had come on shift and service got really slow, a bit sloppy and there was no more personal connection to staff. Lots of people were looking around to get drinks, food orders placed, etc. We will definitely be back because the food was excellent!
Lovely restaurant within downtown Hermosa Beach. Excellent food, great service and a good place to spend time with friends over a good meal.
Well worth the price for value.
My first impression was not positive. Our greeter was not only unfriendly but impolite. He seemed irritated that we showed up. Since i didn’t see any other customers that looked like me, I started to think that perhaps this restaurant was only for a certain type of community.
However, the waitress and busboy both removed any doubts we had about belonging. They were both very nice and extremely accommodating. And, to top it off, the food was absolutely delicious! I/we will definitely be back.
I would suggest getting some customer service training for the greeter, though...
Came here bc of DineLA but then when we got there, the DineLA menu that was advertised online was diff from the DineLA menu at the restaurant which is a bummer :-( food was still good
great brussel sprouts. everyone ejoyed their meals. good value. can accomodate large groups
Excellent DineLA menu!!
Left after 1 hour - got 1 plate in that time, so paid for wine and left.
I loved everything about this restaurant. The Pao de queijo was a delicious started. Herbed butter and honey. Yum!!! My friend and I also shared the short rib, the wild mushroom polenta (our favorite) and the steak poutine. Everything was a little decadent but tasted awesome. I want to go back and try everything else on the menu!
Overall an average restaurant. The vibe is cool but the food is fair and some dishes aren't worth the price. Service was poor on the night we went and the restaurant wasn't very busy. The waitress was either tired or didn't care. If you're there for drinks, I think it's a great place. Kinda weird but the restaurant was freezing cold. They had the front door wide open on a cold night so it seemed that the outdoor seating might have been warmer because of the heal lamps.
Good friends bday on NYE. The server was really nice despite it taking over 25 Min to get our food. The dishes were unique and quite delicious. Over all good experience. Would definitely go back again.
We came to LA for vacation and while looking for a date night spot stumbled across Abigaile, a highly rated brewery and restaurant a stone's throw from the beaches of Hermosa. This place has the perfect atmosphere for a date. We were seated at a candlelit table toward the back, providing us with our own intimate space. The menu is designed for sharing, which can be a little confusing to navigate with just 2 people. My date had one of their own brewed beers and I had the Don Draper cocktail. Both were delicious and I would definitely recommend this for a late night drink. Our food was very good. I enjoyed trying new foods like their famous pao de queijo, as well as some classics (such as my boyfriend's dry aged burger). We enjoyed the food and our time together, though it is very loud (mostly because of the "background" music).
A near MB Post experience without all the fuss.😀😄😊🙄😁
Waitress acted like she had a chip on her shoulder. Felt like she thought she was doing us a favor. Food was good but we ordered dessert and it never came. Took forever to pay bill.
Shannon is amazing
Too noisy and hard to find - never again. I was so disappointed with the food and it was over priced.
I didn’t like how a guy in a suit, presumably the manager started to rush us to finish eating. He came by and asked if we where done with our plates and we had received the plates maybe 10 minutes before and we’re taking our time enjoying conversation with plenty of food still on our plates. Our waitress then followed 2-5 minutes after askIng if we were finished and where we still nippling. It just felt like the couldn’t wait to get us out and flip the table and that didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth for this place. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you actually looking for a good time to enjoy a meal with friends/family. It’s good if your in a rush to get out.
Ambiance was romantic yet fun with two tv's playing sports and a nice bar area. The diagonal setup of the restaurant was unique and worked well with the space. I suggest confirming the reservation and the location of your table because we were told when we got there that our reservation was for the outside makeshift area. We ordered the pao de queijo, brussel sprouts, lomo saltado, moroccan lamb kibbeh, and cilantro soy marinated skirt steak. The food was all a bit disappointing, but overall speed at which the food came out and the server's service was great.
Ordered seven plates; ended up hit and miss. Mushrooms and polenta; perfect. Spicy tuna, lack luster with a fish smell. Flank steak again, unremarkable and had an "old", not aged beef smell.
Probably would try it one more time; I think it has potential!
We had a reservation for 1 pm on a Sunday, but they didn’t have any good seating options. We were first seated upstairs, but no one ever came by with menus. We finally moved downstairs to the outdoor patio. Service continued to suck with our waitress being rude and short with us. One sentence that came out of her mouth was “I’m gonna let you guys work that out” when we were trying to establish whether there was more to the pathetic brunch offerings. We placed an order and then everything trickled out. By 2pm we had only gotten appetizers, so we cancelled the main dishes and asked for the check. The food was not good enough to outweigh the truly terrible service.
