Oh where to start. From the get go, our experience was far less than favorable. When the first couple of our 6 person party arrived 10-15 minutes before our 8pm reservation, the hostess greeted them by expressing relief our whole party hadn’t arrived yet because she was overwhelmed. At the bar, the bartender also told them he was glad they weren’t ordering food. The whole party was present by 8pm but a table was still not ready. While patiently waiting at the bar, my husband ordered a drink from the menu to which the bartender expressed confusion at what the drink was. We also observed only 2, maybe 3 staff members, acting in all capacities as hostess/server/bussers on a busy night. Finally, 30 minutes after our reservation, we were seated. After taking our seats, we were never offered water or checked in with. We finally left the restaurant between 8:45-9pm disappointed and hungry. We were excited to try the food but sadly poor planning & service by Abanico made that impossible.
The food was very good—pulpy, patatas bravas, and croquets de pollo were very good. Service and cocktails were fair.
The food was great, they were a little overwhelmed with the Valentine crowd, but tried REALLY hard to take care of everyone, I'll be back
The wait time to order and for food was very lengthy. Music was so loud it was difficult to have conversation. Restaurant is under new ownership so maybe wait times will improve, but food quality was not as good as it has been in the past.
Really poor. Multiple items on the menu were not available, including bourbon and wine, but this was only pointed out after we ordered them. All the tapas came out cold - including 5 of the hot plates. They tried to serve all 6 tapas plates simultaneously! Never seen that before and it was a total disaster. Truly a bad experience. We will never be back.
Nice place and employees. Food was really good. While the employees were friendly, service was a bit off. As a new place, I’d have expected a bit more enthusiasm and excitement.
I hope it shapes up as the menu is unique, food (we had four different meals) was excellent and I liked the friendliness.
The food was delicious but the dishes were not hot when they got to our table.
My guest and I truly enjoyed the food/tapas at Abanico. I could tell every sauce and dish was made from scratch and were authentic, just as if I were in Barcelona or Madrid. The paella had many layers of flavor from the rice and the shrimp. The Ox tail was falling off the bone. We asked for some bread to sop up the delicious sauce but they brought out bread dressed with butter/oil and really you just need plain bread for this. The sangria was tasty and I'd love to try some of their other drinks. The server and hostess were quick to impress that they wanted to make us happy from where we sat, to our food being what we anticipated. I felt dinner here was a better value than many of the other restaurants downtown. I go to the Peace Center/dinner every couple months as my splurge night and find the higher priced restaurants are over rated and the food and / or service is inconsistent, and we end up paying 30-50 percent more for a full meal. I will definitely be back- so many more tapas to try!
The food is amazing and the atmosphere is decent. I suspect they focus more on their wines, the cocktails were only alright. Went for the first time for my birthday and it did not disappoint!
The food is amazing and the environment is very friendly. However, when it gets really busy, it is quite loud and the service slows down considerably. Go early and have a great experience.
Our first experience...and not our last! Thank you Lacy and Abanico for making our first visit great. From the wonderful service, attention to detail and cuisine, we enjoyed all. The homemade Sangria (and Mocktail for my hubby) were delicious. Each of the tapas (paella, brussels sprouts, meatballs, jamon & manchego cheese) were wonderful. The Creme Catalan and Cheesecake were an excellent touch to our meal. Thank you and !hasta luego!
Recently visited Spain and wanted to have a reunion dinner with my travel partner. Abanico was the perfect place to meet up! The food was fabulous and reminisce about our trip! Will definitely return to try out the other dishes I wasn’t able to order during this visit. Also loved being able to salsa dance upstairs once the restaurant closed.
Very intimate. We loved it.
As always, Abanico delivered an amazing dinner. The wine recommendation was spot on, and the tapas we ate were amazing. Be sure to try the tuna!
Great dishes such attention to detail. Great place to enjoy before concert and such.
Service was slow. The food just mediocre. Just not impressed overall.
An awesome place for dining and dancing!!!
Always welcoming and fun!!!
Great choice of items to choose from, was greeted by owner and made to feel very welcome! Food was excellent and just a fun experience. Was noise even with fairly small groups. Will go back as soon as we can! Looking forward to being there when they have dancing!
Great food -- exceptional quality, really -- at a very good value. The seared tuna, artichokes, and fried eggplant were my choices. Loved them all!
Service was great, enjoyed the food, it's all good !
Great Staff and some of the best food in Greenville.
Slow to get drinks, though only one other table in the restaurant. Food arrived lukewarm. Goat cheese mushrooms were tasty but the potato/onion omelet and the chicken croquetas were very disappointing. We hoped that with a variety of small plates, we would find something to enjoy and satisfy us. Unfortunately, this evening there was nothing to draw us back.
Perhaps because we have been to Barcelona and San Sebastian many times we were disappointed by Abanico. The food was mostly good but the croquettas (one of my favorite tapas dishes) were cold and bland. The service was good and it wasn't noisy (as it was only half full on a Friday at 8 PM). Also, what was billed as Iberico Ham on the menu clearly was not. They shouldn't call it Iberico Ham if it isn't. If you want an authentic tapas experience drive 1:15 to Asheville and go to Curate (if you can get in. It is super popular.
I came to Abanico with friends who have dined there on several occasions. We ordered almost half of the available tapas on the menu and none of them disappointed. The small dishes (1-2 people) had flavor that was off-the-chart and was so delicious that the 3 of us had a second thought about the small sized servings, because we were so preoccupied with the new dishes that kept arriving to the table.
The service was excellent, excellent, excellent! Just an all around great experience. I will be back.
Thank You Joe, I so happy you enjoyed yourselves. It is our desire to bring the taste of Spain to Greenville for all to enjoy.
It was pretty average Portions very small and pricy for tapas
My husband and I ordered various tapas. the octopus, the mussels, Serrano ham & cheese,
Chick pea & Spanish sausage. Everything was delicious. My husband also had red wine and I had the sangria. We enjoyed our beverages. The waitress was very attentive.
The staff were friendly and responsive to our needs. We were trying to get to a show by a certain time and they expedited the process for us. The food was amazing and the drinks were delicious (the sangria!!!).
Although service started out pretty shaky, the tapas was great. We had the Gambas al Ajillo, Champinones rellenos, and Croquetas de Pollo. All were cooked perfectly and in solid portions. The sangria was awesome as well.
Great place to meet up with friends for a mid week get together. Food was amazing. Service was lacking. Will go back though because the food was just that great! Tuna was the best!
Great tapas, good wine menu, and the service was also good.
Was not authentic Spanish tapas. Had to wait on refills and flag the bartender to get a refill. We were the only ones in there.
Highly recommended with many positive reviews. I would say mostly accurate but this is not a five star experience. The dishes are good not great, nothing is outstanding. Drinks, good. Service is very good. Noise level is almost annoying if there’s a large group in the bar area, which there was during our meal. It’s good.
I felt they were understaffed. And then when the server abandoned us and about 5 other tables it was sad. We were early bird and did get our food. Others we maybe not as fortunate.
I feel for the management, but as said, service was very slow from the get go.
Food was good and prices were fair.
wonderful authentic Spanish dishes. We loved the Spanish guitar music at just the right level to enjoy it, yet you could have a conversation
Perfect food and perfect service as usual. Thank you Natalie.
Great atmosphere, service and food!!!
With this place being newly open, I think we need to give it some time to find it's way.
The service was OK but not great. We had to ask for one dish we ordered several times before they brought it out towards the end of our meal. Also we had to ask to pay the bill 2x. Due to some table mix up, our credit card was returned to us (without actual receipt to sign or bill) after enquiring about it after 10-15 minutes. We had to ask to bring them our bill again so we could actually pay for our meal, which we were finally able to do. The did offer us complimentary cheesecake for the inconveniences.
We tried a few of their red wines to see which one my wife and I liked best so we could order a bottle of it. Our waiter was extremely accommodating to this request and promptly provided us with several samples. We didn't really liked any of them so we decided to go with a bottle of Cava, which was good. A few points of remark with Cava though: a. When ordering a bottle of wine, it should really be opened at the table and not brought to table opened. b. Cava or any sparkling wine should be poured in appropriate glasses, not the red wine glasses already on the table and c. Sparkling or white wine ordered by the bottle should be served with a cooler. It might sound picky but I think these are items that show that a restaurant knows what they are doing or not.
We ordered the following dishes from their menu and I added our comments by each:
Jamon Iberico & Queso: overall tasty but Jamon looked like store bought slices to me, although I could be wrong
Paella: the favorite dish we had. Rice had great flavor
Gambas in Garlic: was a solid dish
Mussels: we found it to be OK. The herby sauce was tasty but mussels were kind of small and dry
Patatas Bravas: we had to wait until end of our meal to get them. We thought they were OK but not great
Stuffed Mushrooms: would recommend this one. Good taste
Brussels Sprouts: tasty
Cheesecake: we thought it was so-so at best
First time to be there. Great service. Took several recommendations from our waiter. Food was very good. Came out one plate at a time. So we could slowly work our way through the dishes we had. Will definitely return.
Great, authentic tapas. Personal and friendly service. Most definitely will make it a point to return!
Great food and drinks, the service was excellent. Incredibly affordable and the menu was diverse. A must try. Will be back soon!!
