Abacus Ratings and Reviews
First time here on a busy Saturday night. The service was much slower than usual and food came out less than warm. My dish was not cooked as I had asked, and they brought it back promptly.
Not their best effort, but will still come back on less busy nights because I like the food.
i used to love this restaurant...it has been one of my favorites for years. the menu has really changed alot and there is much more focus on sushi vs the innovative entrees that i have grown to love over the years (i think i have been going for over 15 years!). the menu style now is seems to be more shock and awe...you will be shocked at what Abacus wants to charge for some things. just my 2cents on one of my former faves
My husband and I chose this restaurant for our anniversary and chose the tasting menu without looking at the menu. We were very pleased with the service and most of all the food. I would recommend to anyone and we will visit again very soon. We chose the wine pairing as well which was a lot of wine so keep that in mind for driving purposes.
I really enjoyed it. The experience felt like a dream. The service was very nice and hospitable. The food was amazing and different from anything I have had before. The noise level was medium and the only negative thing I could even say is that it was a little bit too dark in the room.
I have been a fan of Abacus for many years. I thought the food and ambiance was outstanding. My husband and I celebrated many occasions there. I was disappointed on this visit. I didn't think the food was up to par. We were a party of six and only a few of us liked the meal. I hope they improve and reach the former to level of excellence.
What a wonderful evening at the Abacus. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and looking for something special. They certainly delivered a memorable meal and evening. First, the service was fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. Our server helped with the wine selections and I was so pleased with his suggestions. The food was in a class of its own. I would say it's what most high-end chefs hope to achieve, but rarely do. Of course we had to start with the lobster shooters. It's been about 10-years since I last tried them and they were as delicious as I remembered. I loved the Caesar salad with the salty bits of anchovies filets. I thought the addition of small ringlets of butternut squash was genius as it added a complementary sweet contrast to the salty fish. My hubby had the citrus salmon and said it was the best salmon he had ever tasted. I had the lamb loin and it was simply delicious. It was served on a bed of cauliflower purée that was deliciously velvety and smooth. Unfortunately, we were too full to try desserts, but the offerings on the menu sounded amazing. I am so often disappointed with the hype about some new restaurant or chef, but this place delivers. No wonder they have been in business almost 20-years and still pack the house. If you can't tell, I loved this place.
Wow! That’s all I can say! 2nd time this month and going back soon! What an amazing experience! All the food was incredible! Took a large group ! Everyone was blown away by service and food! Thanks Abacus! We will be back soon!
Don’t miss this place if you in Dallas and want a incredible dining experience!
Loved the ambiance and decor of Abacus. Upscale, cool vibe but not stuffy. Bacon flight came recommended but was not really worth it. Bacon was average and nothing special, but calling it a flight made it more enticing. Waiter was great, treated us to a lobster shooter and anniversary dessert on the house. The buffalo tenderloin was very good and the laughing bird shrimp dish had interesting flavors but was a bit chintsy since the shrimp was chopped into little pieces like popcorn shrimp. Breads were delicious!
There are so many fabulous restaurants in Dallas, I would not recommend Abacus. However, if you go, then I highly recommend the lobster shooters and the bacon wrap pork. Both we're excellent! Service was slow and the opah was way over cooked and over seasoned.
Abacus remains one of the better dining options in Dallas. The food is creatively prepared and is very good. Sushi is very good; choices between fish, steaks, buffalo and other choices. Wine list is outstanding, but very very pricey. Great for a special night out, celebrating a special event or business dinner.
With Ken, our waiter, providing the service, and Chris Patrick in the kitchen, the celebratory evening was superb. Started with the signature shooters and a cocktail. Being less ravenous tonight we shared a Caesar salad and succulent venison over greens and celeriac. The Pomerol wine from SaintAnne was a delightful fragrant Bordeaux accompanying the coffee basted venison. Not to be missed, we enjoyed a blood orange ice and Thai Tea ice cream
This restaurant is nothing of what it used to be. Gone are the days of chic/elegant ambiance and clientele. Now the highland park old farts in their kakis bring their entitled smu grandkids and let them drink underage. Nothing inventive on the menu and certainly nothing of interest on the wine list. This place is really on good for a fairly well made cocktail at the bar before or after having dined somewhere worth-while.
It was an incredible evening. We went to celebrate a Birthday and the evening started from the moment we stepped in the front door. The environment is warm and inviting and made for a very comfortable dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and extremely personable and the entire evening was a great conversation about the food and drinks and the wine. I had not been back to Abacus since the late 90's and I'm so happy to say that it is still as incredible as it was then. Bravo!
Food was a palet sensory experience to be shared with others. Ambiance was good, service excellent, a little loud (couldn't hear dinner music) mushroom soup and lobster shooters were exceptional. Sashimi with pineapple was excellent, rolls lacked balance (jalepeno a little overpowering, basil in lobster roll was excellent but lobster was lost a bit in flavor) , overall experience was excellent!!! Coming back and saving room for desert!! The breads filled us up too fast but were divine, couldn't stop eating! Next time will take bites and a Togo box!*would like to buy the breads for dinner parties 👍
All my expectations were met and exceeded.
- Greeted immediately and offered beverages while preparing to be seated
- Upon being seated, immediately greeted by the service staff.
- Impeccable timing on meal service, plate & flatware changes, drinks replenished at the right time, etc.
- Menu options were well explained.
- We cook very well at home and our family is often disappointed when going out. Not at all tonight:
- - Appetizers were exceptional. 3 types cured bacon, lobster shooters and porcini mushroom soup. Nice quantity on everything. Soup was actually larger that I expected and exceptional. 6 shooter. Just right.
- - Entrees were a complete hit - Duck Breast, Lamb Loin, Scottish Salmon and Jalapeno Sushi Roll. Plates were the perfect amount of protein with the complements on the plates. Sauces were just the right balance for each dish. Wouldn't have thought of a Pipian sauce with duck - but the perfect combo.
- - Dessert was very good. My only non 4 star item. All very good flavors but not something to write home about. The brown butter peach cake - cake was a touch too dense but flavorful, Bloody Chocolate - chocolate ganache was just a ganache of nice chocolate, the sides of blood orange segments and sorbet were nice though the ganache needed something more to stand up to these flavors. Our kids said the ice creams were the best they have tasted.
A must visit restaurant and worth every dollar.
Overall the experience was fantastic. The food, service, and ambiance were all great. The only disappointment was that there was no acknowledgment of the birthday we were there to celebrate....after noting this on the reservation and confirming with the hostess the previous day.
