About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Great for creative cocktails
Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

Hopping the whole time with a hip multiethnic crowd all loving the delicious food. I recommend ordering a la carte in lieu of the tasting menu, which they push aggressively. Choose your own adventure and enjoy the creative and beautiful foods. Save room for dessert, which we never would’ve ordered if we had been doing a la carte, but it was wonderful and worth every calorie!

Everything about our dinner at Abaca was enjoyable. The food plating and the food itself were excellent. For what we had for dinner, pre-fixe which is like their tasting menu was good value for the money. The servers were also very attentive

delicious food and a really great experience. It was our first time here and I would suggest doing the "PAUBAYA" Family Style Dinner. This was the perfect experience to try most of the menu! Our favorites were: the asparagus, bone broth, sisig rice, adobo skewers, lumpia and blue tuna and watermelon! Sauces complimented and enhanced the complexities of the dishes. I will definitely come here for a special occasion or date night!

The restaurant itself is really nice, but felt casual enough in the day time to bring our kids. I can imagine dinner time is a bit more of a mood. They make special occasions extra special here and give you a signed card from all of the staff for your birthday, along with a mini birthday dessert and a candle! We started off with our drinks which definitely started us off at 5 stars. The ube colada was pretty but also tasted amazing, with that crunchy ice too! The caramel corn tea was the winner though with the salted cheese foam and the actual caramel corn on top. It made me want to try every single drink on that menu! The rest of our meal lived up to the 5 star start too. Ube Milk Bun: So pretty, but also tasted very fresh! The kids loved this one. It was a nice dessert-like item to end our savory meal Pork Lumpia: I liked the pineapple chili sauce on the side. It was a nice twist on the typical sweet chili dipping sauce. Lumpia was cooked perfectly crispy. Chicken Tocino Silog: This chicken was so tender! My ONLY complaint from this meal, if I had to really nitpick, was that I wish there was more of the vinegar on the side…and I probably could have asked for more too but I was just too busy enjoying the food! The chicharron on top was a nice addition for visuals but also texture, and the eggs were perfectly runny. Wagyu Steak Silog: This was the winning dish for us. Love that it was cooked in toyomansi! The green onion and pickled onions really brought the dish together in a perfect way. The meat was so tender and the actual size of the steak was generous! The price tag does reflect that portion size but the quality is also there too, making it a very memorable dish. Service and ambiance were amazing. Will definitely be recommending this place to everybody! I hope we can come back so I can try their sisig since that was not available on the breakfast menu.

We came here for Saturday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the chicken tocino silog and the Ensaymada (mango and passionfruit). I highly recommend. Metered parking was relatively easy for Saturday at 10am.

Abaca is one of our favorite restaurants in SF.. food is so interesting and delicious. Last night we had a slight issue with wait for food and the temperature when it was served.. every restaurant has a blip every once in awhile. It will not make us hesitate for an instant before coming back. Love this place...
